"Penny is definitely more than just a missing teenager, more than just a missing person, she is our daughter,” Mishael said. "We love her, we miss her. We are hopeful that they will find something, but we are not confident that they will because it's been so long."
During the search, officials looked through acres of covered wooded areas and used search dogs and drones.
"The effort is all-inclusive, it's an effort to find anything, any kind of evidence,” Kent County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jason Kelley said. "Any kind of evidence to locate her."
Her mother said it's not the first time she's left home, but it's the first time she's been missing for this long. Wherever she may be, her mother shares this message for her daughter:
"Love you, Penny, we want you to reach out, we just need to hear something from you, even if it is that you're staying hidden,” Mishael said. "We love you and we just need you to reach out."
"It's something you just wouldn't even want to happen to your worst enemy, it's a nightmare,” said her mother Mishael Wise.
