JTF- I do agree with you on much of what you said on your above post. I believe that some reporters do have close sources that do tell the priveledged things. I am just not sure if that story will change as the RPD needs it too, if they need it to. That's where I am confused/worried/not sure. And, I also agree with you that a male probably did rape and kill KT. But, I think maybe where our opinions are differing is- IMO, D either invited, or knew, or somehow holds the key in some way to knowing or helping lead police to who might have done this to her sister. There are just too many things in her story that add up to a person who is totally in the dark about what happened that night. I don't believe she willfully planned it or wanted it to happen. More like her irresponsibility and addiction did her and her sister in. IMO, I don't think it was a totally random person- just walking in and raping/murdering/leaving. That's where we differ also. But, I'm glad we can debate it. It helps me think about all aspects and I like that.

I feel certain that if it looks strange it is strange and this with the sister is strange. The back to the camera interview added to the strangeness.

Yes, a lot about DH seems very strange, no arguing that.
I have only known one female alcoholic (that I was aware of).
I can see her acting the same way....very low self esteem.

Perhaps DH was aware of a male house guest that raped and mortally wounded her sister.
Like I said before, it is hard to grasp this theory because why would such a man rape and kill one, yet leave the other unharmed to help identify him? If this was male DNA on the cup or beer bottle, the cops would have D so hot under the bright lights, the recent stories would never have surfaced from the media. They would be hot on the trail of killer with a very detailed description and composite picture.
The 'invited man' Just doesn't add up for me....

Male DNA doesn't explain everything.

It doesn't explain why the pervert perpetrator had no interest in the younger sister. This unbelievably bold and brazen criminal has no interest in younger sis in bed. Has no interest in younger sis in the shower, or whatever.

He wasn't interested in cash, he wasn't interested in the GPS, he wasn't interested in a Lexus, not interested in any of the goodies in an attorney's home.

Male DNA doesn't answer everything.

Unknown male DNA in the rape kit says DH did not kill her sister.
Sickos of this type don't always fall into a pattern of taking credit cards or cars so they can get caught....like the dumb thugs that killed Eve Carson

Ghost- What are your thoughts on what potientially could have happened that night? I hear what JTF is saying about killing one and leaving the other to id, unless he didn't know there were two people in the house, which goes back to random. but then why would D's story be so wishy-washy. I am more confused than ever now....

Have they said unknown male DNA in the rape kit specifically? I wasnt sure if the unknown male DNA was in the rape kit or just found other places in the home.

Kathy most likely was assulted when her sister was out. Then the sister comes home, hears movement... (she thinks it's her sister just moving in her room)... but maybe it's the killer leaving. Later finds her sister bloody from "surgical complications" , calls 911. Then later after knowing her sister was murdered, she remembers the noises.
It sounds like Kathy was sexually assulted, I seriously doubt the sister is involved in any way. Just my opinion. Home invasion= stranger=stalker type of thing.

I don't believe this happened in the morning. This happened in the dark of night.

DH may have a problem with the truth in her regular life. She may have substance issues. There could have been jealously. DH may have desperately wanted to be able to afford to have that surgeon do some procedure on her.

The man part is where it gets difficult. I have to return and answer that one later.

Thanks

JTF - your ideas have been fascinating to follow as you developed your opinion. Even though I'm not on the same page as you, your thought process on this case has been helpful to me.

On this post I must respectfully disagree though. I would think that DNA from the rape kit does NOT indicate who murdered KT, only who sexually assaulted her.

Well, that is very true.
However, unless a "gang rape" occurred,I would think the rapist would also be the killer. I can't see more than one perpetrator in this case, but there could have been 2.

ruben, beside alcoholism and possibly drug abuse, does D suffer from some form of diagnosed mental illness?

Hey JTF: I have enjoyed our spirited debate! So, respectfully.....are you kidding me? D has/is/will use alcoholism, drugs(??) and may even throw in the "whoa is me" cuz my older sister was pretty, young looking, thin, successful, political connections, money....DEFENSE. Yeah, so not why add a lil mental illness into the mix! Sorry....just sayin!
I'd be scared to be within 1000 miles of D, for fear she's so unlucky...she's gonna be struck by lightning! And probably 3 x in a row!

Hmm....O.J. Simpson

911 operator: "Is it the same as what it was before?"
D:Yeah but maybe not..... I mean she was snoring last night when i went ou..when i went upstairs ABOUT THREE"

Can anyone else hear this tape well? I have a hard time with this particular part which occurs about 5 minutes 20 seconds into the audio clip.

I'm just wondering....why would it matter if you had "never been in that house before" ,if you heard footsteps, wouldn't you get up and check? Why didn't she mention footsteps on the 911 call? And am i the only one up at 2 am making muffins and worrying about this case? LOL

no-i am worried about it too! but it is only 12:30 here and had a tooth pulled today, so up late, babying myself...
i have read about crime for yrs and yrs and never heard about a case as weird as this, or one handled as oddly either...i can't think of one normal thing about it.
it is too weird to be random, to me, as in a man breaks in and does this crime, with no prior knowledge of house, victims, etc...i just will be shocked if this turns out to be the case and not even sure i would believe it. the way LE has handled it, i would feel as though they were hiding something, no matter how it is resolved..
if this sister is not involved in some way or other, i will eat my hat (when i can eat again...)
you must be on East coast time...am jealous as i am a NY'er at heart and miss East Coast v. much :(

Hope you feel better! Yes, its a true mystery...i admire all the dedication of the sleuths to search out and post the information that they can. I think that it was a crime of opportunity...not planned, ...well, wait a minute....what if it was a neighbor? See, i go back and forth between thinking the sister brought someone home, or she just left for hours and didn't check on the sister when she first got home....she left her in there, and maybe the perp was still in there? Without more information, there is really no where to go....except EVERYWHERE! The one thing i think everyone is agreeing on seems to be that the sis was impaired in some way.... she may have been looking at the weekend as a mini-vacation for herself. very sad. Wonder if the next door neighbor heard any cars during the night or in the morning.:waitasec:

Okay, i gotcha....however, you gotta admit, it doesn't seem like D would be much of a threat to anyone...., perhaps if she was with someone, he realizes this and doesn't think of her as an obstacle.
On the other hand, if someone snuck in there when she was out, and was still there when she came home, perhaps she never saw the person. Maybe she came home about three a.m., and KT might have tried to alert her sis, and that is when she suffered the blow, to keep her quiet...unfortunately, sis only listened at the door, she admits she did not go into the room at 3 a.m. Perp may have been in there, and left after she went to bed.

I have listened many times, too. It seems to me she started to say she went outside. Also, I think I hear her say We went upstairs about 3 (apparently I am the only one who hears this).

Does she smoke?

The "footsteps" and the time=line is what I don't understand.
Sounds like she was saying she heard this right before she went in and called 911?
Yet, she told the family she heard this during the night and checked on KT and found her to be "snoring". Going back to the official word from the cops, they think she was attacked late Friday or early Saturday.(11Pm to 2am?)
I'm still thinking D slipped out to GG and KT was maybe attacked then. She went up after 2 am and "hearing footsteps", she came back and down. It was "not her house"....did she really hear footsteps or did she just hear 'voices'....in her own head?
