It absolutely is. They are PEACE officers. Civilians can be out of control and unruly, and if they only tactic is to shoot to kill, then every drunk a-hole outside a bar is in for a load of trouble.

Scott wasn't following commands to drop the deadly weapon that could kill or harm LE officers and innocent bystanders. LE did the right thing. That's my opinion. Time to agree to disagree.

BBM How is it emasculated to have an outside agency available to keep everything above board?

What's funny is that what you said is a HUGE part of the police brutality problem.

Telling.

Did Chief Putney say what time the police videos will be released?

Yep, I'm pretty serious. Please, do enlighten me on the techniques they used to try to keep from having to kill this man who may or may not have mental disabilities? Even if he doesn't, did they do ANYTHING before resorting to deadly force?

This man, an ex con, smoking dope, while armed, in a parking lot, waiting for a school bus, made his OWN CHOICES. I am not going to blame the cops for the stupid and irrational choices that led to this man's death.

oh, lookie, a list of 'demands' from the Charlotte protesters. I am sure they are very realistic and objective....

http://www.charlotteuprising.com/petition

AN END TO THE REPRESSION & TARGETING OF PROTESTORS AND ALL THOSE ENGAGED IN THE CHARLOTTE UPRISING

How is ******ing going to help? These demands are ridiculous.

They want the CMPD to release people who were looting and setting property on fire?

I don't know how anyone could make the assumption that this officer killed someone because he could get away it...smh...that's a really an unfair opinion based on knowing very little.

A very UNFAIR opinion.

Honestly, just once I would LOVE for a city to give in to those demands so we could just see what would happen with that little social experiment of a civilian ran police force.

I can't imagine what sort of twilight zone those people would have to live in.

Sitting in his truck, getting high, while armed with a gun, is not what a father should do, while waiting for his son's school bus.

He was not shot for no reason. He was shot because he would not drop his weapon. A cop does not have to put themselves in a deadly, dangerous position in order to allow a threat to their own lives, just because someone they are trying to detain does not want to put down their own weapon.

This. He was asked NUMEROUS times based on the wife's video. By her and LE. I guess she was out to get him too.

And how can you end funding for a police department, but then have a civilian oversight board for the police department?

As if less funding is going to solve anything in a city the size of Charlotte.

You 'fund' the civilian review board, and allow them to make the budget for the emasculated police force. They want the cops to have to go to BLM to get their pay...And you 'fund' the victims families while you are at it.

So take the money that is needed for resources for LE and give it to civilians? And then create a board of civilians who may or may not have an LE experience and let them not only control personnel, but policies and procedures on how to police? And the civilians on this board can only be from certain communities?

I hope they do get a payout. There are so many ways to deescalate without deadly force and it appears from what I can tell they used none before opening fire.

How many times do you feel that LE should ask someone to drop a deadly weapon? He was asked over and over and refused to comply?

It absolutely is. They are PEACE officers. Civilians can be out of control and unruly, and if they only tactic is to shoot to kill, then every drunk a-hole outside a bar is in for a load of trouble.

Every drunk ******* outside of a bar isn't toting a deadly weapon and not every drunk ******* outside of a bar refuses to comply with demands of LE.

Scott wasn't following commands to drop the deadly weapon that could kill or harm LE officers and innocent bystanders. LE did the right thing. That's my opinion. Time to agree to disagree.

Precisely.

Who said the people protesting would be the over sight panel?

The protesters are a major portion of the BLM movement. The protesters would be part of the group that the oversight panel would consist of.

Then you clearly don't know much about negotiating for what you want. If you want a raise, you negotiate for higher than you really want, and "settle" for something in the middle. Get it?
I don't ask for the boss to turn over his office, the keys to the safe, and corporate control to score a 2% raise in pay. (And who gets even that anymore?)

And all the comments stating "I'm sure that s/he said/meant X" or "To the best of my knowledge Y" are just deflecting from the simple truth that nobody knows these people, no one speaking here was present, and arguments are being made in keeping with pre-existing bias and opinion.

Critical thinking skills? No longer a "thing" IMO. Along with respect, discussion, debate. You just need an iPhone and a big mouth. JMO

No need to be so rude.

Wow.

I'm an Android girl myself LOL

"Will be controlled by communities most impacted by policing and incarceration in Charlotte"

So people who don't live in these communities "most impacted" are just SOL and have no representation on this board? Sounds a lot like "no taxation without representation" to me.

Link what? They did not specify. But let me ask you---do you think it is even a possibility that they will place anyone on that panel who did NOT take part in the protests?

ETA:
"Will be controlled by communities most impacted by policing and incarceration in Charlotte"

So the panel will be made up of people who live in the high risk areas of Charlotte. And I think that describes many if not most of the protesters.
