Snipped:

But Dr. Michael Evans, a physician on call when Teghan was brought to the emergency room on July 16, 2010, testified Tuesday in the capital murder trial of Jonathan Douglas Richardson that the child had a faint pulse, strained breathing, dilated eyes and was limp and lifeless.

"The main presentation was that I have a kid here that's been beaten
badly, has a head injury and has a bunch of other marks on her, but right now, the problem is the large amount of blood in the brain," Evans said.

Personally, I could not handle watching this trial.
Every time I read to catch up on this thread and read the links... I end up crying. It's so disturbing and horrifying to imagine that beautiful four year old child tortured by that monster for TEN days. The fear, the confusion, the excruciating pain... It's more than I can bear just reading it.

That nurse...all I can say is I'm so thankful there are people in this world like her.

I have been wanting to follow this trial and am just now listening to opening statements, but don't know if I can make it through this. What I'm hearing is more upsetting than I expected.

Respectfully, I believe this case cries for national coverage.

Child abuse is way too prevalent and too frequently ignored. It angers me that so many prefer to close their eyes and ears to this shameful topic
.

Yes, Chelly, I agree to the max.

It would be very, very difficult for me to know that a trial about my granddaughter or my best friend's grandson, etc., were to be on national TV or other viewed media, but I would have to think that maybe it could save just one child out there somewhere, and to know that the tolerance level of this most horrible of crimes might be lowered because of it. That might enable me to survive it.

This should be shown on national TV. People need to know to what extent child abuse can be done by one ~human being~. This is extreme, yes, but so was Shaniya Davis -- I'll stop there for now because I am sure that each one of us could name one more child that hasn't been yet named on the list if we were to make one.

And putting these cases on the front page of newspapers, magazines, e-news, etc., etc., must be done along with streaming trials like this one. It may be the only way...

JMHO :twocents:

As a trial junkie, not much keeps me awake at night. But stare at the ceiling, I did. I want to bear witness for Teghan who didn't have a friend in her world. I am fine without the live feed but i do want to look at the face her mother when she has to tell the world she left her daughter with a monster. I DO want to see that.

Agree, it should be getting a ton of national (and even international) coverage.
I did not even know about this case, and only saw it here on WS.
I am amazed it is not being screamed about on all the major news stations, much less HLN.

At the same time, I do not want to watch this on live stream.
I would like to hear testimony, and learn more about this so called "mother" and how this child was left with the monster.
But I know enough of the details about what was done to her, I think if I had to listen to them explained, in depth, I would be on a friggin' plane to NC trying to get at this guy.
I just do not even have the words to explain....

bbm

I don't think there are any words, Nymeria -- only chokes and sobs and foot stomps and pounding a table and primal screams... What has been done is something not human...it's diabolical in its purest sense. Hades cannot be worse than what was done to her.

The problem with national media coverage is that the only people that would watch it, are the people that already know and care.

The vast majority actively do NOT want to know. IMO

I just watched WTVD (Raleigh, NC) live stream of their 5 pm News.

Kelli O'Hara gave an update from the court house in Smithfield, Johnston County, NC re the Jonathan Richardson trial.

Her report was in line with her tweets today.

There were several snippets of the nurse who testified that Richardson said he had to go to his truck. She ran after him and detained him. She said she grabbed him by the throat and could have ripped out his esophagus.

She also said she told a LE officer to give her his gun and she would end this right now (with Richardson). {not verbatim}

I assume WTVD will post an article and the video from the news later.

However, this will probably be on again on the 6 pm News. Here's a Link to WTVD's "live" news feed:

I'm sure this link has been given here before this and before this again, but here it is once more. Bless the heart of that nurse. She couldn't just stand there & watch that monster walk out. She did just a smidgen of what she wanted to do -- and prolly what the rest of us would like to do or see done -- and I am glad she did. Maybe she scared him just a little bit.

Anyway, here 'tis:

I completely agree. This case is so disturbing that most folks would rather not be informed. That is unfortunate. However, if we are repulsed we have the choice not to view live streaming and media reports. But I sincerely believe we should at least be given that option. This trial deserves better coverage and reporting. Teghan Skiba deserves that.

They should have been involved in Tehgan's life.
It has amazed me that her Mother's boyfriend had free access to Tehgan to torture and abuse her for over 10 days, when her grandparents, were a few yards away.

The Grandparents, must have known that their daughter was away in training and that Tehgan was being watched by their daughter's new boyfriend in their very own backyard.?

They did not check on her?

I do hope that they will be forced to testify in this trial.

I'm not sluething them, but I want to hear what these grandparents will say.

I don't understand any of this, unless they were ALL into drugs.

Regardless, being into drugs and torturing a 4 year old gets into a whole nother level of depravity. One that makes me think that there really is a devil.
Because only a demon infused human could do this. IMO.

Hi, Kali:

The grandparents living in the home near the shed are not maternal.

Jonathan Richardson was living in a shed behind his grandparents' home.

It is difficult to understand how they did not notice any thing strange going on in the shed area. I would think they would have heard a child screaming at least.

But if you can reach just one person who will be horrified enough not to turn the other way if they suspect a child is being abused it's worth it. Seeing this may be what will give someone the courage to speak up to save a child the next time.

I totally get what you are saying Linda7NJ, but I absolutely feel this should be covered. I work in animal rescue and it's the same thing with animal abuse. If we can reach just one person it's worth it.

Good Morning, Peeps!

What new horrors will be witnessed today? I guess someone from UNC Hospital, and maybe the M.E. and the autopsy?

I love love that nurse...

I want to go hug her. I know here at WS we should be against vigilantism, but I can't blame her for that. She assaulted him, which is awesome. Then asked for a gun to shoot him! I'm kind of surprised the county she was in, the officer didn't offer to assist. (Nothing against Jo Co, there ares some good good people there).

Has anyone out there got a good tweet source?

Thanks!

Okay, this may sound a bit off or something, but this just came to mind as I was reading everyones posts on 'live/no live feed'. Watch trial/can't watch trial. A couple weeks ago Michael Vick was supposed to speak at the greater Raleigh chamber of commerce 'evening of champions'. I was involved in the protest of that event with a group, 'the positive pitbull'. Over 75,000 signatures were collected on a petition against MV speaking at the event. A lot of people I came into contact with said something like 'he did his time for dog fighting' blah blah blah. I said 'dog fighting was the least of his crimes' and went on to explain the brutal crimes he committed in the torture and murder of dogs. Many people had no idea MV had done anything but back a dog fighting ring. As I was reading this discussion I thought, the same way MV was able to cover up the real crimes he committed, by avoiding trial, avoiding the details, Richardson would be able to do if no one hears what happened to this little girl, Teghan. Richardsons says 'she fell off the bed' & 'I disciplined her for bed-wetting the same way I was punished' and a segment of society can move along, secure in the idea 'these things don't happen here'. We live in rural Johnston County, where Teghan was murdered. I have never been able to drive/ride along these rural roads now without looking at people's out-buildings and wondering 'what could be happening in there?' I scan the countryside for ANYTHING that might appear a bit off. When I walk with my dogs I'm always looking and listening for anything....
