LE can put together all the half truths, hints KC gave her family. In her own backwards sort of way, she DID tell them where the body was.

KC told them exactly where she was. She had hoped to get to California before they found her and most likely felt like they never would find her. It is an impossible task to search all of that area with the terrain and underbrush as it is and she knew that.

I believe she did plan to move her later, but what she didn't count on was the water coming up and covering her. She was back in jail before the water receded.

Then again, she may have thought that area would be developed like so many are there and the dozers would take care of the body when they dozed through all the underbrush.
