There's just so little to go on that it's hard to find a starting point. I did read that there is a guy missing from the St. Clair area, which I believe is where her phone last pinged.
The contents of the note would be helpful, not necessarily word for word, but the general gist of it. Did she say she was taking off for awhile to gather her thoughts, etc., did the note indicate suicide, was it stating she was going to meet up with friends, etc.
As I seem to be seeing often in missing persons cases, the information that could be useful is being withheld. Details indicating state of mind do provide clues. The disappearance of a person who was busy wrapping Christmas presents and left a note saying, "Hey, I'm running out to buy more wrapping paper." is going to be sleuthed differently than one that is from a person who's been depressed and leaves a note saying, "I really need to get away for awhile to clear my head."
How are the local police looking at this? An abduction scenario? An adult who has decided to walk away for awhile? Someone they need to find quickly to ensure their welfare?
I'll be watching for more details to surface. While praying she is found safe and sound.

Amanda is still missing. I came to this site hoping to find more info on her case and from this thread I see a lot missing. I think mostly because she wasn't in the media, they didn't dig for information.
I talked to different people that either knew her or knew about the case that wasn't in the media. Remember that this isn't from law enforcement and could be false but I heard this from more than 3 different sources.
The Note: No one knows what the note said because her mother refused to show it to anyone, including the police.
Runaway: it was suspected that she just left but she left without any money, any known vehicle (so someone would have driven her somewhere, even if hitchhiking) and she left a beloved dog behind.
Boyfriend: she had a new relationship, one that she had been very excited about.
Mother: Everyone I've ever talked to has said that the mother never wanted to look for her.
While I can't prove anything from this information, I think it should at least be out there.
It doesn't seem like there is anyone still looking for Amanda. She's still missing.

I don't know if this news site is allowed here. They believe they've found her remains. May she rest in peace.

Human Remains Found In Cook Station

Quote from article:

"On December 15, 2014, Amanda Caudill was reported missing, along with a .270 rifle, a camouflage coat, Muck boots, and her cell phone. The items of clothing that have been recovered during the search from March 15-17, 2023 are consistent with those same items and a .270 rifle was also located. Further search of the clothing resulted in the discovery of a cell phone matching the description provided for Amanda’s cellular phone.

Additionally, a Missouri driver’s license belonging to Amanda Caudill was located within one of the pockets."

The remains were found Wednesday near Mound Ridge Road at Meramec Springs Park in Cook Station, located nearly two hours southwest of St. Louis.

Crawford County deputies spent the past several days searching around the area for evidence. After recovering several items, the sheriff’s office says findings “are consistent with an open missing persons case from Crawford County involving Amanda Caudill.”

The remains were found after hunter came across a few suspicious items of clothing Tuesday evening on private property. Crawford County investigators obtained a search warrant, and found skeletal remains, along with the clothing, the next day.

May she finally be at peace. I'm local to her case and I remember reading she left a suicide note . But here recently I was told that wasn't true. I'm beginning to think she did .

Chief Deputy Major Adam Carnal said in the post that items found at the scene were similar to those connected with the missing person case of Amanda Caudill.

Caudill's family reported her missing on December 15, 2014.

They said she had been wearing a camouflage coat and muck boots.

They also said she had her cell phone and a .270 rifle.

The clothing items found last week match the clothes her family said she was wearing, as does the cell phone.

Investigators also found a Missouri driver's license belonging to Amanda Caudill in one of the pockets.

The Crawford County Coroner's Office took custody of the remains, but it could take months for official identification.

Several items found along with human skeletal remains discovered last week in Crawford County appear to belong to Amanda Caudill, reported missing on Dec. 15, 2014.

Maj. Adam Carnal, chief deputy of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, stated in a press release that Caudill was reported missing, along with a .270 rifle, a camouflage coat, Muck boots, and her cell phone.

“The items of clothing that have been recovered during the search from March 15-17, 2023m are consistent with those same items and a .270 rifle was also located,” Carnal stated. “Further search of the clothing resulted in the discovery of a cell phone matching the description provided for Amanda’s cellular phone. Additionally, a Missouri driver’s license belonging to Amanda Caudill was located within one of the pockets.”

The Crawford County Coroner’s Office now has the remains for identification.

It may be several months before any confirmation of identity,” Carnal stated. “The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with members of the Caudill family advising them of the preliminary findings. The investigation is ongoing and when further information is developed it will be released.”

Carnal said the sheriff’s office is grateful to the Crawford County Coroner’s Office, Steelville Fire Protection District and the Rolla Rural Fire District for their assistance in the search and recovery.

Skeletal remains were found on private property March 16 on Mound Ridge Road in Crawford County by searchers that included members of the Rolla Rural Fire Department.

“At this time there has not been a positive identification of the remains,” Maj. Adam Carnal, chief deputy of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, wrote in a statement posted on the sheriff’s Facebook page. “We are in the early stages of this investigation and will provide additional information when available.”

In a statement issued last week, Carnal noted, “In the evening hours of March 14, 2023, it was reported to our office that suspicious clothing items were located on private property on Mound Ridge Rd., in Cook Station.”
The next morning, “investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for a property to retrieve items and evidence regarding the clothing items.”

It was then, at the beginning of the search that deputies and investigators found human skeletal remains along with the clothing that had been reported.

“Due to the remoteness, terrain, and scale of the area, the search was halted in the early evening. It was determined that in order to conduct a more thorough search the following day, additional assistance would be needed,” Carnal stated Friday. “Contact was made with Steelville Fire Department and the Rolla Rural Fire Department who offered their assistance.”

Her skeletal remains were found last year. I believe she was depressed and committed suicide. May she rest in peace.

I'm from the area. We figured this would be the eventual result, but it's still just sad. She was so well-loved and the entire county was very invested in finding her and bringing her home.
She made her intentions known and went out into the woods to commit suicide. She was bipolar, dealing with being gay in a rural bible belt area, and had some substance abuse issues, and her entire family was frequently in conflict.
The area her body was found is such thick dense woods that her family, police, and hunters walked right over her/near her for years and it wasn't until her bones got scattered onto the right property that she was noticed.
It's so desolate that much of it is only accessible by ATV- and some spots not even that. It's heartbreaking.
