Shaniya is resting in peace. Of that I have no doubts. Even if you dont believe in a compassionate God, Shaniya didnt suffer on Earth to be left in limbo.

I think that he knew from the moment the deal was made that he was going to kill her. I think that was part of the deal and AD knew it too.

As for the lack of defense-I have been thinking about it. Any defense he offered was going to be a sham. What still gets to me is how important it seemed to him in his interviews not be known as a baby rapist. Regardless of having been exactly that.

If he waives his future appeals, then I will have some more thoughts regarding him fwiw.

Respectfully bolded by me.

I think that's because child rapists have it tough in prison as far as they way they're treated by other prisoners if they land in general population. MAM was adamant that he wasn't a child rapist just in case he ended up there.

Oh how I wish he could wait out the time until his execution in general population....

Dear Shaniya,

There are no words to describe the impact you have had on my life, but this morning I thought to myself that if there were any- it would be these:

What a Wonderful World | Playing For Change - YouTube

It may sound odd to some but to me, you made this world a wonderful place while you were with us; and you gave us every tool you had to help make this world a more wonderful world than it already is, when you left us to be free forever, wonderful forever.

There are no words to thank you for that sacrifice.

You will never be forgotten, and there will never come a day that I forget what a wonderful world you made this one to be.

Sing, dance, and play forever, beautiful child. We will continue your work down here, until we meet again.

Oriah

Well, I'm crying too, Oriah... This is one of my very most favorite songs -- now I can't hardly breathe 'cause I'm holding it in, trying not to just sob. Those sweet children on this earth, singing that song. And I hear in my head Louis Armstrong singin' it, too.

Sweet Shaniya had no idea that she was giving all of us a special gift, but she gave us hope, a brush with justice and some new friends, both here in the US and all over the world -- just like those children who so beautifully sang out, smiled, and were so wonderful.

It also makes me think of a couple of Anne Frank's most quoted words from her diary:

"Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart."

and

"Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!"

Anne Frank -- Another little girl who left too early but gave us hope and love. And one who never lived into her potential on this imperfect earth.

I can envision Anne talking Shaniya's hand and introducing her to all the good children who left us way too early...:seeya:

I totaly agree... but he is not going to the general pop... SADLY he will be isolated - I wish he would be in general pop and get his Karmic dues...

If he is isolated, he will go nuts. Isolation is pretty bad, just as bad as being in the general population.

Well, at least we have this to enjoy. His record with NC Corrections is essentially complete now with all the charges. Even without the DP sentence, he would serve 67 years -- until 2080 -- he would be 100 years old! Hah!!

IINM, the judge sets the term of the offense and whether the multiple terms are served concurrently or consecutively within prescribed sentencing guidelines for the State of NC.

OK its late and I am thinking too hard but I have something on my noggin bothering me
I am Irish Spanish Japanese and have some native american in my family, each of these cultures believe in the afterlife and in order for a person that has had violence co.minted to them to have peace the offender must be brought to justice, now we have done that but I do believe she wants, maybe not everyone, but someone to know what happened to her so she can rest properly, do we think she was killed at the hotel or in the car maybe because she was crying, I'm thinking the latter, only because of the man that saw them getting in the car, what do you guys think, I love this child I never met, I want to know she is resting in peace, like I said, its late for me

I believe Shaniya has been at peace since she was taken out of this world, it is those of us who were left behind, hoping against hope for days that she would be found alive who needed MAM and Davis brought to justice.

When this story first broke LE issued a statement that there was video footage of Shaniya being taken from the hotel room alive. That video was never released (I'm sure everyone remembers the still shots taken from the footage of Shaniya and MAM waiting for the elevator - heading to the room). I'm sorry it was so long and 3 computers ago I don't have a link but I remember the press conference.

Shaniya you were a beautiful princess who brought so much goodness into the world. I'm so sorry you were hurt by those you should have been able to trust. Dance and play precious child, never to be harmed again. I'll never forget you.

Great picture there borndem, it appears that MAM has lost his edge in the last few years. I somehow don't see him winking at LEOs anymore.

HI LOVE, La Coast Mom, :)

I think his lawyer wiped his smirk off just for Public impression. I still cant stomach to look at him.
This animal can’t be anything more than an animal. :(
And I agree Shaniya is at peace with the heavenly angels, but she is still looking down at us for justice.
I pray she gets it, I pray her mom gets LWOP

Shaniya Davis' mom in court Friday, trial date may be set
A court date for the mother of slain 5-year-old Shaniya Davis could be set Friday, Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West said.
That comes during an administrative week, which is held each month. At that time, judges schedule cases after meeting with defense lawyers and prosecutors. The case management system attempts to set timetables for cases but allows flexibility for exceptional cases and for continuances.

Jury sentences Mario McNeill to death for the murder of Shaniya Davis

Mario McNeill was sentenced to death today for the murder of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis in November 2009.

McNeill, 33, declined the opportunity to speak before being sentenced by Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Jim Ammons.

Jurors deliberated a little more than a half-hour before reaching a decision.

"I can never get Shaniya back. You've taken that from me,'' said Bradley Lockhart, Shaniya's father. "You were the last thing my daughter got to look at.''

Ammons addressed McNeill before McNeill was escorted from the courtroom.

"You did not have to kill that child,'' Ammons said.

"Take him out of here now,'' Ammons told the bailiffs.

Ammons later apologized to Shaniya's family for not being able to bring them justice. He said the trial was the best that could be done.

Thanks for posting this, Rumpole. I read this when it was first posted & have just re-read it, and I have the same impression as I did when I first read it.

Judge Ammons didn't say too much in his conversation above, but I could hear & feel that this thing shook him, too. I'm sure he has seen horrible ~people~ in his court who have been on trial for multiple rapes, murders, & various other cruelties, etc., etc., and he prolly has some layer of "armor" against such horrors, and he prolly also does a good job of being neutral, but I do think this case shook him when he may not have expected it. I just have that feeling. Not even this child's mother cared about her, and this same judge will prolly preside at AD's trial as well. At least AD cared about her when she was not jonesing for whatever drug it was that she wanted. And that ~~~~~~ who killed her had no mercy for AD either when he made her choose between her daughter and her drugs that day. And the judge knows that, too.

Kudos to Judge Ammons for running that case in what seems to me to be a fair and even case. And more kudos to him for simply not leaving his bench to wrap his hands around MAM's neck and throttling him to death, because he had heard all of it too, and he had to be sure to see that he had a fair trial....

AD must be waking up in a cold sweat every night....better just plead and save your life. jmvho.
