Hoping for justice, Lumberton community continue to mourn Hania Aguilar
Neighbors have put up purple balloons around the entrance to the Rosewood Mobile Home Park where Aguilar's family lives. Purple was her favorite color. People stopped by all day to drop off flowers, candles and groceries. "Just to show her that we do care,” AH said.
Neighbors have also left balloons nearby the scene off Wire Grass Road where Aguilar's body was found.
"A lot of us are parents, mothers and fathers for the detectives, and we all take a personal role,” said Sgt. Chris Cody, an Aviation Team Leader with the Fayetteville Police Department.
Cody has assisted in the case. He works with drones, helping investigators search areas. The 25-year veteran of the force also has two children himself.
He admitted the case has taken a toll. "We all try and strive. We work long hours. We work tedious time. We chase down every lead can,” Cody said.
The goal is getting justice for Aguilar.
Another vigil is planned for Sunday.
Aguilar's funeral is scheduled for next Saturday. The Robeson County Schools superintendent said it will be held in the Lumberton High School gymnasium. They’ve already canceled a planned wrestling match.
