We can only hope, although for some reason I don't think even that would be looked upon as 'positive'.

As far as the poster, I'm not sure how updated that one is.

Honestly, what are you basing this comment on? Their baby vanished on October 4, 2011. The last time they sat down with LE was October 8, 2011. They talked to them right before the Dr. Phil show, which IMO, was so they could say they talked to LE before the Dr. Phil show.

Now, five months later there's a website. Not a lot of positive there.

Innocent parents don't act like this when their child has been kidnapped, abducted, or murdered unless they've had a hand in it. If I am wrong, PLEASE point those parents out to me.

Because there is some sort of manual on how 'innocent' parents act, say and do in situations like this, right?

There is nothing the parents can do at this stage that will be positive for some folks, that's my point. It's getting proven every day on this forum.

The Irwins have refused to talk to LE since early October. They also failed to capitalize on the media's interest in this case and let it fall by the wayside. I can't think of any other innocent parents of a missing child who acted like that.

So if a guilty party follows this DOJ guideline, that would make them innocent?

Even in this guide it says "there is no right or wrong way to respond; there is no right or wrong way to feel".

http://www.missingkids.com/en_US/publications/fam_surv.pdf

I was thinking about that as well. How many parents follow certain things 'by the book' so to speak and wind up guilty later on? Using the thought that 'if they do everything that the public expects of them, they are innocent' is very faulty logic.

i doubt very much that anywhere in that document it states: Refuse to be questioned by LE when requested. it states the exact opposite actually.

as this discussion is OT to this thread ("NEW WEBSITE FOR LISA") , maybe a new thread should be started re: a manual for families with missing kids and this discussion moved there?

Unfortunately, somehow I don't think even that is going to make a difference...just another thread to argue. :banghead:

Talking about the website itself, do some folks really have an issue with it?

I don't have an issue with the website itself and, if it actually COULD bring about the answer to what happened to Lisa, that would be fantastic.

The comments I had were negativity towards not having a REAL website out there for Lisa. There is another website besides this, and several Facebook pages. The other website hasn't been updated for months and it's been 2 weeks that this site came about and hasn't changed a bit since then. If the person TRULY wants to help find Lisa, why would they bother to put up a bare bones website with not much on it? Uploading photos, for example, to a website is child's play and probably the simplest part of doing a website. And, vlpate is correct in how easy it is to make a website. ANYONE can do it nowadays, it is so simple. So, there is no excuse for this!

I guess what really irks me and makes me tremendously sad is that no one seems to really care enough about this little girl to put the effort in to find out what happened to her, except LE, and that is their job.

I have a little granddaughter who is 8 months old, and I can tell you without a doubt in the world that I would be out there every minute of every day and FIND something to do to bring her home. I would never stop. WHERE are the supporters of DB and JI besides here on WS? Don't they have any family that cares enough to get involved?

While it is true that none of know specifically what the parents are doing or what anyone else is doing, why do we hear about other cases and what they are doing to find their loved ones? Why do we know about them and not these people? It can only be that they aren't doing anything to find Lisa except be rock stars to national media. Why can't the parents get onto the website and update it? Is is SUCH an inconvenience that they can't even do this? :maddening:

The website itself is fine. It could be designed much better. HOWEVER. . .(you knew it was coming)

One has to ask why is it designed so poorly.

The site claiming to be the "official" site has no "about us." It's not linked to any official organization, etc. We learned it is owned by someone who is connected to the benefactor, so it is most likely the legit "official" page. But anybody just coming across it can not tell that just by looking at the site. As far as they know it was just created by anybody.

Next, the reward. There are no conditions. That makes me question it's legitimacy. They can put whatever they want as a reward amount, but without the conditions clearly laid out, it is bogus and can't be enforced. RR spoke to this. . .he said that is the case and that the money is not in any account set up as a trust, which is how it is supposed to be done with missing rewards.

Nowhere on the site is the tip phone number listed. It is hidden in a link and it is on the pdf folder. Some people can't open pdf's and clicking on links on a website can identify you. If they really want someone to feel comfortable calling in an anonymous tip, the number should be listed on the site. . .no link clicking.

The pictures and videos are "coming soon." There is just no excuse for this. There are hundreds of pictures of Lisa on the web and the videos are on YouTube. They are readily available to anybody that wants access to them. Just do ONE simple Google search and the webmaster would have all the material they would need for that page.

And lastly, the owner of this site also owns another site. His other site comes up as number 2 under a simple Google search for the subject. It is second to a wiki page for the same subject. Number 2 is dang good! He must know a thing or two about Google Search and driving traffic to his site. This Lisa Irwin site. . .the night it went up came up on page 7 for "Lisa Irwin" Google search. Today. . .I went through 30 pages of Google search and still couldn't find it. 30 PAGES!!!! Who the heck is going to Google "Lisa Irwin" and page through 30+ pages of search results (not actual websites. . .30 actual pages of Google search. . .with 10 sites on each search page.) That's 300+ websites and I still didn't find it. Who knows how much further I had to keep going. To me, that's intentional. It's buried on purpose. . .there is no other explanation why it would be soooo far back on the search engine. Especially, considering this guy owns a website that comes up as #2.

ETA-Make that ALL 43 pages. . .it doesn't come up at all when searching "Lisa Irwin"

"Baby Lisa" google search. . .49 pages and this website does not come up.

It's akin to making a missing poster and taping it to the bottom of your car. :(

Here is what I think:

I think they did not create the website themselves. I think they probably got someone to do it for them or someone who knows them offered up their services, asking them to put up a message.

I agree with most of your points on how it is designed. I would also agree that the feedback section is for comments such as yours, listing out what should be up there, tips on how they can improve the site. I would hope that some of the comments on this thread about how to improve the site would go in the feedback section there.

I say give it few weeks or a month. If the site stays stagnant and doesn't take into account the tips that have been sent to them (and you'll know it because you sent the tip), then those who are criticizing the site are 100% right, it is just lip service meant as a token effort to appease the public.

That's a great idea! I am going to go make comments about this right now. Thanks for bringing that idea to the forefront!

Let's see what this website is all about, shall we? I just posted my comment and it says it is "awaiting moderation". There are NO comments listed from anyone as of yet. So, they are either all still in moderation, moderation didn't accept them, or, I was the first one to comment. This last statement isn't too difficult to accept considering that this website has not been advertised except for Facebook. Where are all the supporters? They should have pages of comments in 2 weeks time of putting this up.

And, since I doubt that this comment will be posted by them, I will include below what I wrote, just so that you all can see what I said.

"Why has this website even been made? It is no different than any of the other websites out there that have been put up and ignored. It’s been 2 weeks since you made this site. How about putting some REAL information on it and advertise it. What about photos of Lisa? What about more than 3 links? What about having the parents take an active part in this site, if they truly do want to find Lisa? This site makes the parents look even worse because there is one statement from them about Lisa…ONE! This makes them look guiltier than ever. INNOCENT parents do anything and everything to find their child. Look at the thousands of websites out there for missing children….take an example from them. If this is about that innocent child, then make it about her and not just lip service. Please, for the sake of Lisa!

i did a search for it earlier when i wanted to see if anything had been changed (it hasn't) and i couldn't find in on the first few pages... i was mind-boggled. i had to find the thread and then click the link.

kinda shocking.

no-- i thought someone posted a few days ago they'd sent in a comment... but i can't find the post now...

I do believe someone upthread said they sent them a suggestion a few days ago. They may not post any comments at all.

i think it was constructive criticism to make the site better iirc... but as i said, nothing's changed so they are not seemingly even bothering to update/change as suggested :(
