She’s lying. There are too many inconsistencies in her story.
No matter what happened that night, she is responsible for the children's deaths. Whether or not she intended to kill them or whether it was accidental neglect, I don't know yet. I'm waiting for more info.

She could have a confused timeline because she is distancing herself from her irresponsibility and neglect....or because she's covering up that she intended to harm the kids....or because she was wasted and doesn't remember the events properly.

Just don't know yet.

Do You “Waste” Gas When Your Car is Idle?
When your car is idle, you don’t necessarily use the gas. When you step on the gas pedal, that’s the time that it uses it. However, when you leave it idle your car uses approximately ⅕ to 1/7 of a gallon of gas per hour.

So, if you accidentally left your car idle on a full tank, you’ll still have half left after 24 hours. But of course, you don’t want to do that because your engine might overheat.”
Have you Ever Wondered How Long Can a Car Idle?

Thanks for looking that up. Idling can go much longer than I expected!

Where does it fit in the timeline when she says she went to the shed for more gas?

And some more details here. I'm even more confused. She was locked out? Her house key isn't on her car keys? How did she get the babies out of the house later? Over night the babies die but not her? So she tries to get gas first before calling 911? So. Many. Questions.

In this article it says an investigator heard the car running, but didn't look inside. If it was your job to check on the welfare of someone, wouldn't you at least peak in the window? Or see if the person you were trying to locate, was about to leave their house? This is so disturbing. I'm sure the girls were probably already past saving, but still.

They didn't die from gunshot, car accident or drowning. Whatever caused their death wasn't immediately known.
If they had died a hot car death wouldn't they have been scratching themselves to get out, kicking, screaming, suffering and trying to do something about it? At least the 2 year old would. Wouldn't she have tried to get out of a carseat and there would be obvious attempts? Were there no marks on her? Were their bodies red from the heat?

Children are at serious risk of death if left in hot cars — don’t do it in any circumstance | NKyTribune
A new study out of Arizona State University and the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, published in the science journal Temperature, found that it takes about an hour for a child left in a hot car to suffer heatstroke, an average of 80 minutes in a sunny car to kill a child, and a little under two hours for a 2-year-old’s body to reach a core temperature of greater than 104 degrees Fahrenheit, a degree from which a body cannot cool down,”

I do not understand why the social worker didn't peek into the car. He was not there as a prowler and it's perfectly legal to look inside a car.

I didn't see this article before I posted earlier, but he was doing his job, so he shouldn't of been worried about being considered a prowler or snooping around. And if that did happen, he could of easily had proof of his job.

Here's a question. If she intentionally wanted the girls to die from heat stroke, why leave the car running? I can't figure out why the car was running at all unless she had the ac on. This can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

At some point mom got out of the car and broke into the shed for the gas can. There are pictures of the car being towed somewhere, the door to the gas tank is open.
As an adult I can’t imagine being comfortable enough in the car to sleep until noon in that heat!
This is sounding more Diane Downs by the minute. Pre meditated.
Each report it just gets worse.
It takes a lot of planning, and malice afore thought. To strap children in a car, leave it running and then put more gas in it.
That takes a lot of action, checking, like a cake in the oven. Is it done yet. Nope. Pilot light goes out, relight it,and give it more time.
Then ignore CPS, knocking on door.
Need time to concoct story, before playing the drama Queen.

Carbon monoxide is what I'm leaning towards. I just wonder if there was a gas can near the car when the CPS guy was there. He said he walked past the car on the driver's side about 2 or 3 feet away. Is the gas tank on the driver's side? It is on my vehicle.

I wonder if the gas tank was open when he was there or if she opened it after he was there.

Fatal CO poisonings cause the body to turn a bright cherry red color. I wonder if this was mistaken for them being red due to heat.

ETA, I bet he told her he was calling CPS and she unfortunately reacted by making sure there wouldn’t be any kids for them to take away from her when they came looking.

Unless her Jeep has an exhaust leak it wouldn’t be carbon monoxide. There would have to be a way for fumes to enter the car.

If an exhaust system has a leak located ahead of the catalytic converter, exhaust gasses with much higher levels of carbon monoxide may seep up into the passenger compartment.
But if this were the case, how come mom is ok?
