This happened in the morning, preparation wise, a very clean abduction of sorts, it seems, if that's what it was. This abductor felt most confident doing it at this time, obviously near her home, so did she have a routine for breakfast, getting gas or anything near her home? That would be good to know. What I wonder was her favorite breakfast? This abductor chose this time for reasons, so could one of those be the cover of darkness as they prepared, pre-positioned another car. When was sunrise that day? If this abductor was so concerned about not being noticed and yet knew enough to target Sara specifically, could this abductor be concerned with being recognized locally, themselves or their car? As such, could positioning of the car be a distraction, as part of a plan.

For reference:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumbee

Interesting, the city of Pembroke is 89% Lumbee Indian, and the county 40%, per this link. (The things you can learn here on WS...can be quite an educational place if you want it to be :))

They are one of eight state recognized tribes.

"They do not have federal recognition."

There are places you could have walked unobserved or almost unobserved through those woods.

There's a house on Centerville Church Road that you can get to by walking through those woods.

ETA: I see a second house

True.

He might not have walked that far at all to get back to his vehicle?

(O/T, and jumping off your post, in these cases there is always the question about how did someone not see anything, particularly in more populated areas. I have stood in the spot where Jessica was abducted from. There are houses every where very close to together, cars, people outside walking their dogs, jogging, yet ARS still managed to grab her, ziptie her and take off with her in his car unnoticed, in broad daylight at that. I don't count on anyone seeing anything these days, particularly in this electronic generation where more people are glued to their phones and less to their surroundings, jmo.)

Both where the car was found and her last ping sounded are relatively isolated compared to the surroundings and provide fairly isolated paths to parks and woodlands, IIRC.

Interesting, I haven't looked it at yet on a map but this could be MAJOR if a neighbor is involved (as well as obviously other implications that can not be discussed here relating to family), also if this is a voluntary disappearance...I did not think about someone dumping the vehicle and returning to the residence or nearby, on foot...can't wait to see what this looks like on a map...

I'm thinking why not just leave the van on the less traveled road.

ETA: Like it was meant to be found THERE.

Could this be the reason the van was found at the intersection of McDonald Road and chicken Road? It threw us off.

Maybe the whole point was to walk undetected to a house nearby or more likely to where they had parked the car, leaving the van in a conspicuous place.

Can anybody tell me the location of the last ping?

The location of that last ping on Jenkins Road is right behind where we understand their home to be. I think you could have walked there unobserved from their neighborhood.

Reasons she would park her car there, assuming it was her, lock the doors and disappear: (Stealing ideas from the thread so far)

She saw an animal and thought it needed care
She saw something she wanted to investigate
She was suicidal
She wanted to go for a walk
Car had trouble so she took off walking
Someone forced her to
Someone acting in distress on the side of the road
She planned to meet someone at that random location

?? What else ??

I wonder if a metal detector around the car would be useful to see if her keys got left behind near the vehicle. I would assume if the keys were close to the vehicle she wasn't planning to get back in, but if she took them with her she did have plans to get back in. (all assuming she was the one driving)

Just my thoughts - sleepy thoughts but thoughts I could muster up. I'm really worried about her.

If you look at the map, if you get a chance, check street view. Go down McDonald Road a ways and see if it looks like you could've pulled into a field and hid the van. It's on the right side of the road.

Also it looks like a person could walk through the woods all the way to interstate 95 if they wanted to.

Well maybe they didn't pull into the field. Maybe they just parked the van next to those trees along the McDonald road like someone suggested earlier.

"The Chevrolet van was parked several feet off the road and the doors were locked, he said." from here

so I guess it would be off the road by the tree line.

Looks like that fits the description! Just off the road by the line of trees.

And that is not what tree line means to me; I think of something like the edge of the forest.

It makes sense to park the van far away from places that potentially have cameras. I think most people realize they are everywhere now... Especially someone who is closely related to LE. I think locking the door to the van was habit for whomever left it there. I'm still thinking the location close to 95 is no coincidence.

from here (updated Feb 20, '15 2:37 pm):

"The car was found empty, parked in a wheat field on the edge of a forest along East McDonald Road between Chicken Road and Centerville Church Road, Sealey said."

Yeah, it might be too soft to park there under those trees. That's why you don't park IN a field. You'll sink. So that puts us back next to the wooded area and access to walking through the wooded area undetected.

Thanks for this great local information. I so hope LE knows more in hopes for her well being, and my thoughts and prayers too go out to her family, friends and community.

~~~margarita25, thank you, for your whirl of thinking Sara's welfare through, so intensely and well with the WSers on this thread. You're all just awesome.
"Sealey said, no matter how insignificant it may seem" to "call Lt. Ritchie Adams at 910-671-3100." here BBM
This is such a puzzle, I hope anyone who remembers Sara, her White Astro Van, possibly the people around her know to and do call LE.
Somehow I missed in this post the first time around how they did say to call "no matter how insignificant it could seem". Glad to see this. I had just mentioned upstream why haven't they said this, lol.
Yall are all awesome, back at ya HG!
