FOX 2 (WJBK) - Lansing police have issued an AMBER Alert for 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith who is missing from Lansing.

Police believe she may be with Rashad Maleek Trice, 28, who is traveling in a white 2013 Chevrolet Impala. The license plate is: EJR6098.

They were last seen on July 2nd around 11:30 p.m. on the south side of Lansing, according to investigators who call this an urgent situation.

She is described as a Black female with braided shoulder-length hair, last seen wearing a white T-shirt with rainbows.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – A search is on for a man Lansing police say, kidnapped a 2-year-old girl and tried to kill her mother.

6 News spoke with the authorities who say the suspect, 26-year-old Rashad Trice left with 2-year-old Winter Smith in a 2013 white Chevrolet Impala on the south side of Lansing with the license plate number E-J-R-6-0-9-8.

Authorities say they were initially called out for a report of a potential stabbing and upon arrival, located a female victim and a child – who told them they escaped. The victim is now at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say Trice is the ex-boyfriend of the victim, although authorities say he is not the biological father of the kidnapped girl.

The pair were were last seen together on Sunday about 11:30 p.m. (ET) on the south side of Lansing in a 2013 white Chevrolet Impala with the license plate DZS0492.

At 5:50 a.m. (ET) police said Trice was found in St. Clair Shores, about 100 miles southeast of Lansing, just north of Detroit, but the child was still missing.

Police said they arrested Trice, but did not release what charges he faces.

Update as of 11 a.m. Monday: The Federal Bureau of Investigation Detroit office is now assisting the Lansing Police Department to locate missing 2-year-old Wynter Smith. The FBI directed information on her whereabouts to its tip line 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Lansing police are seeking the public’s help in the search for a 2-year-old girl who they believe was kidnapped by a man late Sunday.

The suspect, 26-year-old Rashad Maleek Trice, was arrested around 5:50 a.m. Monday in St. Clair Shores and remains in police custody, according to Lansing Police Department officials in a Monday statement. He was wanted for the kidnapping of 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith in Lansing.

“This is a very urgent situation,” the police wrote in the Monday statement. “2-year-old Wynter Smith is still missing. Please keep your eyes open.”

St. Clair Shores police said they saw the Impala around 4:45 a.m. Monday in the area of 9 Mile Road and Harper Avenue.

When an officer tried to stop the Impala, the driver sped off, according to authorities. The driver crashed into another St. Clair Shores patrol car in the area of Little Mack Avenue and 10 Mile Road, police said.

One officer from inside the car was treated for injuries and discharged.

Police said the driver actively resisted arrest while being taken into custody at the crash scene. He was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash, according to officials.

I'm so afraid for this baby. None of the signs are good. RMT is obviously violent and desperate. He tried to kill her mother, crashed into a patrol car & tried to resist arrest. If he left the baby in a safe place it would be to his advantage to say where she is, but he's not talking. I hope it is not as it seems.

It is about an hour and a half by car from Lansing to St Clair Shores where Trice was arrested. He was last seen with Wynter about 11:30 and was arrested a little before 6:00 am. That gives him about four hours that are unaccounted for.
Let’s pray he dropped her safely with a relative/friend/acquaintance before he was spotted by LE.
Hopefully his cellphone or vehicle can give them something to go on.

Thanks for the map. Media reports indicate that RMT has ties to Detroit. RMT was close to the city early this morning. I hope Trice took the child to the home of someone he knows who will not hurt the child.

So many people are hoping for the best possible outcome for the little girl, especially her grandmother, who is a resident of Detroit.

Sharen Eddings is hoping wherever her granddaughter is, she’s with her in spirit.

“I feel like I’m there with her,” said Eddings.

“We would like to hear more from his (Trice’s) parents,” Eddings said. “We don’t know if they’re up there. He’s not talking to the FBI. He refused to talk.”

Before Smith’s kidnapping, it’s alleged that Trice even stabbed the mother of the 2-year-old.

“When he stabbed her, from what I understand from her sister, she was able to stab him back right, wound him back,” Eddings said. “That’s when he grabbed Wynter and threatened to harm her, and that’s when he left.”

AMBER Alert search for Wynter Smith update: Lansing PD say rumors of her being found not true

The Lansing PD Twitter account posted a message saying that by going door-to-door, officers encountered numerous reports of misinformation that had been circulating that the girl had been recovered - which it said it not true.

"As our officers have been going from door to door and we’ve been talking to the community, we’ve been hearing from a lot of people who thought that 2-year-old Wynter Smith has been found. Unfortunately, that is not true," The account tweeted. "We are actively looking for Wynter. Please do not spread misinformation and rely on the Lansing Police Department page or any information directly from the FBI. We promise as soon as there is news, we will let you know."

According to information from St. Clair Shores police, they arrested Trice after he was involved in a chase reaching speeds of 100 mph before colliding with a police cruiser. It started around 5:40 a.m. and lasted around 15 minutes.

The crash sent the suspect to the hospital for injuries while an officer was listed in temporary serious condition. Eastpointe police are also involved in the investigation.
