Don't know if this is relevant, but the LV mayor is 81 years old. Some 81 yr olds are really "with it." Maybe it's time to retire.

I think the mayor was with it on concept (Las Vegas must open sooner than later), but not with it on implementation (no restrictions)

At the end of the day, I am going with more of a disconnect, than cognitive impairment. The mayor needs to realize that a full return to Las Vegas normal is going to be a slow process.

Anderson Cooper needs to realize that not everybody earns between 2-4 million dollars a year like him and can therefore for sustain a near total economic shut down ala Las Vegas indefinetly.

There have been at least 4,618 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nevada, according to a New York Times database. As of Sunday afternoon, at least 206 people had died.

Would like to see a plan to open hotels, casinos, food establishments (buffets) from LV owners.

Vegas is in trouble, between the social distancing rules (crowded craps tables), flying to get there, and many people don't have any money. Is it a good idea to play poker/black jack and pass cards around?

Even if they open up, I don't see people flocking there in great numbers any time in the near future. Plus, many of the sports are on hold.

I am just watching this now. It takes a minute or two to start up.

I wish thing were back to normal. I could use a nice vacation over at Treasure Island.

Things are not going to be back to "normal" in Las Vegas for a very long time. My issues with hotels, are the air conditioning systems.

Unless they have determined that people who already have had COVID19 and are completely immune to COVID19, no one is going to be flocking to casinos or hotels. Until there is a vaccine.

Plus, everything we are taught not to do happens there. You are in crowds, touch machines and cards, etc. I don't know how you can just reinvent all that. I don't even know anything about the air conditioning. I guess that could recycle the virus. And then you have the dirty cash, the air travel, and big auditoriums, and crowded restaurants. Everything we do involves human contact.

The President, who owns a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, asked Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, whether he had made a decision on opening his state "and the Strip, etc., etc., with all your hotels."

Sisolak said that casino management is "very concerned about doing it right" and he is working closely with "our mutual friend Sheldon Adelson" and others.

"We want to welcome everybody back to Las Vegas at the right time. We're getting there," Sisolak said.

A Las Vegas re-opening, Trump said, "will be a big thing."

The Washoe County Dept of Public Health (northern Nevada including Reno and Lake Tahoe) is reporting this morning a distinct increase in newly -positive SARS-Cov-2 cases. Their contact tracing said it was clearly from the Easter weekend when numerous people admitted to breaking the self-isolation and gathering in groups, with or without facemasks.

Seems like if you break social isolization right now, you can clearly expect to get more viral spread.

We are not out of the woods, yet, folks.

This makes me even more dedicated to limiting my outing to only those necessary and strictly observing mask, handwashing, and at least a 6 foot radius when I am out there in the public realm.

So, the President owns a hotel on the Strip. No idea why he is pushing to reopen, eh?
04/28 morning update:
4805 cases
219 deaths
So far, 40,119 people have been tested, but it’s likely that the true number of people with the virus is higher, as a statewide testing shortage has limited the number of people who can be screened.

Venetian to have EMTs, thermal cameras upon reopening

The Venetian will have a team of emergency medical technicians available 24 hours a day to respond to suspected cases of the coronavirus when the property reopens.

Las Vegas Sands Corp., which operates the hotel-casino, announced updated protocols Tuesday for when its Las Vegas properties reopen, sometime after May 31. The protocols, named The Venetian Clean Commitment, include more than 800 guidelines, including the use of thermal cameras, personal protective equipment for employees and enforcing social distancing guidelines.

The resort will have a team of 25 EMTs with one-third on site every day, the company said. If staff is notified of a suspected case of COVID-19, the guest will be directed to medical care by the EMTs, and the property will conduct additional cleaning and disinfecting protocol in areas where the guest had been.

much more at link

FYI these are Adelson properties

ETA: LOL Guess they are the one scooping up all the hand sanitizer, wipes, etc.
Every hotel suite will include a personal care kit with hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, latex gloves and a personal face mask.

Thermal screening is of dubious use in testing for infection.

I read an article in early March noting that airport screening for elevated temperatures was not eliminating very many people and scientists were doubting it's utility.

A recent study also notes that 65% of PCR-Positive patients did not have elevated temperatures.

Also, note that you never actually see the number on the temperature guns used. The person performing it is the only one that sees it, and most of them read in C not F, so it's easier to fail to recognize an elevated temp. You can also reduce a fever by taking anti-inflammatory OTC medications.

Temp screening is not going to spare casinos from those who are potentially infected or those who seek to avoid being detected.

Smoke & mirrors then?

Nothing is perfect. Doing what they think is best. Just a couple of comments:
Glad they will have EMTs, but it's sort of after the fact - after how many were infected by the sick person.
Also, hotels will have a personal care kit, but who's going to monitor that they are used? I can easily see some thinking this is a joke. Also, I would not wish to be a cleaning person after someone who used a room.

Yeah, and don’t forget people tend to drink a bit there, so not being as careful as they should.

Tuesday:
The number of coronavirus cases recorded in Nevada has reached 4,805, according to the latest figures released Tuesday morning.
The new figure is a jump of 115 cases from the previous report of 4,690 cases from the state's Department of Health and Human Services. Health officials in Nevada are reporting 225 deaths linked to COVID-19 statewide. Number of COVID-19 cases in Nevada passes 4,800; 12 new deaths in Clark County

I'm watching/interested in northern Nevada. The other day I saw a news blurb that a homeless person in Reno had tested positive. I had a very similar thought as you did here, that the count is about to increase dramatically in Reno...

My Mom lives in Reno.
When I visited in the 1st week of March, there was a parent who helped coach an after school soccer team at the elementary school, who tested positive for CV. This was around March 7th.

There were staff members at my Mom's Retirement Complex who had to take 2 weeks off work to quarantine with their kids at home, and the elementary school closed.

I was there until March 11th, but had to leave because the retirement Community shut down and wouldn't allow us visitors to stay. When I left, I took a shuttle from ATLANTIS, a major casino. And it looked like a ghost town.

But when I arrived, on the 7th, just days earlier, that same casino was bustling.
