A court order has linked attorney Erik Chappell and one of his clients to an act of violence, documenting a connection between the car bombing victim and those who may have wanted to harm him, hinting at the direction law enforcement is moving as it investigates.
A divorce case has been sealed by Monroe County Circuit Judge Michael A. Weipert at the request of the estranged wife, who is Mr. Chappell’s client. Her husband is being investigated by federal and local authorities in the Sept. 20 car bombing on E. Elm Ave. that injured Mr. Chappell and his two sons.
The Evening News has reported that sources have said at least two people are being considered suspects in the case. On the same day of the bombing, Mr. Chappell was in court to seek an increase in his client’s child support payments. Nine hours later the bomb detonated as Mr. Chappell was driving his sons to football practice.
Monroe police Chief Tom Moore said Wednesday that nothing new has developed in the case that can be made public. He said investigators are awaiting evidence analysis results.
