There is still no news on Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk. I fear that her case will grow cold like so many others in Wilmington. :(

Still so much not known. That's a shame after all this time. Her poor mother...

I hope you're wrong, 'matilda, but my logical side says you're right... I have just read all this thread tonight, I'm a bit familiar with W'ton and that coastal area -- lived in NC all my life w/many trips to Wrightsville & Carolina Beaches, and Wilmington as well.

There are several similarities in some of the murders that have been discussed on this thread, and that's disturbing. And Carolina Beach, where my in-laws had a little house for several years, has had its share of ne'er-do-wells. That is not so much the case now, and hasn't been so for 20 years or so, but it does still attract some of the drifter types. Dunno, just a thought.

And WTH is it that makes it dangerous for a grown woman to walk down a street at dusk?? Maddening. No one should be foolish or flippant about the things around one, but still, you'd think a grown woman, sober or mostly so, would have the right to walk home without it being a risk to her very life. And if there is a serial attacker out there, is he so slick so as to outsmart every LE in W'ton/Hanover County? Or are there not enuff investigators to really dig into this mystery or what? Maddening, again.

Bless you folks, and thanks for putting all this info together for us. Maybe this case will turn out good.... but again, I'm shaking my head as I post those words. Shannon sounds like she would be a very interesting person to know, probably a bit "artsy" and creative, and just plain fun. I hope the world and the ones who love her have not lost all of that forever.

Another sad one, folks.

I am not feeling a stranger abduction here. At least, not a random person. I think if she was abducted, she had at least met the person.

Oh gosh. Just horrible.

I saw on the fb page that a friend said something about searching in Hampstead area.

Glad that she has been found..and that there is an arrest. I wonder if the man arrested was whom she was going on the date that night. ugh

OMG I am so sad for Shannon's family and friends. I just texted the news to Mr wm at the movie studio and he just heard.

Bradley is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday. According to officials, Bradley has a prior murder charge on his record.

The Wilmington Police Department will hold a press conference to announce the arrest and information on Vannewkirk at 9:30 a.m. today, said WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley.

How can we find info on James Bradley's prior murder charge? I am so upset I can't think straight. :(

I haven't found his prior conviction, but I did find a docket for a 1995 case where a James Opelton Bradley sued the state of RI, Central Falls Dept of Corrections under a prisoners civil rights statute. Can't get the full details of the case for free though, figures.

Interesting bit from the RI case docket (BBM):

This is a transfer prisoner from Brown Creek, N.C.; claim is for withholding of medical services and racial slur (alleged); this prisoner has history as out patient of psychiatric clinic in N.C. (Smith, M)

Good grief. I would love to know if he had stalked Shannon or if she had bad feelings about him and was avoiding him. This man is not very bright if he planned to pin this murder on his boss by burying Shannon in his garden. I hope the entire story comes out.
Blessings to Shannon's family.

He was convicted of murder in 1990 according to Star News. He just got out of jail for that in 2013!

NC. Stop letting murderers out!
