I have seen this email many different times.
The problem with it is it has misinformation.
I check everything like that with snopes.com and of course, this
is a real missing child case.
 
Can someone please notify the LE that this girl is not in NAMUS.
 
Anyone can enter the info into NaMus.

I will do it.

I know this case is real, it just is the email info has been corrupted over time.
 
A very large group on Face Book is trying to help make a difference in finding a little girl whose abductor was found dead without the litte girl. This reporter was so moved, that he felt the plight of this missing child and other missing children should have their stories spread far and wide. There are now over 800,000 members in this group. The group now has over 900,000 people in it. Although, I think a lot of it is spamming and people there for other purposes, unfortunately. But still, if even half are there for the right reason, that's a ton of people who know about Reachelle's case!
 
this case baffles me...i wonder if LC accidentally hurt her and then disposed of her body....but felt so guilty that he committed suicide?
this poor little sweetie was gone for over a week before reported missing....how does that happen???

and are we sure that the LC's mother wasn't close with Reachelle? Maybe the mother took her from time to time...who knows.
 
Anyone else find it odd that there are no listed unidentified remains for North Dakota? None on NAMUS or Doe Network. Weird.
 
I wish there was more info out about this Leigh Cowen guy. From what I read, I get the sense that he was very close to Reachelle, treating her in a fatherly manner. I find it hard to swallow that he would intentionally hurt the child if he cared that much for her (Although how many times have we seen mothers/fathers/families harm their children though?).

What was going on in Leigh's life? He's 22, is he at school? Working? Dated anyone prior to Reachelle's mother? I don't know many 22 yr old guys who love babysitting/hanging out with young kids etc. Was he social or more isolated than his peers?

I would hope that he gave the child to someone and she's living under another name somewhere, safe and sound.

However, thats an awful lot of planning to do without involving anyone else for this young guy who seems to be from small town, ND.

Another interesting note is that Reachelle was fairly old when she was taken...she would definitely have memories of her prior life if she is being raised somewhere else. Perhaps as she ages and remembers more about her early years, she will reach out via internet etc.

Law enforcement officials pulled out all the stops to search for Reachelle Smith in the days, weeks, and months after the Minot girl disappeared nearly four years ago.

And the effort continues today.

"If it were me," Sgt. Jason Sundbakken of the Minot PD said. "I`d expect people to keep looking until they found her. And that`s what I intend to do."

Only this time the search has moved high tech...with this new age-enhanced photograph of Reachelle that depicts her at her current age of seven years old.

Minot police are hoping modern technology can help to crack the case of a local girl missing since 2006.

Three-year-old Reachelle Marie Smith disappeared May 17, 2006, from the apartment she lived in near Oak Park in northwest Minot. Police conducted massive searches of areas in and around Minot in hopes of finding a clue about the girl's whereabouts, but she was not found. Now, 3 1/2 years later, a picture produced through a joint effort with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offers a new glimmer of hope in the case.

Minot Girl Missing 5 Years

Five years ago on May 16, 2006, Reachelle Marie Smith went missing. She was 3 years old at the time and staying at her aunts home in Minot. She was last seen sleeping on a couch around 1:00 a.m.

A family friend and a suspect in Reachelle`s disappearance, Leigh Cowen, was found dead a few days later. Cowen committed suicide at a refuge north of Minot. An exhaustive search of the area ensued for months.

Does anyone know how Leigh's behavior was before his suicide? I have found nothing to describe his behavior after this little girl went missing.
