Nope they are not still together. He was incarcerated for a while for beating a guy with a baseball bat.

I believe he's out now, because Inside Edition chased him down to try and interview him.

IMO her defense will be that she was too afraid of him to talk. She will completely disregard the fact that if she had told he would have been locked up. And she will disregard the fact that he was locked up for a while and she could have told then.

I wonder if the DA has taken note of the fact that because he didn't pursue this arrest earlier someone else was harmed by this guy. If he had been locked up that other beating that resulted in charges wouldn't have happened.

How come they didn't charge the mother with child abuse? Wasn't there evidence that he had hit the kids before and she didn' t do anything about it? And she didn't kick him out?

I would have liked to have seen both charges applied: Murder 2 and Voluntary Manslaughter, and let the jury decide. But, if they can get a conviction on these charges, I hope the judge will stick it to Dustin. I hate that Charyse is getting off easy and IMHO it is easy.

I looked up the definition of "manslaughter" in Nebraska:

http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=28-707

That's my problem with the indictment. I'm fine (sort of) with manslaughter, but think it should be VOLUNTARY rather than INVOLUNTARY. Involuntary is the death of someone caused during the commission of a NON-FELONY. Child abuse resulting in the death of a child is a Class III felony.

I agree! I would have been happier with 2nd degree murder or voluntary manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter seems like too little. Still it is better than nothing.

After 4.5 years, something is better than nothing. If one of the charges (for Dustin) carries 20 to life, surely we won't see his smug face for a while IF he's convicted. :please:

I think Charyse is getting off way too easy. Those precious baby girls were her responsibility to protect from her monster bf.

I just can't wrap my mind around an Involuntary Manslaughter charge. She died as a result of child abuse committed (allegedly) by Dustin - that's a felony. Involuntary manslaughter is when the death occurs by an act that isn't a felony.

New Update to Juliette's Story Coming Up on the Next INSIDE EDITION
to air Thursday 01/17/2013 & in other areas on Friday 01/18/2013!! The people demand justice!

Actually, Juliette is the one that was harmed because they didn't pursue an arrest in the baseball bat case.

The baseball bat incident occurred a month BEFORE Juliette died.
The baseball bat incident which involved all THREE of the people in the home when Juliette died.
Does that make sense?

So I guess AFTER seeing Dustin beat up a guy with a baseball bat... and seeing her baby girls were afraid of him...
Charyse decided he would still make a fine boyfriend?

Really if the baseball bat incident had been charged faster, Juliette's death may have been prevented.
Also, ONLY Dustin was charged for that, while Charyse was also involved.

If only they had arrested Dustin and Charyse shortly after the baseball bat incident... Juliette would still be here.

More GOOD NEWS!!! :woohoo: Just posted on Justice For Juliette's Facebook page:

"1/18/13 UPDATE; Dustin Michael Chauncey was sentenced today in Boulder Colorado to 30 months in prison for unrelated charges! Now our family can rest easy that he will not be free on the streets to hurt anyone else until he is tried for Juliette Serenity Geurts murder in Nebraska."

Also a news article: http://www.9news.com/rss/story.aspx?storyid=310952

Man indicted 4 years after girl's death

KUSA - A Colorado man who is potentially facing jail time is now facing charges for the death of a Nebraska girl more than four years ago.

(snipped)

Chauncey is scheduled to be sentenced Friday afternoon in Boulder County on weapons and drug charges.

Hall is concerned he could be released from jail before officials in Nebraska issue a warrant for his arrest.

Oh please....keep him locked up now that you have him....don't let him get away this time. He is a coward and a baby killer. You won't find him if he thinks he can disappear and avoid being charged with Juliette's death. The mother is no better. Did LE ever find the rest of those "sleeping pills" that allowed her to sleep while her daughter was beaten to death?
IMHO

It is good to know that at last, these two will have to answer for their horrific crimes. As others have already expressed, I don't feel involuntary manslaughter is a sufficient charge. It is also a shame that Charyse isn't charged with felony child abuse. So much credit goes to Juliette's family who refused to give up.

Why wasn't Charyse charged with abuse/neglect?

I was going to mention this earlier and forgot.
I believe it was said on Juliette's page that Charyse couldn't be charged with neglect because the statute of limitations had run out.

I believe the statute on abuse is now 7 years, but it may not have been 4 years ago.

They were charged under the laws and statutes from 4 years ago...
So if they recently extended the statute of limitations, that wouldn't apply to them.

Does that make sense? :seeya:

I'd also like to point you to a new missing person's case.

I freaked out when I saw it because I thought it said Charyse not Charles.

But Charles Geurts is missing. No reason to think he's related to Juliette, no proof he's not.

He is the only other "Geurts" to be on WS though, so I thought I'd point it out.

I'll check out the MP case. It is an unusual last name.

As for the statute of limitations running out - that is most likely what happened. I'll do some digging on that. However, if that is the case, LE and the DA should be ashamed of themselves. There should be no statute of limitations when said abuse/neglect led to her being murdered. :banghead:

BBM: I heartily agree that child abuse/neglect leading to murder should be a serious crime carrying severe punishment. There should be no statute of limitations in this case. Poor little sweetheart.

Who does she remind you of? :what:

Wow, that is a striking resemblance. I thought it was CA for a minute.

I'm happy that there has been an indictment and we're one step closer to justice for Juliette. I agree with Bree...crimes like this should not carry a statute of limitations.

I'm glad you saw the news Jeanna! I was hoping you would. :woohoo:

Oh my goodness what a STRONG resemblance to Casey! They both make me :furious: Two little girls who were taken way too soon all while in the care of their "moms".

From J4J FB page:

"FRIDAY 01/18/13 NEW UPDATE ON INSIDE EDITION STORY airs Justice Served For Juliette? Two indicted by Grand Jury! Is there finally justice for little Juliette? The two-year-old was beaten to death inside her home but, incredibly, after four years, none of the adults present in the house had been charged."

MsFacetious, may I use (archive) the pic upthread of the indictment faces?

About the other Geurts, Charlie Geurts, I started a Case Archive for him as well. I thought I saw Charyse when I first saw the thread too!

That picture came from the Justice for Juliette page. :seeya:
I almost made one with CA and CG... but I just didn't have it in me to look at BOTH of them. :what: :panic:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw Charyse instead of Charles... really there is only one letter different.
It was WAY too close for me! Not to mention the location is where Juliette's paternal family is. :what:

Makes me sick to see this video of the so called "mother" crying...If she felt like this man was responsible why did she just move away and not do a darn thing? I feel like she is more than likely involved and now putting all blame on him.

This video is enough to make a person cry .. and it did. Love these people who have been so active in seeking justice for Juliette. The memorial at the end of the video was beautiful.
