Any locals watching WTVD - apparently there is a report that a woman has come forward and identified the "person of interest" in the photo released.

Anyone see the broadcast ?

This is great news, that someone else can see the outline of another person. Couple that with the news that someone has come forward and ID'ed the POI and maybe we're about the get a break in this case.

I don't know that this is true yet - not finding a link at WTVD. The person that told me this info said it was reported to be the case -supposedly recently released from prison. I'd wait to get a link...looking for one.

Wow! We are all photo experts, too!! I can't believe LE didn't see it before everyone had to point it out to them. The real photo expert did an excellent job in making the photo clearer and colored tho! Bravo!

They may wait till they find or ID the second person LE now admits to. Seriously, how could they miss that? I also think there may be a second person in the back. Who sits by themselves in the back when there is an empty seat in front? From the below link:

The Charlotte news stations are reporting that there may have been a sighting of the man in the surveillance photos in Gaston County, NC (roughly an hour from Chapel Hill) earlier today. I hope it's a real lead and not just grasping at straws.

(I've been reading on Websleuths for two years and didn't have an e-mail address that I could register with until this week - glad to finally be able to post and not just read! I hate that my first post is on a subject that hits close to home though, I live in NC and Eve's murder is all over the news. I can't imagine how her family must feel.)

Oh, and as far as the gang stuff goes - there are definitely gang problems in the area, but maybe not so much in Chapel Hill near the school. Durham definitely has some major gang issues, but I don't doubt that even Chapel Hill has their share. I teach at a pretty affluent high school near Charlotte, and even in a fairly privileged population there's an alarming amount of gang stuff that goes on. I can't imagine that Eve had anything to do with a gang, but she certainly could have been targeted by one.

Welcome Hucklepie - you'll enjoy it here. Yes this is very sad indeed but I suspect it will be solved. Will never right the wrong, but if the perp is picked up, at least he will hopefully never have another chance to do this to another innocent.

I hear stuff from time to time, mostly just stuff pertaining to my own school and students. It seems like there's not a lot of targeting of people who don't have some sort of gang affiliation, but it's not unheard of. It's as good a theory as any other at this point.

I lean more toward the idea of a stalker situation, to be honest. Eve was definitely a high-profile student at a high-profile university; I have a number of friends at UNC-Chapel Hill and all of them have met Eve at least once or twice. Being such a pretty girl, it's entirely likely that someone could have had some awful obsession. There hasn't been anything in the local news about any boyfriends, past or current.

RC, My sister lives down there, she heard the same report you have heard. There was an interview of a female on their news, saying she knew the suspect. Her identity was hidden from viewers, as she said she feared for her life.
I think they will have an arrest soon.
