Well let them join a bowling league for corns's sake.

Fit in and belong? This whole fiasco is not only alienating the individuals but is putting a huge schism between Ferguson and the rest of the country. These are NOT the actions of people who want to fit in and belong! That's the same kind of stuff put out there to "explain" gangs. There are tons of ways to fit in and belong and make a difference without spewing hatred, burning, looting, and terrorizing.

And frankly I'm quite sick and tired of the powers-that-be puffery going along with it. If some of these folks "in charge" were more concerned about justice and less concerned about image, elections, and sound bites, Ferguson would be back to normal by now.

I agree there are many other "healthy ways" to fit in. However this is a social problem. People who have grown up in and who are accustomed to normal and healthy ways don't often look outside the box. However how many of us have continued on even though we are fighting a losing battle? We can pretend to know their life, norms or customs but essentially we do not. How many of us on here grew up in a ghetto? ..... probably not many. There is a socio aspect to all of this and we can judge and criticise but until we have walked a mile in someone's shoes.... I am not excusing behaviours but I do totally understand there is always a reason for a behaviour(s).

The threats from protestors, screaming at the cops= "You'll never be safe, not you, not your family, never."

[ then they 'demand' that the cops must live in the community…]

That's the thing: they make personal threats against the officers and their families and then get all puffed up with moral outrage because the officers aren't wearing name tags that will help the social media justice warriors dox their home addresses. And it's all, "Why is Darren Wilson in hiding?" right along side "Shoot him in the head and put his body out on the sidewalk for us."

They keep saying this word 'peaceful' but I do not think it means what they think it means.

PS Neatly tucked away at bottom of article I just posted

Just yesterday, he met with a team from the Department of Justice on how to improve race relations in the city.

So Umar has marks on his body? From LE? Is he going to prove it or just run his freaking mouth? As we all know, if it isn't visible and documented then it didn't happen.

MOO

Due to protests, Ferguson carjacking goes uninvestigated for several hours

Witnesses say the suspects approached a 62-year-old woman and her 34-year-old son at the Walgreens on North Florissant around 9:00 p.m. Thursday night. They forced the victims to drive around for 30 minutes and, at one point, put a gun to the man’s head and threatened to kill him. The suspects then dropped the victims off in Spanish Lake, where a relative picked them up and took them home.

Read at link! And video has better view of protesters getting physical with police last night.

My town turned into a ghetto when I was 5/6. My parents bought a house in a developing neighboring town and things were great. So I guess I learned run from bad neighborhoods and everything's been pretty great so far. Why would you want to 1-have kids & 2-raise them there? That doesn't sound very loving or selfless at all. IMO. So, how are "we" supposed to help fix things?

I actually grew up in the ghetto when it wasn't cool to be a white kid living in an all black neighborhood/school. We all turned out differently (not by race). It all comes down to choice.

Absolutely choice and would you agree a lot of will power? I came from nothing and it wasn't easy making the right choices, but I can easily imagine myself as a young impressionable kid following along with the wrong crowd. I empathize with those who have nothing and can relate. Like I said I am not making excuses but I do understand the feeling of wanting to be part of something important.

A picture on social media shows Devin James with Charlie Dooley 9 weeks ago, two months earlier than Dooley claims he first met James. James says he posed for the picture with Dooley at a fundraiser several years ago. Dooley, through his spokeswoman Pat Washington, claims the County Executive didn't meet James until 5 or 6 days ago.

Dooley's like a whack-a-mole in this case.

Revolution starts from within... so I guess education

I'm thinking this tidbit fits w above. DOJ initiated apology tour?

Chief Jackson had planned to visit various sites in Ferguson today, including the Canfield Apartments where Michael Brown was shot and killed on August 9, to personally extend his apologies for the incident.

However, those visits have been cancelled following Thursday night's unrest in Ferguson.

Yet another thing to put in the 'no true bill' column

And I'm not even going to make mention of the victims ethnic origin

Totally missed it. Was watching the stupid livestream. Ugh. Gramcracker, let us know how it goes (whenever you can).
so far, many valid points are being made and encouraging discussions/solutions re those is a good thing

but IMO those valid points have zero relation to the MB incident. race was not an issue there, except for the fact that a young man showed no respect for civility and authority that day and his outlook was learned in and approved by his immediate community. which, as amply demonstrated by the nonsensical/nonproductive/destructive civil disobedience displayed since then by predominately AA participants, makes it an issue of race AND class AND culture. trash comes in every color of the rainbow

that is not being acknowledged during the town hall mtg. what I'm hearing instead is "in the street for 4 hours" and "predatory" law enforcement and "predatory" government. bless their hearts. SMDH

(I won't bother re-watching to catch what I missed)
