Agatha - I Just found the info at MSNBC. The Lacrosse players DID NOT specifically request black strippers. They requested 'white or hispanic dancers.' It was the 'escort' service's decision to send the two black women.

I am not suggesting that the team's culpability is on a par with the accuser and Nifong. Poor judgement ranks lower on the badness scale than outright illegality. I am merely suggesting that this trainwreck was originally set in motion by the actions of the players. Does the term "asking for trouble" ring a bell? I understand that prudence, care, personal responsibility and character have all gone out with the buggy whip, but natural consequences still follow personal behavior in this world. 'Nuff said.

What about the 88 DUKE teachers that convicted the players and applauded wanted posters that were placed around campus with the player's pictures on them. Will they apologize? Nope. What? Well according to one of them, because racism still exists in the world. What a bigoted piece of trash she is.

Davidson recently wrote an opinion piece defending her signing of the "listening" letter, noting that it was "not addressed to the police investigation," but rather "focused on racial and gender attitudes all too evident" after the alleged rape. She explained that the letter had merely "decried prejudice and inequality in the society at large."

This is beyond ridiculious, the charges need to be dropped and someone needs to be paying some serious punative damages to these young men.

And we wonder why victims of real sexual assault don't come forward????

I agree. The boys deserve all of their costs associated with the case refunded -- including legal fees. Plus, they deserve gigantic punitive damages. Real $$ -- not just restitution and damages charged to people who don't have the money to pay the boys. I think Duke University should pay some $$ too. They failed to stand behind the boys from the get go.

Nifong and the accuser need to be put in prison for a good long time, and Nifong should be disbarred permanently. I'm sure there are others who contributed to this debacle who should be punished, too. Nifong may be the top dog, but he's not the only dog in this race. Other lawyers worked on the case, too, and they are held to the same ethical standards that Nifong is.

Amen! Nifong needs to be disbarred forever! The accuser needs to be put in jail right along side of Nifong.

I agree that Duke should pay some money toward repairing these young men's images. Along with Nifong and everyone else. The accuser won't have to pay a dime though.....

It is disgusting. These profs really give higher education a bad name. I also heard one of the boys on the team had his good grade reduced to an "F" after the incident. He was not even one of the accused. He protested formally and his grade was raised to a "D" (thanks a lot) with the University saying it had been an error in calculation.

Don't even get me started on this one! We chose to live in Durham for years because we enjoyed the diversity but eventually moved because EVERYTHING in Durham becomes a race issue. Nifong pandered to this victim and her supporters to get elected, pure and simple. That he still clings to the dregs of this case is just pathetic. For the Duke 88, what a bunch of freaking hipocrites they are. They sit up there in their ivory towers at Duke and mouth platitudes about racial inequities etc while accepting their paychecks that are subsidized by the same rich white folks they are so quick to condemn. I have worked with Head Start and similiar agencies for over 20 years and I damn sick and tired of people (of any race) who will not go out and work to make a real difference in the lives of poor people ih their community and then either think the solution is to throw money at people or simply talk the talk and NEVER walk the walk. I hope these three boys sue everyone in Durham that they can think of. But sadly, that will never take this past year of anguish back , they will never be the same kids they were before last march. As for the alleged victim, I think she must have substance abuse or mental health issues. She needs treatment as well as punishment for bringing false charges. JMO :banghead:

Good post. I totally agree with you. Don't forget that the accuser should be prosecuted, too. I think that they should also file a lawsuit against her. I know that they won't see any money; however, perhaps, Jesse Jackson can step in and make restitution. He made sure that he was in NC when the press was there. I believe that he also offered to pay the woman's college tuition.

For years, large universities ignored complaints of sexual assaults by athletes, in essence blaming and even punishing the complainant and protecting the drawing power of high profile players.

If Duke overcompensated in the opposite direction, that is unfortunate, but punishing the university financially here will set a dangerous precedent.

I agree Nova, but I can tell you that it will adversely affect the university as well. Its off the table as far as my son is concerned and that's too bad. He had been considering it.

Great post. I think the accuser should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. An example needs to be made of her.
