Since I am scared s---less to be stopped by LE (yep, it doesn't fit the tag line being sold, I'm sure)....I go one step further. One step further.
What is that you (in general) might ask?
The answer is simple: I actually DRIVE my vehicle in a way that reduces my chances of being pulled over.
I don't change lanes frequently but when I do, I use my blinker well in advance. I make sure I stay within the speed limits. I try to prevent sudden stops or starts. I don't play my music loudly. I don't engage in road rage or emotional driving. I make sure signal & brake lights are working properly. I don't text & drive. I do anticipate what other drivers may do. I'm about as boring a driver as you can be! Boring equates to safe for me.

So that being said, here's one personal example: I was pulled over for singing to the radio cause the officer thought I could've been on my cellphone ($200 fine in the State). I quickly pulled over to the side with window down, radio off, hands on steering wheel when approached. The officer asked to see my cellphone. I asked the officer would he allow me to retrieve it from my purse (because I would never take my hands off the wheel without asking LE first). Once agreed, The officer scrolled & reviewed my cellphone & was able to ascertain I hadn't used it in a while.
I thanked the officer & went on my way.
Would everyone have done it the same way as me? I don't know but I know never to give LE any lip. Nope...not this lady.

I have never considered myself as a criminal nor have I ever thought about having to be careful with LE until Sandra Bland. That was an eye opener.

There is no way you can protect from a stop. Your lights may stop working while you are driving. You may resemble a robbery suspect unbeknownst to you.

It is a sad world where we have gone from Andy Griffith and LE is your best friend to making strategies for making it so you don't get blown away by LE.

Amen. It's also sad that because someone has rarely if ever been stopped, or never had any issues when they were stopped, that they can deny there's a problem with anyone else or in other areas.

True, human. My point was to let everyone know that I do not consider myself privileged at all when it comes to police interaction (look at my avatar & you get the picture). I'm just as scared as the next human being. I'm intelligent enough to know that I must anticipate the worse case scenario when interacting & be cooperative, compliant, respectful, and extremely cautious. I know that whenever I'm pulled over, I'm in a serious situation that if handled incorrectly could have dreadful consequences. I know this.

Maybe some would think that is not how my modus operandi would have to be based on the segment of the population I fall into. But believe me, it is.

That is the point I'm trying to make.

Moo

This is such sound advice. I am also scared of being pulled over, not because I think it might it might be a rouge cop stopping me, but because I know that law enforcement has more threats to their lives right now than any other time that I can recall in my lifetime. I respect what our law enforcement is going through and know they are human on heightened alert. There is no way with tensions as high as they are that I will not do everything in my power to make sure the stop is safe. IMO anyone doing anything less has no respect for their own life. Any ticket given gives a person the right to fight it in court not on the street.

All moo & all that: My personal experiences spanning 30+ years of driving and any and all interactions with LE have never been "friendly" -- no sir. They have been curt, serious, non-negotiable, tense. There was never a "hello" from them or "have a nice day" at the end.
They were doing their job and "customer service" was not their primary agenda. Sometimes I received a ticket; sometimes I didn't.

But I never once complained or acted antagonistic; that would've been foolhardy on my part. I behaved cautiously and non-confrontational at all times during the many interactions I've had (ex singing in my car; a stalker writing death threats for 13 yrs, pocketbook snatching, assault on airplane, burglary of my apt., doing 39mph in a 35mph zone, seat belt not properly between my breasts, etc)

If you thought I was talking about you, I wasn't. I've been reading a lot of comments in social media, so my last post had to do with those comments.

Oh no, I didn't think that at all, Cannonball.

I'm just throwing my experiences out there in the hopes that some wouldn't assume that certain segments have it different. That hasn't been my experience at all.
There have been numerous times that I've felt the officer's demeanor was so tense & harsh for the minor situation at hand that I was afraid to blink. Seriously. I knew innately they had to have a highly difficult job to be that way. I would never want their job; I could never do it for many reasons.
So I've learned to be extraordinarily cautious around officers in general.

I respect the job they do; I am compliant & take precautions as to prevent (within my power) from having interactions.

While respecting the job they do, we shouldn't allow them to trample upon our rights. They work for us, not vice versa. They are public servants and should act accordingly.

There is a saying: "those who would give up Liberty for temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Let's hold our authorities and institutions accountable, just as our forefathers did in founding our great country.

How do you treat an employee? I think that's a relevant question if one wants to bring up the fact that LE works for them.

Just my experience this past year with my son and the police. He is a teenager who has been stopped three times for various things. Nothing ever came abut, no citations, just a have a good day and a verbal warning. A few months ago, he was stopped and happened to have a black friend in the car. The boys were made to get out, questioned as to where they were going, where they had been, and how did they know each other. The stop was for not signaling before changing lanes. My son called me and I met them there. The cop basically said they had a lot of kids selling marijuana to the local HS kids, and we're trying to find out where it was coming from. We live in an affluent suburb of Charlotte, and I'm convinced that had it been another white boy, this wouldn't have even been a traffic stop, let alone everything that followed. IMO, it was racial profiling because why would a kid in a new Audi be riding with a black kid? Sarcasm. The boy with my son is a local ex NFL player's son, who is in the top 5% of his class, and a great kid.

I have been lucky enough to have friends and acquaintances of many different races? ( not sure about races as we all come from the same source). Black, Native, Hmong, Vietnamese, Mexican, Iranian, what else? Cannot remember.

Anyway, I have been with them and experienced the most amazing of things that as a white woman do not happen to me.

I was not with my friend who is black when he was walking the streets of Monterey CA , and he was beaten by some random white guy. My Native friends have a res sticker on the bumper of their car which entitles them stops for driving while Native.

My friend who is Hmong gets an extra check at the airport because he appears to be perhaps a person from a Muslim country.

Shopping at a store gets a POC a store clerk monitoring what one is up to.

When I am with a group that is all POC except for me,100% of the time, I am treated as if I am the person of authority ,such as the director of the group . Actually the POC are the leaders, I am simply needed for one skill that I have which is necessary but very minor.

For fun, go out with your friends that are POC and tell them that you are going to be observing to see what goes on.

The last two, (2) 4th of July's I went to a Mexican's ranch were he has friends, (Mexicans come in from 100 or so miles away. they ride their horses down main street and end up at his ranch. I make 3 lbs of shrimp ceviche.and take. I am one of the few gringo's and gringa's invited. They love me as I love them, but I think it's my ceviche :)

This thread is closed for review. Last time I checked the thread was about the shooting of Philando Castile. :stop: personally attacking. :stop: the bickering. :stop: the snark.

The thread is now open for posting.

ADMIN NOTE: Discuss the case. Opine on the case, not one another. Keep it civil and scroll and roll when necessary.

Peaceful protests turned into rioting; 21 officers injured, 102 people arrested

Philando Castile was stopped 52 times by police

:blue:

1. I know people who were at the march in the Cities. They said white anarchists were doing the firecrackers, throwing bottles. I can only report what they said. Maybe there will be some more revelation on that.

2. neing stopped all those times indicate that he must be on a list. I know in the city where I,lived in MN, police had a puke list. They would stop people who were no threat and probably had a violation they could write a ticket for. This was told to me by an LE. I was discussing this with an LE at a social situation . I was appalled. Clever though. Safe stops, that generate cash

2. being stopped all those times indicate

or indicate he has no respect for the law, I am not going to play a numbers game but were there not at least twenty convictions for driving on a revoked license?

He was stopped 52 times, and I've been stopped maybe 4 (all for speeding or rolling through a stop sign, deserved every stop). 52 times. For what? What did he do FIFTY TWO TIMES to get stopped over and over?

I already know the answer...
