This article: http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/7413974/ says that DNA has cleared family members. So at least for the moment, it does not appear as if DH is a POI or suspect.

Exactly!! I had similar surgery approximately 10 years ago and was (luckily) cared for by my loving mother. I was given specific instructions to keep any unneeded movements to a minimum for, I believe, 3 days or so - basically to be on bedrest or in an easy chair for that period of time. I was waited on hand and foot and was treated like a queen.

This makes me seriously wonder about the statement that D "put her ear to the door and listened for KT's breathing" (paraphrasing). I'm quite sure that the only footsteps KT would have been making would have been to the restroom and back....very little else.

My point is that you would expect that D would have checked on KT if there had been footsteps because there should not have been any.

Well diphi, the cops apparently are looking for a random male rapist/killer.
Hopefully the media will leak a few more details from their sources or better yet, RPD will hold a news conference and tell the public some credible information.

I agree, I doubt that JG will ever stay in that house again. Will probably rent or sell it at a reduced price. It doesn't even have a garage. Maybe he could remove his valuables, keep it unlocked, and cops set up a sting operation to see if the perp returns to the scene of the crime. It could even be a vagrant camped out in the woods in the area.

It seems to me that if someone had been staying in JG's house while he was away he would have had some clues about that - things out of place when he returned, etc. Maybe the possible squatter was really neat and thoughtful, but that seems unlikely. And why would JG allow KT to stay in his house if he thought he might have a squatter that could show back up? Wouldn't DH have known that too and would have mentioned it? If LE thought a squatter theory was possible it seems they would specifically ask neighbors about seeing someone coming and going from the house and we would have heard about it here. BUT, in regards to the bag corners, someone could have been using this house as a place to do drugs sort of vacant crack house style. Regardless, good ideas pinkorchid.

PLEASE LE tell us something so we stop going crazy here!!!!

Per news reports, the cops checked DNA from KT's close male friends.
She does not strike me as a promiscuous lady.

KT was probably not promiscuous but very discreet and definitely vain.
IMO, KT was well respected and achieved alot for NC education. She traveled in powerful circles and I'm sure had lots of friends - male and female. I can't help but believe something in her personal life lead to her murder. It's much more rational that being a random act committed by someone who didn't leave alot of clues.

Another thought - perhaps the "intruder" had a key.

If it was personal, then why decide to kill her when she is in Raleigh and when there is a witness around?

Does anyone know her setup in Greenvilee? Did she live in a gated community, have an alarm system, other people residing with her? Just curious as to why a planned murder would wait until she is was out of town. How likely is it that many people would have known of her plans for the weekend.

Sloothseeker, you thought the intruder may have had a key ... I wondered who JG had watching his house when he didn't have guests staying there. The house had been empty for some time before Taft stayed there ...


I do not think it is anything but good detective work to question DH's actions and her behavior.

She was the only person in the house when the victim was murdered and has a story full of inconsistencies. Is it due to drugs and drinking? We don't know. It makes more sense if she was ... but no credible, linkable source has stated that.

So we have to assume she was sober. What kind of sleuth wouldn't look at her as being involved? I can't help but question her involvement.

The reporter on video link posted by Salem states: Holton says police have cleared her. Holton says. Not Police say.

Obviously, if there is semen, and they have evidence that indicates she was raped, it was not DH who did that. But her saying she was cleared by the police is not the same as the police saying it. JMO

Taft's sister says she is not a suspect

She tells ABC11 Eyewitness News that police interviewed her at length and have informed her she is no longer a suspect.

Sources close to the case say Holton is essentially right, although no one can be completely eliminated as a suspect at this point in the investigation.

I'm not sure what he means by letting the search warrants speak for themselves, but if they didn't consider her a suspect in the beginning, I doubt they would have searched her vehicle.

I've noticed that hardly anyone has had anything to say about the case (nothing form JG), except the one appropiate statement from the daughter asking the killer to turn themself in.

Let me see how I can phrase this with the utmost sensitivity....I would think that the prosecutors would be cognizant of the fact that statements made about the case to the public or even to third parties will eventually undergo intense scruitny in the even of an arrest of this killer. In light of that, I would think they would reel in those people and explain how loose lips can sink ships, even by well meaning, innocent people.

It's never too early to be working on the trial.

Having said that, apparently the cops are going in a different direction.
There are 2 media links that cite sources close to the investigation that says DH was cleared as a suspect. Like Salem said, until there is credible info that contradicts this news or she is named by RPD as a 'person of interest', she should be given the benefit of the doubt and not run through the mud on this board....imo

KT was well known in Raleigh and NC yet they are no witnesses coming forth to the media regarding what they think they may have seen during the timeframe. Usually by now with this many people involved - there have been "leaks" to the press.

Most people usually love to talk about what they think they saw during the time a crime was committed. Yet nothing from neighbors, store and restaurant employees, surgeon's other patients, "friends" - NOBODY! Plus the fact RPD is very tight lipped, as expected; however, rumors do fly and yet nothing regarding this particular case.

Are we websleuthers the only ones wasting our time on trying to figure all this out?

Let's remember that it has not been said that KT was raped (except on here.) It was stated that there was a sexual assault. That could mean rape, but it could also mean something else (open to your imagination.) Also just because DNA was found doesn't mean it was semen. Remember that they found 2 hairs. You can get DNA from hair. And hair isn't dated. Who knows when and where they came from - guests to the house months ago, maybe KTs doctor as he's wrapping her gauze, KTs son that she saw at some point, etc. - all would have nothing to do with the case.

She was friends with the Governor there, and this is a hi profile case in that area.....i read at one time she was running for the senate there in the state i believe it was,........I wonder if she had plans on running again this fall for a senate seat in the state, or running for a seat in the US senate?
Anyone know?

the assumption by the expert that it was a teenage boy perhaps.....failed to mention that in his statistics usually the woman actually lived in the house before having a crime committed against her, and the victim and the perpetrator had had some contact with each other before the assault.

If we knew, which path LE was on right now in there investigation, we could speculate on a possible motive suspect.

I hope some other people are working around the clock to figure it out! I'm really mad about this murder and I will never let it rest. I did not know KT personally. I have met her ex-husband several times professionally many years ago. I'm not sure if he was married to her at the time. (I attended school in Greenville)

I trust that LE feels the same urgency that I do. I hope that the Governor, police chief and the DA think about KT every night before they lye down and every morning when they get up and feel COMPELLED to solve this. I don't know what they are doing, but it should involve more than waiting for another attack to occur. That is NOT acceptable.

As I stated upthread, I think it is logical to think that the prosecutors have had a pow wow with witnesses and asked them to keep their thoughts to themself, in anticipation of the trial. While most are doing that, some have not. I have no explanation for that.

I'm quoting my own post to get your attention.

says the reporter contacted LE and NO ONE has been cleared. However, we still have the issue of the male DNA and possible sexual assault. So.... you MAY sleuth inconsistencies in the media reports, interviews, LE statements and the 911 calls - please provide links.

Please do NOT bash or trash any family members. Keep your theories and speculation respectful of the victim's family.

I intend to keep my mind open to ALL evidence. I can only trust that LE just diggs in to this case and will not let up until they get to the truth.

So many people loved and respected KT. I was just reading all of the condolences from across the country! There are thousands of them. Here's a link for an on-line condolence cite. It is so touching. There must be justice for KT.
