This is a strange one. It was one and still is that I thought a motive would have become apparent in fairly short order. Hmm.

I know, ilovechili, I just can't figure it out. The stabbing is personal, so that should help with 2 of the murders. But on the other hand, did he run out of bullets and had no choice but to use the knife? How can it be so difficult to determine the why of it all. Money, sex, revenge, spaced out on drugs, anger?

Or they suspect the motive but have not released it.

Yes I agree. Either it was overkill to hide an intent at one or two so kill the others present too out of necessity or plan. And probably relates to one of the usual basic reasons--drugs/money/revenge/personal as you say. I guess it could be just random but I don't buy it.

There is some connection here to someone that served some purpose, or through a third party.

Isaak's attorney, Rob Quick, declined to comment on the case.

"We're still trying to analyze all the evidence and information that's been presented to us as well," he said Wednesday.

Four attorneys are listed in court records for Isaak, including Quick, whom Isaak has retained, and criminal defense attorneys Bruce Quick, Luke Heck and Mark Friese of Vogel Law Firm in Fargo, to whom Quick reached out. Bruce Quick is a longtime criminal defense attorney and Rob Quick's father. Rob Quick is lead attorney, assisted by the others.

Isaak's preliminary hearing is set for August in Mandan, when he could enter pleas to his charges.

Accused murderer Chad Isaak pleads Not Guilty

Chad Isaak the Washburn man accused of killing four people in Mandan in April has waived his preliminary hearing that was scheduled for this coming Monday, August 12th.

Isaak submitted a not guilty plea, Morton County has set a two week trial for March 2-13 of 2020.

Isaak was to appear in court Monday for a preliminary hearing and possible arraignment, at which he could enter pleas. Defense attorney Rob Quick filed a waiver of appearance and a not guilty plea Thursday, and South Central District Judge Gail Hagerty granted the request Friday morning.

The Monday hearing is canceled. Hagerty set a jury trial for March 2-13 at the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan. Quick was not immediately available Friday morning for comment.

Isaak has been jailed since his April 4 arrest, held on $1 million bond at the Burleigh-Morton Detention Center in Bismarck. He is charged with four counts of murder, punishable by up to life in prison without parole.

No, not a lot of guts. It just means he wants the prosecution to prove their case, hence the trial.
