The family are in local news casts and putting out flyers. I am disappointed HPPD have not had some kind of press conference to further get the word out. Check backyards.
I plan on going out and looking around tomorrow.

Channel 2 news just stated a group of locals and family met at 3pm at a church across the street from her home.
Would have been helpful if local news got this out earlier. Channel 2 edited at 6pm the last paragraph about searches.
Did not state if they will meet up tomorrow or what time but I will go check it out in the am.
HPPD needs to go door to door searching back yards, I doubt she got far or would have been physically able to get through heavily wooded area.

I searched with the family and community for Heddie today with no luck. There is a search being organized for in the morning. I will post here when they set a time and place.
Her house is right by the greenway entrance. She has walked the greenway before with her sister. The only hits the bloodhounds got was going door to door and then they lost scent. I searched the wooded areas around the neighborhoods where she was last seen today.
The trails all around piedmont environmental center over to Gibson have been scoured pretty well, including fire breaks. The area is all around high point city lake. The creeks around there are really shallow right now as we haven’t had a lot of rain.
Air scent dogs went out with us today and didn’t find anything, but we really didn’t even know where to start with them as she has been gone so long. So much of the area is private property and quite a bit of fencing that it’s somewhat hard to navigate.

Organized search Saturday 8/27 8:30am at Lowes parking lot at 1236 Guilford College Road.
Thank you Podengo, I will be there in the morning.
Is this search with family and friends only or is there any search and rescue organizations helping?
I hope the family gets this search info to the local news at 11pm tonight to get the word out for tomorrow.

What an awful story! I hope they are able to find Miss Heddie safe soon!

I don't appreciate that they called the search off so quickly. It is at the point where she has not been missing that long and she is critically endangered. If they are able to find her, she will surely be terrified and in need of medical attention. :( God willing, they will find her before anything tragic happens and she is able to be brought home safely.

I am not one to bash the police and understand them being short handed but they could have called in help from Greensboro and Winston Salem. This lady is just as important as a child missing. They would not have scaled back after 2 days with a child missing. Could be cut budgets also. It still would have been nice for some kind of press conference and statement from HPPD.

There is a lady who is organizing grids and such with search and rescue experience. Not sure if it made the news or not. I’m wearing a shirt today that says “Austin”. Say hi!

O’Toole says Dawkins has “severe dementia,” and she may not be familiar with her own neighborhood. Strangers may scare her.

O’Toole says the best way to help is to review any doorbell or exterior camera footage beginning at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to see if anyone may have walked past.

The police department does not want civilians going out looking for her.

Just north in Virginia , Aletha Walton (69) was found alive after 8 days. I know it is hard to keep searches going, but 2 days wasn't enough and it is especially important to use the weekends when more volunteers are available.

Another organized search for Mrs. Heddie today at 3pm. Meet at lowes foods 1236 guilford college rd. High point.
Podego,
I do remember seeing an Austin t-shirt but did not see your post until I got home. Where did you search today any new news?
I searched Bicentennial Park North passed Wendover, starting at Tarrant Rd. Very thick brush and the creeks are moving in small sections, many spots are dry though. I checked the places I could get to easily. Talked to about 30 people on the trail.
Not sure she could get that far crossing Wendover but no one had searched that section.
Are you going back out at 3pm? Might be when the family searches.
Do you know if they will meet on Sunday?

Is there somewhere she liked to go when she was younger? Have those types of areas been checked?

I ask because a similar missing scenario happened with a friend's dad. He was missing a couple of days in VA in the winter. He was eventually found (safe!) by railroad tracks. He used to love trains when he was younger. They theorize he may have headed toward the sounds of trains. He was about 15 miles from home.

Most of the articles are 2 days old. The HPPD did not want people searching the first 2 days while they were out with Greensboro Fire and Rescue Guilford EMS. After they scaled back by Friday the family and locals went back over some already searched areas and expand the search out further.
I am guessing 100 people and more were still coming by the time I set out. A couple people were to come and use drones.
Some went door to door and some drove certain areas.
Checking retention ponds were a good idea I heard mentioned.
I heard she was seen by 2 people in the Whitehall(?) area but that was on Thursday. The people had no idea she was missing or in need of help.
I am fearful with it being so hot and her being dehydrated she may have looked for water. It was mentioned to not only look for an upright Heddie but for her to be lying down or sitting also.
Pray she is found safe soon.
