Officers are actively searching Double Oaks Road off Statesville Road near uptown Thursday afternoon.

Anywhere off I-77 and Statesville Rd is not stellar. My hubby's former company put in a few housing developments up there and some of that area is definately sketchy.

Lots of good info in that video. Hope she's found soon. I'm local and it's blowing up my fb/twitter feeds with notices.

The CMPD just held a live-streamed press conference and stated that this is now being treated as a homicide investigation. They described activity on cell phone or debit card as "dead". Her three-year old son who was with her this weekend in Charlotte is safe and now with his father. Apparently, Bianca has only been living in Charlotte for a week, having moved from Greensboro, NC to live with her boyfriend. Sad.

Police: Witnesses not truthful in disappearance of teacher Bianca Tanner, case upgraded to homicide

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police upgraded their search for a missing teacher to a homicide investigation Thursday, saying they don’t believe some witnesses are telling the truth about what happened to Bianca Tanner.

On Thursday, officers searched homes, a car and a creek near uptown Charlotte in an attempt to find Tanner, 31, who was reported missing Sunday afternoon. Investigators have expanded the search as far as Virginia and have enlisted the help of police in Greensboro, where Tanner lived before moving to Charlotte last month.

Police have not named a suspect in Tanner’s disappearance, but /Charlotte police Chief Rodney Monroe said there are inconsistencies in witness statements.

“Some of those we have interviewed, we do not believe they have been forthcoming with us,” Monroe said in an afternoon press conference. “We just don’t feel that this is a simple missing persons case.”

Smith, who reported her missing, has faced several criminal charges in the past decade. All were dismissed.

Christopher Hamilton of Greensboro told the Observer that he dated Tanner last year. She accused him of stalking and trespassing in January. Those charges are pending.

In March, Tanner took out a temporary restraining order against Hamilton, writing: “He has repeatedly called my job; threatened me to damage my car. He threw a bottle at my residence balcony window.”

Richardson said her sister got the restraining order because Hamilton “had been aggressively pursuing her, sending her all types of messages, after she tried to distance herself from him.”

Police are working overtime on this case. They returned to the last place Tanner was seen Friday.

It was the apartment she was sharing with her boyfriend. Police sources tell WBTV carpet was taken from the apartment to be analyzed. Tanner's boyfriend is believed to be the last person to see Bianca. Police have not named him a suspect but say people they have spoken with so far are not telling the whole truth.

Good grief! I have gone by that area many times. She has such a sweet face. I wonder where the child was when she "went for a walk". He's old enough to tell what he saw maybe?

There's another thread for her on here, if I was tech savvy I would link, sorry that I am not :)

Quote: According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police search warrant, 31-year-old Bianca Richardson Tanner's young son says she was routinely beaten by her boyfriend.

From your link:

"Mommy got a spanking with the belt. Angelo kicked mommy's butt and made her cry," he said in the interview. "Angelo is mean to mommy and hurt mommy in the face."

Smith voluntarily went to investigators for an interview but when they asked for permission to search his phone, he quickly deleted some information before giving consent, according to the warrant.

It is not known what he erased from the phone.

Detectives have also learned that Smith has an outstanding warrant for domestic battery in Springdale, Arkansas.

Smith's girlfriend at the time reported that he "threw her onto the bed and covered her face, both mouth and nose, with his hand smothering her," according to the warrant.
