If it had been the victim asking to seal the records, I would have agreed. But does anybody really care what he wants? Sicko
In most cases like this, where there's a lot of pre-trial publicity, courts seal the records to protect the case as it moves to trial. His attorney is probably arguing this to ensure he gets a fair trial. It's a pain, but it would also be bad if it resulted in a mistrial or the verdict thrown out on appeal.

Details will come out at the trial.

His heinous cowardly crimes are horrendous though. He stripped the victims of dignity and destroyed self-worth. Let us be kind to them for now. The evidence will be clear for a jury.

Is there a need to shout her pain and suffering to the world? Name what awful things she must have endured other than what's already known? It may give another bad guy wrong ideas.

Does anyone suspect already that this Haslett guy may be a serial killer? There's sickness in this world. Sometimes it's overwhelming.

Authorities believe there may be another barrel in the Missouri River with more evidence linked to the case of a white man accused of kidnapping, raping and holding a Black woman captive in the basement of his suburban Kansas City home last year

I agree with you. It it should be done on her terms, not his. That’s my point. I don’t need to know exactly what happened and neither does anybody else except who’s in the court room. But he should not be allowed to make demands like that. He’s doing it for himself not her

Can anyone explain to me please? On what grounds does a perpetrator get to request the sealing of certain aspects of the case? I could understand if it was on grounds of national security or official secrets or some such where the information revealed could inform the public of things we don't already know about etc. But how's it relevant in this case?

defendants ask that things be sealed and pretrial publicity limited all the time. their theory is that by keeping some things sealed those things are less likely to taint the eventual jury pool with bias based on that pretrial coverage of info that will come out in the discovery process. MOO.

To my eye, he's screwed either way, sealed or not. He is a monstrous person who did monstrous things. there is no way to put lipstick on that pig.

Agree, his entire house is a crime scene. One of his victims is still living and can testify against him. That' just the beginning.

LIBERTY, Mo. – An Excelsior Springs man who is already in jail for kidnapping and rape charges is now facing first-degree murder involving a different victim.

Clay County prosecutors announced a first-degree murder charge against 41-year-old Timothy Haslett in relation to the killing of 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale.

“Today’s indictment represents the next step in our pursuit of justice for the victims, the families in our community, Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said during a Tuesday news conference.

"In addition to the statements from T.J., Thompson said Crosdale appears on a photo taken from Haslett’s electronic device showing her inside his basement." Y I K E S

Not only that but there was more (taken from the article you posted)"

A photo storage card recovered from his home shows people associated with Crosdale.

"Today’s indictment represents the next step in our pursuit of justice for the victims, the families and our community. The physical, psychological, and sexual torture described by the defendant’s surviving victim is brutal and barbaric,” Thompson said. “In Clay County, regardless of who you are, how much money you have, or what color your skin is, everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law.”

Thompson also emphasized that the investigation into Haslett remains open and more charges may be brought.

Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson said Timothy M. Haslett was charged with murder in connection with 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale’s death, adding that she was killed “by an act of homicidal violence.” He said her remains showed impact wounds consistent with a gunshot.

He is being held in the Clay County Detention Center on $5 million bond.

SBM. I wonder why it's phrased this way, rather than "died from a gunshot wound"? What would an "impact wound" be that would cause him to say that instead of just saying a gunshot wound?
Only thing I could think of was non lethal round ie rubber bullet/bean bag or possibly bolt gun think what they use on livestock just a guess

Investigators believe Crosdale, who is Black, was killed between June 6, 2022, and Oct. 7, 2022, an indictment states. Photos taken from a device belonging to Haslett showed Crosdale inside the basement of his Excelsior Springs home, according to Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson.

The blue barrel Crosdale's remains were found in also matched other barrels at Haslett's home, the prosecutor said.

[...]

Haslett, who is white, allegedly told the surviving victim that one woman had been killed with a gas mask and the other "died by electrocution" during a sex act, the probable cause states.

The surviving victim said Haslett threatened to suffocate her and put her in a barrel "like the rest of them" if she did not listen to him, it alleges.

depending on the state of the remains I can see them using the term consistent with a gunshot. Without a bullet or GSR around the entry or exit wound to prove there was indeed a gunshot, consistent would seem the more appropriate term since ME's deal in facts and what can be seen/proven. ME could see wounds that are consistent with gunshot but cannot say died by gunshot for sure. IMO
