It is probably for the best, considering how severely injured he had to have been. He probably would have been in a very bad way, and it would have been a very painful, difficult existence, poor sweet boy.

Yeah, i’m sure u are right. He suffered such major trauma throughout his whole body. I’m so sorry this happened to u Landon.

If he had had a history of violence why wasn't he in a mental institution?

They no longer institutionalize people just because they are mentally ill. They can’t be locked up against their will until a crime like this is committed. It is unlikely that he will end up in general population in a regular prison. Some say that Jimmy Carter is to blame for mentally ill people roaming the streets, but the truth is, what was happening to mentally ill people in these institutions was a crime in itself. I don’t know what the answer is, but I hope that some day, a smarter person than me will figure out how to protect the rest of us from violent people with mental illness, while they protect other mentally ill non violent people from harm. How terrible for this little boy’s family.

This was posted an hour ago - "The recent update from the Bloomington PD was accurate, he is in stable condition, contrary to the rumors and attention seekers out there stating that he has passed . We will update as the family wishes, but please refrain from posting any private information until the family is ready."

Update 37 min ago. Could the murder charge be a legality due to victim age?
No. Murder and attempted murder are two different crimes. The victim's age has nothing to do with it.

As someone else previously posted, the Hennepin County Jail booking records now shows the charge as attempted murder. Link: Hennepin County > Sheriff's Jail Roster

Like I said, I don’t have any idea what’s up with this guy mentally. I assume he’s sane, knows right from wrong, committed this crime because he wanted to, and should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Lock him up.
Snipped for brevity

Agreed, he may be completely sane, and just decided that day to be evil.
The mall has had trouble with him before !
To the point of banning him.
I wonder if his relatives had had issues with him as well ?

What is frightening is if he has a short sentence for whatever reason, and then is free to commit another crime.

If this boy lives, he (the perp) may not have a long sentence. As opposed to if he dies.
Sad that it has to be that way--- as I cannot imagine this child not having severe trauma with lasting disabilities , from the fall.
So in a sense, this man may have at the very least--robbed him of a healthy life.

Hoping posters who read that he passed are wrong, and that this child could still have a life.

Praying that the boy is on the right side of these statistics, lives and makes a full recovery. Children can be amazingly resilient and heal faster than adults.

“The median lethal distance for falls is four stories or 48 feet, according to the reference book Trauma Anesthesia. This means that 50% of patients who fall four stories will die. The chance of death increases to 90% when the fall is seven stories, the book said.”

Wellwishers have donated more than $300,000 to the family of a five-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries when he was thrown off a third-floor balcony in the Mall of America by a stranger.

The boy, Landen Hoffmann of Woodbury, Minnesota, was tossed from the balcony on Friday and police have arrested the man they believe is responsible.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, has been identified as the suspect accused of tossing a 5-year-old boy from the third floor at Mall of America in Minnesota on Friday.

He has been charged with attempted homicide.

He was taken into custody in the transit station at the Mall of America and is being held at the Bloomington Police Department, according to a press release.

Aranda is from the Minneapolis metro area, police said.

Police responded to the scene just after 10 a.m. where they gave the child CPR until emergency services arrived.

Minneapolis resident Brian Johnson was at the mall when it happened. He told the Daily News he didn’t see the child fall, but walked up shortly after to see the him lying “motionless” in a “pool of blood.”
I saw this on BBC earlier. Absolutely disgusting!
