I'm in NH and all my news will cover is market basket and the severe weather outbreak. Ugh.
Watching NECN live after the news broke, I just kept thinking "stupid tornado". Ha, ha. Thankfully, with no advance warning and 65 buildings damaged in Revere, Massachusetts, there were only a couple of minor injuries.

and all but one of them implying there was willful participation on her part, even after the news today.

very strange, they were not particularly sympathetic towards her or her mom at all, outside of mentioning that yes she is a minor and there is still a crime here regardless.

I hope they apologize tomorrow after they hear about the container.

I can see this sketch coming from someone describing a heavier set eye. BUt really they are describing a heavy brow. things like that plus possible lighting, situational, mask or no? SO many variables. TO me the sketch seemed rather vanilla? But maybe it helped or maybe something else Abby provided led to him. I am interested to hear when it becomes public.

My heart hurts for what this family has been through. But united again, I wish them strength. IF they can weather what they did then they can weather anything. Literally - ANYTHING.

Totally agree, tlyca. The agony Abby and her family endured every day for more than 9 months is over. Abby is home. She's alive! Everything else pales in comparison.

It seems like LE usually assumes that missing teens are runaways unless proven otherwise.

Gary heidnik kidnapped women and kept them in his basement. One of the women was able to gain release and escape by fooling him. He slowly started to trust her and when she was finally out of the chains she ran to her family who then called police. I could see Abby being a strong woman and smart woman like this.

How far apart are the houses? Has anyone made a map yet plotting a route?

When I first saw the news I did a google maps directions map for Gorham and Conway and it said 49 miles. For adult drivers that's not really a big deal but for 14 year old girls that might as well be 490 miles. Or 4,900 miles, especially if she had no idea where she was (and she probably didn't). Truly my heart just aches for this girl. We have 6 daughters, two of which are 16 and 15 and I can't even imagine how crazy I'd be if this happened to one of them.

This is an interesting idea to me because we do not see this use of containers like this here. If this is not unusual there it helps a great deal. As a treehugger :D this use of old storage container or railway car as very interesting. It is something I see on facebook, not something I see in my own backyard.

I live in Maine on the New Hampshire border near Abby. My neighbor has one on his property and last year I noticed three for sale down the hill.

Sorry. What container?
Is this verified, or a rumor? ???

How could she possibly walk home from his house, especially in her condition? His city is about an hour from her hometown.

Did someone give her a ride home?

Seriously doubtful she walked to her house from his. I suspect she was dropped off by someone near where she was kidnapped. Pure speculation but, by now, whoever (all) was involved in keeping her captive, knew exactly who she was and where she was from, from all the media attention.

Wandering somewhat from the topic:

They're way cheaper than having something built, and because they're meant to withstand severe weather on the deck of a ship, they're watertight and sturdy.

Google turned up several pages of listings of places that sell in New Hampshire. I think this is the one my friend bought from: http://www.aranbox.com/containers_for_sale_nh.html This is their list of uses:
Storage:

Landscaping, agricultural, livestock supplies
Paint, chemicals, tires, hazardous materials
Recreational field sports equipment
Files, books, business records
Tools, equipment, tack supplies
Furniture, appliances, auction items
Vehicles of all shapes and sizes
Portable generators
Police/Fire/EMT/Search and Rescue (SAR)
Working Space:

Modular office or shop
Military barracks or command center
Guard shack
Mobile field office
Communications shelter or command van
Welding shop or sandblasting booth
Concession stand
Hunting shelter
Driveway or portable storage unit

At least one news source has reported that he had a shipping container used as a storage unit behind his trailer, and that was where she was kept. But no confirmation from LE.

The part about using it as a shooting range appears to be a rumor based on a neighbor's comment.

It seems like LE usually assumes that missing teens are runaways unless proven otherwise.

Yet they never acted that way in this case, compared to others. Abigail got far more LE involvement than most ever do.

I wonder if this guy saw all the stuff on the news about Ariel Castro and decided he wanted to have a girl locked up at home too. Not all perverts and rapists are murderers and thank goodness for that.

IMO there was lights and maybe even a TV in the shed or I would think Abby might have been a little less mentally stable upon returning. Solitary confinement with no stimulation for 9 months makes people literally lose their minds IMO.

The end of July is the hottest time of the year in NH and I imagine it started to get really hot and unbearable in the shed and perhaps that led to Abby becoming deteriorating, becoming dehydrated and losing weight. I think he noticed this and decided to let her go.

I think after a certain amount of time he realized she was really suffering and he actually has some type of conscience in his warped sick mind.

Why do you think it couldn't have been a tip based on the sketch?

I think, even tho the sketch was bad IMO, it could have been a combination of the sketch, and the mention of the blue/black pickup truck, along with what neighbors knew of him as being 'crazy Nate' and the fact that they knew he had a sound proof bunker. IMO one of the neighbors pieced it all together.

Either that or he was so careless that he neglected to cover Abby's eyes and she was able to describe her surroundings.

Wow wow wow! How many 14-year-olds would have the strength to live through this, I wonder. I'm so happy she is home and now an arrest.

I don't put much stock in the picture. Trauma or fear could influence that. I do wonder if DNA played a part. Has NK been arrested in the past? I could see how a match could be made that way. Along with his apparent political beliefs, I can see a very quiet, careful media disinformation campaign while LE plans on an arrest.
