Many times in cases like this the child becomes an object and all empathy is lost. Mindset, if I can't have the child, no one can. The results are truly tragic.

Living in MN, I read about this case when it happened. IMO the officers who actually drove her home were so negligent to not have held her at the scene. A window shot out, and blood on her hand, and she is allowed to leave? How is that acceptable? Now, about her being given custody, I have always said to my spouse that courts in MN really don't give a rat's hind end about children in this state. Abusers of children have often been given very light sentences. In fact, even adults are given light sentences. I personally knew a woman whose cheating husband (with whom I worked) murdered her, his sentence was 16 years and he served 12. Charged and convicted of 2nd degree when obviously he should have been charged with first degree. I don't know if prosecutors are lazy or what, but it's disgraceful. All MOO.

When Thaler entered the courtroom, she stared at Hart's family for a long period of time as the proceedings began.

Eli's father Tory Hart will be present when the trial begins, but for jury selection a few members of his family are here in his stead.

The prosecution will tell the jury about the custody battle, which they believe was Thaler's motive for killing Eli.

Eli Hart case -- Jury selection will begin later today in the 1st Degree Murder trial for Julissa Thaler. This morning she had an unusual request, to be excused from the courtroom when graphic photos are shown. Judge Jay Quam denied.

Trial of Julissa Thaler, mother accused of killing son, is underway
SBM
Jury selection is expected to get underway Monday in the trial of a Mound woman accused of killing her young son last May.

During pre-trial motions Monday, Thaler's legal team requested that she be allowed to leave the courtroom when graphic photos are being shown. Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Dan Allard said in court that the crime scene photos are the worst he's ever seen, and told Judge Jay Quam the prosecution will be careful about only showing jurors what is necessary. Allard also said prosecutors will not show Eli's autopsy photos in court.
Judge Quam ruled against Thaler's motion.
Allard also informed the court that he plans on introducing internet search evidence he believes will prove premeditation, along with an insurance policy Thaler purchased on her son.

Wish they would list "what" all these motions were...

Feb. 1, 2023
[Minneapolis, MN) — Seven jurors have been selected for the trial of Julissa Thaler, who is accused of killing her six-year-old son. Thaler is facing life in prison. Jury selection resumes today, with opening statements tentatively set to start as soon as Friday.

I believe that is a False headline - jurors seated - but as far as I can tell - only 7 have been chosen & can find nothing for what happened yesterday, just selection resumes.
Anyone come up with an article on yesterday, 2/1 jury selection?

TIA!
