My point was that I think it was another poster who put the "JD" there--I don't think she really has one.

From DePaul University:

Jeanene Barrett is the Mitigation Specialist for the CJCC. Jeanene joined the CJCC in March, 2008 after having worked within the child welfare field for over eleven years. She is also a Criminal Justice adjunct faculty member at Westwood College. Jeanene received her M.A. in Social Work from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, M.S. degree in Human Services Administration from Spertus College, and a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

If you google you come up with two or three women that could fit the JB we're trying to identify.

I came up with the one who has J.D. with her name because of the presentation she made back in 1998.
As I mentioned above, I could be wrong but she would fit the role.

How do we arrive at a positive identity? Plus it was mentioned the person resides in MI. It was at the hearing where out-of-state costs were being
discussed and Baez was saying how important this person is to the case - justifying the costs of an out-of-state player.

Wasn't she on the jail visitor's list?

I don't know - haven't looked at that for a long time. Does it show a title along with the name? At least the first name may be spelled correctly on the list. I've seen Jeanne, Jeanene, Jean, etc.

She has visited Casey several times according to the visitor logs.
She is also poking around in Ohio and chasing down Casey's old school teachers. I think JB said she has put in several hundred hours of work.
There is some chatter that she was at the defense table yesterday and that she is the one Casey was hugging. Now, if someone could find her picture, we could compare it to who ever was being hugged.
JB did state that she and Casey had become "close".

Well, the one I provided the bio for works for Andrea Lyon's clinic at DePaul, so I'm pretty sure she's the right one. ;)

Thanks for setting me straight.

If I'm looking at the credentials of the right 'Jean Barrett' (not 100 percent sure yet as two or three can be found on the Internet) her degree is Juris Doctor or J.D. for short. Sorry for calling her 'Lawyer'.

Juris Doctor = Doctor of Law, a professional doctorate that usually takes three years to acquire. The scientific study of law. A research dissertation is not required. Not meant to prepare one to practice law. Degree is earned for philosophical or scholarly purposes. Teaching law as a science and a practical skill.

If I'm looking at the right person, as I mentioned before, in 1998 she presented to the American Academy of Psychology and Law (AAPL), along with two other people, the Role of the Forensic Psychologist in Death Penalty Mitigation.

Why has this person been kept secret? Earlier in the thread, someone referred to her by first name only. I first heard heard the name last week when Baez mentioned it during a hearing.

No, a JD is a law degree. That's what I have. :) And I know we've discussed her before, I think in connection with the jail logs as mentioned by LambChop.

ETA: And to keep things clear, she does not have a JD.

I bumped the thread where Tricia (post 32, December 23, 2009) posted the Visitor's list. Thread 'List Attorney/Client Visits ...'

Based on the list, JB began visiting KC on June 19, 2009 and her last visit in 2009 was December 12. She visited KC for approximately 41 hours in 2009.

Therefore, the Jean I found must not be the Jeanene involved in this case.

I found the other threads about the mitigation process and I bumped them. Much of the discussion took place during December 2009 (holidays).

Somehow I missed it or wasn't that interested at the time as I can only absorb so much at one time.

I never found how we know which Jeanene she is though. Someone linked her to DePaul so I guess they're using common sense figuring she's connected to A. Lyon. Is that correct?

I guess we'll have to find the 2010 visitor's log.
In 2009, I added up 41 hrs. if her first visit was in June 2009.

Gee, how hard would it be for JB to know her hours? Of course, she probably works on the case outside of when she's physically with KC.

I swear, I saw where someone said she resides in Michigan.

The bio I posted for her was from the website for the death penalty clinic at DePaul, which is run by A. Lyon and Mort Smith (the "out of state investigator").

I was looking for a place to post what is really bugging me. The DP Hearing thread has been closed.

Yesterday AL referred to a book entitled The Stranger. Someone on the DP hearing thread typed out her statement which said something to the affect that the character in the book was blamed for killing someone although he was innocent. He was blamed because he didn't "act right" in response to his mother's death. Therefore, he was accused of killing a man he saw on the beach for no reason.

I recalled this book from years ago so I looked up a synopsis of the book. As I remembered, the character did kill the person but didn't know why he did because he lived according to his senses, in the present moment and lacked empathy. He accepted his fate and concludes life has no meaning other than to fulfill one's immediate senses.

It is bothering me a lot that AL would use the character in the book and rewrite his story. He gets executed (which he accepts) and his last wish is that a hugh crowd gather to see him put to death. :waitasec:

I don't understand AL using this character to make a point about KC. At least reference works that make sense. :waitasec:

Here's the 2010 visitation log as of Apr. 30th. JBarrett visited 3 more times for about 6.5 hours. I would agree that she spends most of her time on the case outside of visiting with KC, so really hard to determine how much time just from the visits.

 Thank-you for providing this synopsis. I read this book more than 20 years ago, in college, IN FRENCH, and it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
Actually it is fitting that the character is a sociopath without empathy, just like Casey, just strange that AL would reference it...

She probably is paid travel time and researching. But just because Baez says she has put in hundreds of hours does not necessarily make it true.

Oh I wrote the wrong names. This happens a lot when I am using my iPad now.

Thanks for seeing that boo boo of mine. fixed it.

Must you boast :bow::bow: that you have an IPad? I am unhinged with jealousy!!!!

Sorry about that; this little ipad is packed with goodies . I absolutely love, love, love it. I just need to adjust to typing on the dang thing and not having a mouse. No more do I need to take my MBP out with me now. It fits right into my handbag and the 3G is great, so far.

I noticed at the hearing that JB was using one. Hummmmm, didn't appear that he was using it for the hearing. Oh well. Must be nice to know that Caylee paid for it. :furious:

Lines 1, 2, and 3 - just stop! Y'hear? I'm dying for one and can't find one in Canada yet...

Is that what he was actually using? Must have some of Casey's cash stashed somewhere - weren't those just released in the last month or so?
