I don't understand why this little child was not checked on by the people who owned the property. I believe the couple are the grandparents of the alleged assailant (pardon the expression). If someone has a child on MY property, you can bet I am going to be checking on that child, especially if its common knowledge that my grandson who is babysitting is cuckoo. They cannot be without blame in this. We need to start watching out for all the children!

Exactly, Little laces! His grandmother even said that she herself was afraid of him. Now what would you do? With a little 4 y/o in that shed in your backyard, on your property (as you said).

I wonder if any neighbors were close by -- I think their property was about 17 acres or more, so maybe they were very isolated... So did they just hope for the best, or did they just not give a dayam? It's just an outrage and whatever -- I can't think of a word.

I don't want to think about what the pictures/film might show, but these poor jurors must see whatever it is. I'm sure both the PT and the DT and prolly the judge have already viewed the material, and the judge would prolly not allow duplications, but it is evidence and it must be a part of the trial, IMO. I would imagine the PT is saying it is "piling-on," but it must be shown. Oh, those poor jurors.

A side thought about those jurors: I would think that being a juror in this trial would prolly be grounds for peremptory or cause strikes during jury selection for a trial for murder or rape should they be called. Furthermore, just imagine ever having to go up into a jury box again after this...

Smithfield, N.C. — The injuries to 4-year-old Teghan Skiba were so severe that emotions overtook the seasoned Johnston County sheriff's deputy responding July 16, 2010, to UNC Hospitals, where doctors and nurses were doing everything possible to save the dying child's life.

"It immediately brought tears to my eyes. It's the most horrifying thing I've ever seen done to a human being – especially a child," Deputy Matt DeSilva – now with the Wake County Sheriff's Office – told jurors Wednesday morning on the eighth day of testimony in Jonathan Douglas Richardson's capital murder trial.

On Wednesday, the detective investigating the case at the time was overcome with emotion as he told the jury what happened when he saw the little girl's injuries.

"The doctor then rolled Teghan over to her side so I could see her back, the injuries to her back, ah ... (deep breathe and long pause) ... but due to ... I just couldn't bare to look at it anymore," Det. Matt DeSilva said.

As DeSilva wiped the tears from his eyes, a recess was called over his emotions. When the jury left the courtroom, DeSilva told the judge it was the worst thing he has ever seen in his life.

Gawd help me, I want him to go to prison and just be torn apart by the other inmates. Jail violence horrifies me often, I hate the idea of people being ganged up on in ANY situation. Not with this one, let them have at him.

hey - I am a die-hard liberal - don't believe in the death penalty - always try to find some sliver of goodness in the lowest of the low- and I hope this guy gets torn apart by cellmates and survives just long enough to make it to his final walk on death row

My thoughts exactly, Ranchgirl! Who is she? His female doppelganger or what? Is she a DT assistant? Even if they are laughing at something entirely unrelated to testimony, it is in very poor taste on her part, and she certainly isn't helping him out at all (as if).

I'm heartbroken that so few are following this case. While I understand the nature of the case is disturbing, it pains me to think that her story is not being told. I want the whole world to know what this monster did to her.

I have been following this case too, and it saddens me that nothing is being told. Child abuse is so horrible, and this poor child suffered greatly. What upsets me the most is, there was one person who could have helped her, but chose to turn her back and walk away. I try and go to the courthouse when I can and watch the trial, if for no other reason than to support Tegan.

Don't misinterpret though. I am well aware of this trial going on. I check in on this thread now and then, but I cannot handle the details. I was well aware of Shaniya Davis' murderer's trial as well, but couldn't/wouldn't follow that in detail.

I don't need to see and hear the details of this child's torture to be aware of child abuse. There is no reason to go down into the abyss and suffer. It's just too much for some people to bear.

I do have one question for you who are following. Where is Teghan's mother and what is she charged with? I can't find anything in the court calendars. I heard she's facing some trivial charge(s). Please tell me that ain't so!!
