is there further information about who exactly the officer was working for as security? As in what entity he was patrolling for? If a private company or if for the housing authority? Because I would think it would matter, at least to me, as to whether the officer was justified based upon seeing the young men out walking at night with further investigating or looking to see what their business was.

For instance, if hired by the neighborhood housing authority or some other governmental agency they have a right to govern their occupants and lay down certain rules, such as no one living there not on lease, no one living there who is convicted felon, no loitering in or on teh street after [insert time here], no loud music, no parties etc etc etc.

Who was he patrolling on behalf of, what rules was he enforcing and did he have a right to be looking over these kids if he was unaware of gun or anklet? How can anyone know without that info whether he was being over vigilant or "profiling" or had a right to be suspicious of the young men who apparently ran when they saw him seeing them?

StL PD officer was working for a private firm which provides security in that beautiful neighborhood 'cause StL PD apparently doesn't patrol as well as they want -- I do know of a few SLU professors & one Wash U med student (friends) who live there -- and heck yeah, there's "profiling" in that 'hood -- security & LE knows who lives where in that community

Dear Dana, your post up there ^^^^ thank you. It is excellent...stellar even. ;)

I'm aggravated that I can't find the video, and I'm thinking I saw it on the news, that Chief Dotson said that all the officers in the Shaw area were very familiar with most of the 'teens' (not sure if that's the word he used). They were very familiar with VMeyers also. So, to me, it's no stretch of the imagination to see someone that's under house arrest outside with friends, that I'm betting they also knew, to wonder what they're up to. Whether you're working as a cop that night or security, they know who the law offenders are so why wouldn't you check on them?

That's a new chant! Document and comply, so you don't die!

better than "who do we want? Darren Wilson! how do we want him? DEAD!" in the very least, they are starting to understand the reality of the World, right?

KSDK: "The tests confirm gunshot residue on Myers' hand, the inner waistband of his jeans, and on his t-shirt. Investigators say the presence of gunshot residue on a person's hands could mean that individual fired a gun, was near a gun when it was fired, or touched an object with gunshot residue on it. Also, people who are shot at close range can have gunshot residue on their person."

bumping

aaaaand the teen ran because>>>>>>>>>>>>
he wore an in-house arrest ankle bracelet and he
had a gun.
and LE had every right to ask him to stop or to follow him.

big fat duh -- protesters still trying to make VM a hero (not sammwich)

So is it Vonderitt or Vonderrick? Confused..........

Vatterott ? another link  just joking

IMHO parents need to parent or at least those deemed to parent need to . . . I just don't get it! Thankful for supportive parents/village

As far as the whole "why did the Shaw cop chase after VM" thing, with his history, I would imagine just the way he was behaving and acting gave the officer more than enough to gather suspicion than just the color of his skin.

And you know what? I realize there is racism in the world and I realize that racial profiling does happen. But I will tell you this: Who do you think a cop would be more likely to find suspicious and perhaps follow...Vanilla Ice or Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air??? Who would the average cop prefer to beat down - Justin Bieber or Denzel Washington? It is about far more than skin color. It is about the way they dress, the way they carry themselves, the way they speak that makes someone look suspicious. I am sorry that so many in the black community choose to act this way and call it their culture. Well their CULTURE is what is getting them killed and is getting them profiled - much more than the color of their skin. Act, talk, dress like a , you will be treated like a , even if you are a medical student. Act, talk, dress like a normal person in society and you will be treated as such, even if you are a violent criminal. Perception is the key and police - and all human beings for that matter - respond to a lot of visual and verbal cues when making an initial assessment of another human being. They say that first impressions count, well, yes, they do. Your initial assessment of someone might be totally incorrect or off base once additional information is known, but when you are talking about life and death situations like these, where the totality of the event last less than 3 minutes, there isn't a whole lot else to go off of.

Think about how many times per day you make an initial visual summary of a person. You see a man iin a 3 piece suit and tie, you would likely think "businessman" even though he may just be headed to a funeral, or a wedding, or to a court appearance. You see someone wearing gold chains, baseball cap turned sideways and their pants hanging down, you are going to think "street " even if the person is a straight A student that volunteers with the elderly 3 days a week.

THANK YOU!!! This is everything I've been unable to articulate.:clap::clap::takeabow::blowkiss:

Well that's about as stupid as it can get. So a pedophile can get a job working in a school around children cause....no questions asked? just wow

at least he/she has a job :puke: ?

Ya know, I'm in the StL area and am really embarrassed to say I live here. All these activists, communists, thugs, gangs all antagonizing, bullying and holding a city hostage for their own agendas. I wish the peaceful protesters would separate themselves from these people. Hey, I'm all for a movement and protesting if it's for a cause they truly believe in. But the lies and propaganda is draw dropping. Many of these protesters know or rather seen/heard the facts and refuse to believe a word of it. However, they will believe street rumors. No video, autopsy, paperwork, gun residue or hard cold fact will change their minds and that's so very sad.

Let's pick Bella for a perfect example of truth vs rumor since she's such a great journalist (ugh). Watching her on livestream getting pulled over by LE with her perfect Eddie Haskel sweetness and then to the viewers, after the fact, making up all those wild accusations of what LE did and said to her was incredible. LE was nothing but polite to her - lots of us saw it and heard it. Truly a person with an agenda. Making up nonsense and accusations just floors me. Stick to the movement without all the lying.

As far as THEIR civil rights? What about the businesses and citizens civil rights THEY (protesters) are taking away without a thought. This whole fiasco in StL is nothing but hypocrisy at it's finest. And, anyone with a list of DEMANDS OR ELSE is nothing short of a terrorist. Or else what? The city gets torched? People will pay? Businesses will be ruined? Where is this 'peaceful' in peaceful protesting? I still think it boils down to wanting no laws, no rules. Our city. I guess we should give it to them and move so they can have their own city? I would laugh if it wasn't so tragic that black lives matter, LE should stop killing their kids! OMG! Stop killing your own!

YES ma'am to this whole post! I've been saying for months now that "people" don't want justice and change, they just want ODW in jail or dead.

If I'm remembering correctly he stated that in the very first presser he did the night of the shooting.

Was it Roorda that was involved in some incident too? Maybe even fired? Maybe one of those that covered for another or something? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy?

Nope, that's the same guy:

"Though Roorda is, by all accounts, a friend to the police, his own history as a cop isn't all that flattering. He spent spent eleven years as a police officer in Arnold before the department terminated him 2001. According to court filings from a later appeal, Roorda was accused in 1997 of trying to cover for another officer by filing a report containing false statements about a suspect's apprehension and arrest. That incident earned him a reprimand. Four years later the department fired him after a dispute with his police chief over paternity leave grew heated. Roorda claimed that the chief verbally intimated him, but an audio recording proved that this claim, too, was a "false report.""

This just reminds me of once when I was little my brother was almost ran over by the mailman, instead of getting mad at the mailman my mom asked "why were you in the street?". It's about personal responsibility! If he would have been following orders of his house arrest he would never have been in the position he was!

I don't think anyone disputes whether or not he should be held responsible for his actions but just because one person isn't responsible in their actions doesn't give free reign to others to act without responsibility. So what if he just broke 100 laws. The question is whether or not the shooting was justified. Based on the very limited information I've heard, I think it was.

Still NO admitting that MB stole, ignored and attacked a LEO.
There blindness is astounding.

All of which is immaterial if he surrendered himself to arrest, making the need for deadly force no longer immediately necessary to make the arrest.

The parents of both these deceased young men are being treated like royalty by the protestors. They are escorted regally and praised highly. And I want to protest that. Especially VM's parents. Foe them to be so blind about what was going on is wrong. I KNEW what my kids were putting up on their Social Media because i lurked their face books and IM's. When I saw a picture of ZigZags on my 16 yr olds FB I called her to the carpet and had a come to Jesus moment with her. She thought it was 'cool' to post that cuz she saw it on a friends tumblr . :slap:

You have to watch your teens. If they have pictures posted with stolen guns in their laps then it is the parents responsibility KNOW ABOUT IT. If your kid is ON HOUSE ARREST, then why is he out walking around with friends, and armed? If he wants a turkey sandwich make him one. Or go get it yourself! I blame the families because it should never have gotten that far. They have complained that he was their only child and was taken from them. If he was their only child then it should have been easier to keep track of his comings and goings. jmo

And I would support your right to do so.
