Interview with LE.
Waeys, who is Somali, autistic, and non-verbal, wandered away from 1295 Lake Street NE on foot and citizens saw him going Eastbound. He has not been located.

LE is asking for people in the area from Hwy 169 down to Hwy 100 and Hwy 7 down to Excelsior Blvd to search their properties. They have had searchers in the water floating down to where the creek goes into the Meadowbrook Golf course area...also people walking through the water and on the banks.

If the search goes into tomorrow, they will ask for help with searching.

Police were searching for him in the area of Blake Road North and Second Street Northeast, authorities said. ...

People with surveillance cameras were asked to check for possible sightings and anyone with information was asked to call 911, police said.

Authorities requested people stay away from the search area as the boy is easily scared by crowds and loud noises. The child has autism, is nonverbal and is drawn to water, according to KMSP.

"We will be here as long as it takes to bring Waeys home," Hopkins Police Captain Craig Kreiling said during a news conference Sunday evening.

Kreiling said, since Waeys is drawn to water, a lot of the focus has been on nearby Minnehaha Creek.

"We have had many searchers in the water itself, floating from here all the way down to where the creek goes into the Meadowbrook Golf Course area," he said.

Volunteers are being encouraged to gather at the Hopkins Fire Department starting at 7 a.m. Monday to resume the search. Police officials are also encouraging residents in an area bounded by Highways 169 and 100, and Highway 7 and Excelsior Boulevard to check their property, as Waeys is said to be easily startled by noise and may hide or hunker down if he is scared.

A big focus for the search has been the Minnehaha Creek, which is close to where the boy was last seen. Police say the current is moving swiftly right now, which is a concern. Crews have searched the creek several times but haven’t found Waeys.

Police have also said that children with autism are drawn to water and like to hunker down and hide — meaning it’s very important for the public to do their part and search their property for the boy.

Police say the boy is drawn to water and is easily started by loud noises.

They are asking people in surrounding areas to look through surveillance videos. Additionally, police are asking people who live in the area from Highway 169 to Highway 100 and Highway 7 down to Excelsior Boulevard to check their property for the missing boy.
