Court officials are looking for 17 people to sit on the case — 12 jurors and five alternates.

20 potential jurors were chosen from Monday’s panel, and 10 were questioned further on Tuesday.

Both teams of attorneys have the ability to strike out a juror, immediately removing them from the case. The defense team has already utilized one of its strikes.

As of Tuesday, there are three jurors slated on this trail, all being women.

Where does the line stand regarding no prior knowledge. I don't know how media coverage works in the USA, but in Aus this type of case would have made headlines across the country, soost people would of heard about it
It’s surprising how many people are walking around without any knowledge on these types of things.

As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, ten jurors have been questioned, with seven having been excused. Three jurors have been officially selected for the trial. ...

During the selection process the defense started with 15 strikes, meaning they can remove a juror. The state started with nine strikes. Fravel’s defense has used two strikes. If the judge decides to remove the juror, neither side needs to use a strike.

As of Wednesday evening, the jury consists of five people: a retail sales representative, a paralegal, a retired store owner, a physician’s assistant, and a mother.

Fravel’s defense team has meticulously vetted through each potential juror, on average questioning jurors twice as long as the state.

Long jury selection interviews are slowing down the trial's pace and pushing back the date for opening statements.

The judge said opening statements is expected to take place on October 16th. Originally, the speeches were suppose to happen on October 14th.

During Thursday’s jury selection, a shocking event occurred — one that a court official says in all of his 20 years, he has never seen happen before.

A juror who never showed up on Wednesday was picked up by law enforcement Thursday morning and forced into the courthouse.

After screaming and causing a scene in the parking lot, he walked into the courtroom barefoot and in a tank top and basketball shorts, making it very clear he had no interest in serving his civic duty.

He was then excused.

Judge Nancy Buytendorp dismissed the juror as being unfit to serve on a jury.

Three other jurors were dismissed from the panel on Thursday morning.

As of today, opening arguments are expected to begin next Wednesday.

Judge Nancy should have thrown that unfit juror in jail for a few days for contempt of court for not showing up when ordered.

Though Friday saw the most jurors sat in a single day, the process has been anything but quick. It was supposed to be the final day of jury selection, but now, that process is being extended into next week.

As things stand heading into the weekend, 11 jurors have been sat with four being added on Friday. The panel remains female-dominated with six women compared to five men.

Strikes used:
  • The Defense has used 10 out of 15
  • The State has used 3 out of 9

Thanks Pommy, has Fravel been in the courtroom during jury selection?
I seem to recall an article that said he was wearing a suit, but I can't find it. I could be getting my cases mixed up. I did find this from Tuesday, though:

Fravel could be seen taking notes. The defense attorneys were also seen asking Fravel if he had any questions during jury selection.

Full jury seated in trial of Adam Fravel

Opening statements from attorneys are expected to start Thursday morning.

A history of domestic violence was painted to the jury, as Propokowicz walked through several instances that friends or family saw abuse happening by Fravel to Kingsbury. One of these dates back to 2021, when Kingsbury was watching coverage on the Gabby Petito case. Propokowicz said that “Fravel put his hands around her neck, pushed her down and threatened she would end up like Petito if she did not learn to mind.”

After 45 minutes, Propokowicz wrapped up his opening statement.

On the other side, Fravel’s lead attorney, Bauer, told the courtroom it, “all comes down to a case of tunnel vision,
revisionist history and secret truths.”

Bauer argued that 24 hours after Kingsbury was reported missing on March 31, 2023, law enforcement zeroed in on Fravel and Fravel alone. Bauer stated that from April 1 until Kingsbury’s body was discovered on June 7 of that same year, Fravel was under constant surveillance. He claimed that law enforcement ignored evidence and despite several search warrants on Fravel’s person, property, electronics, vehicles and even his garbage, no direct evidence was found.

Witnesses on Thursday included Winona police officers, who recalled the early moments after Kingsbury was reported missing. Jurors were also shown body camera footage of officers' first interactions with Fravel.

In the video shown to jurors, Fravel explains his travel on March 31st, driving towards his parents' home to move belongings there, but then turning around and coming back to Winona when he claimed to realize he meant to put these things into a storage locker instead.

Police tracked his movements on traffic cameras. They told him flat out in the video that his timeline did not make sense.

Propokowicz told the jury that same bed sheet matches the missing sheet inside Fravel and Kingsbury’s shared home and that the duct tape is consistent with a similar roll found inside as well. Kingsbury’s cause of death was ruled to be asphyxiation and a bath towel was found wrapped in a slip know around her neck. The prosecution says a photo on Kingsbury’s phone of her children bathing in a bathroom shows the same bath towel hanging on a towel rack.

Prokopowicz revealed that Kingsbury met another man on a dating app, which prompted her to end her relationship with Fravel, KARE-TV reported. He added that Kingsbury took steps to terminate her lease where she lived with Fravel, and that she had found a townhouse where she and the children were to move.

State prosecutor Phillip Prokopowicz highlighted an incident in 2020 when a friend witnessed Fravel hit Kingsbury over FaceTime. Later, while watching a documentary about Gabby Petito, Prokopowicz said Fravel put his hands around Kingsbury’s neck, saying, “You don’t want to end up like Petito.”

Fravel’s defense team fired back, saying their relationship had normal ups and downs. Defense attorney Zachary Bauer argued Fravel knew and agreed to separate with Kingsbury after learning about her new relationship. Bauer told the jury that the Petito incident “was a horrible joke that he immediately regretted.”

Also testifying was Winona Police Investigator Anita Sobotta.

During the interview, she said she noticed scratches on Fravel's face around an eye, the nose, and his Adam's apple.

They zeroed in on Fravel, because he was the last person to see Maddie alive and his story/timeline didn’t make any sense. No direct evidence was found because he ripped the cameras down at their home.

I look forward to hearing what the ignored evidence is.

In a case filled with so much darkness, with the heavy weight of what has happened to Madi and consequently all those who loved her … I find some light in the snippet above.
I hate that she had to do it, but she fought like hell and left her mark on him to tell a small but important part of the story.

I completely agree with you. God Bless her!
