Estimates of 3,000 people seems too low. There has easily been nearly 10,000 people flooding C-Street #HaileyOwens pic.twitter.com/8hLyCF2HuQ

Crowd estimated at 9000 at Hailey's vigil. #HaileyOwens

The people of Springfield would commend you for searching for the truth. The truth is that we will always have degenerates on the fringe of society but for the most part we are all decent people. The fact that he had no priors of this nature boggles my mind. I prefer my monsters to be out in the open.

These photos are amazing, but not surprising. Springfield is a very friendly city, they would turn out for these events and show their support. I spent a lot of time there on business years ago, its just a nice town, very midwestern values. I imagine the town and LE are still haunted by the unsolved disappearance of The Springfield Three. For those unfamiliar with this cold case, there's a thread here at WS.

Here's a link to an episode of Investigation Discovery on the case that was shown late last year

http://youtu.be/i6r_ADx0fOI

Briefly, its an unsolved case from 1992 of a mom, her daughter and her daughter's friend who all vanished from their home the night the girls graduated from Kickapoo High School. They vanished without a trace, have never been found. Yes, Springfield LE and prosecutors deserve to win this case after all they've been through investigating the Springfield Three.

I wonder why his Public Defender lawyer requested a change for a new judge? Also I wonder what a "motion to shorten time" means? Anybody know?

It's on his mo.gov.case.net

Even better.

UPDATE: Police say crowd estimate tops 10,000. People lined Commercial Street from Jefferson to Lyon, shoulder to shoulder.

I believe the parents hired the hot shot attorneys who took a gander at the probable cause statement and evidence collected. And advised the parents as to how to protect themselves and assets from this animal that used to be their son. If they paid him, they are his clients and not the son. So now they are just their spokespeople.

Good point especially if he has a million dollar trust somewhere.

I think he knows what his parents don't realize yet -- that by the time LE finishes investigating him, fighting the charges will be futile.

I hope so, I hope so!

OH my goodness I just did a successful Multi-quote! I have tried that so many times before and failed. This one worked!:skip:

Congratulations on the multi-quote!!!

I've been here since 2005 and STILL can't!

Here's something I don't understand. The police report says when they found a "possible body" in bags in the Rubbermaid tub they left and went to get a warrant. I know they were on a safety sweep at that time. But it doesn't say they checked to see if maybe the "possible body" still had a pulse or was still breathing? why not?

These were my thoughts too. Wouldn't they have checked instead of trying to preserve evidence. It doesn't sound like they checked inside the bags at that time. JMOO

I would wager this is defense protocol for cases like this. Buying time by asking for a new judge, new venue, etc. This lawyer is going to need time to figure out how to defend this dude.
Motion for Shortening time would be in response to a prior motion, so something critical can be permitted before a scheduled hearing. That's how I understand it anyway. Not sure what motion the lawyer in this case could be responding to this way.

I suspect by the time the FBI Cyber people get finished with their look/see into his computer, he's gonna get a "change of venue" to a federal courthouse and judge. Those *advertiser censored* distribution charges carry 15 years minimum each. If they find what I think they are. Just my opinion, but I look forward to it. Couldn't be a better candidate. (IMO)

BBM
no reason to seethe. It's par for the course of first appearance in court. Let's wait and SEE what's what as time goes on. Breathe.

Everyone gets their time in court at trail by their peers. I wouldn't change a thing to our laws. Calm ......... breathe....... calm...........

Actually, he will have a trial by citizens of MO as I doubt anyone on the jury is his peer. Yes, yes, I know that is what the law says but honestly who would want to be his peer! JMO

Someone in my distant past was convicted on several counts of distribution of child *advertiser censored* in federal court. Got 30 months because he had no relevant criminal history. Lame. :-/

How about the Multiple Personality defense? I have a feeling that no matter what he comes up with, no one is going to buy it (I know I'm not).

I think his defense will go with something more organic like a brain tumor. He wasn't himself. Acting irrational. Unexplained mood swings.

Tonight 8 PM Eastern on Tricia's True Crime Radio we'll discuss Hailey's case..

You can't tell me that Craig Michael Wood did not show signs of being deeply disturbed. I am researching what little there is out there about him.

Wood had child *advertiser censored* at this home which is no surprise.

As I try and type this I am so angry I'm just shaking.

How did this monster hide among the community for so long? I'm hoping as more of the story is told we will find out how he was able to hide so well.

We need to find out how he became a killer. He wasn't born this way. What happened? If we can find that out then maybe we can prevent other people from ending up like Wood and therefore save children's lives.

This case is made for the death penalty.

In addition to discussing Hailey's case Jimmy Ryce's brother Ted will join me tonight (Sunday) 8 PM Eastern.

Ted's brother Jimmy was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by someone just like Wood in 1995.

You will be amazed at how Jimmy's family took their grief and channeled it into helping others. They formed the Jimmy Ryce Center For Victims Of Predatory Abduction

How Jimmy's loved ones were able to help so many others while dealing with they deep grief will be a story you will not want to miss.

Cathy from CourtChatter.com will update us on the latest .

All you have to do is tonight, (Sunday Feb 23) at 8 PM Eastern is CLICK HERE to listen live.

If you miss the show you can click on the same link and listen at your convenience.

I hope you join us. We have a lot to talk about concerning Hailey's case and Jimmy's story needs to be heard so the Jimmy Ryce Center can continue to help others.

He knew people witnessed him kidnapping her, they yelled at him to leave her alone, chased his truck and one even tried following him,he had to know he was going to be caught but he killed her anyway. He even left her in his house and went to do laundry as if he was not afraid the police would be arriving at his door.Very brazen and terrifying Imo.He did not even attempt to disguise the license plate on the truck, which leads police right to him. Most of the time no one sees it happening but this time people did and they tried to help Hailey but the Monster won. I feel terrible for her loved ones but I also feel bad for the people who witnessed and tried to save her from this .

So...just started reading up on the Springfield Three case of June 1992. Wondering why that famous "unsolved" is not considered something to check against Wood's history? They disappeared from Levitt's house on Delmar which is just 3 minutes from where his house is:

I know he was still attending MSU (blocks away) at the time - wonder how long he's lived there?

It was like he didn't care. Whatever force was fueling his evilness took away any fear of being caught.

Monsters like these guys are the worst. They don't care who sees them. They have to find their prey no matter what. That's what makes them so dangerous.

Another question:

In trying to find out the history of the property where CMW was living, I came across this from trulia, which states that the house was built in 1940 and has a crawl space. That means pier-and-beam foundation, like our home has.

So, when did the basement with concrete floor get put in?
