Circumstances of Discovery
A worker inspecting some nearby water towers came upon some human bones scattered in a 10-foot radius in a vacant lot of an oil field located approximately .6 miles north of 25121 Sierra Highway in Newhall.
A .25-caliber jacketed bullet was removed from the temporal area of her skull. She was a victim of the Sunset Strip serial killings. The suspect, Douglas Clark, was sentenced to death.

The UID is said to have a craniotomy but on further research that is not accurate.
The UID age range is above by 1 yr
The UID was deceased before the Oct 1st call was made. I question the date of these calls. Were they on an "Oct 1st" billing cycle and from a previous date? I did find that the to and from motel calls and the location of the UID were all within 100 miles.
I'm also not sure how she would have met up with Douglas Clark but if she ended up down there because of a prostitution ring/human trafficking it would not be totally unlikely for her to run into him. Looks like his spree was heavy during this time.
They are also both showing 4 fillings. Close but close enough to double check the accuracy of both dental records? Not sure

UID fillings - 3,14, 19, 30
Laureen - 14, 18, 19, 30

Bumping up for Laureen.

Two things have always bothered me about this case:

1. The Mom was an alleged owner/worker of a night club/restaurant. Was anyone from that place checked out? Where was this place located, and did the police check out the other employees there?

2. I find it very suspicious that the mother changed the phone number. She even moved away to Florida, yet she believes all this time that her daughter is alive? Just how in God's name did she ever expect her daughter to get in touch with her, if she changed her number and moved? What do we know about her background? Where was the father?

I have my own thoughts about this case, yet none my thoughts run in the direction that the girl was into prostitution or *advertiser censored*, at least not by her own doing.....

Wondering if this is a fact about making phone calls back in 1980s :

"....[COLOR=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84)] In 1980, calls could be charged to your own number by calling the phone company and entering a pin code. Doing this cost less than placing a collect call. However, Judith had absolutely no connections to anyone in California....." 1*

The part about entering a pin number , unless one knew the pin number they wouldn't be able to make that call. I wasn't aware of that procedure. Judith has no idea of anyone she knew in that California area. I'd like to know who knew that "password/pin # ". At 14 years of age I don't remember making any phone calls other than possibly a 'collect call' where you tell the operator your calling collect and someone on the other end of the line agrees to pay for the call . Interesting about needing to enter a pin # .

I definitely recall something like this in the 90s. I had a card from the phone company and a code to punch in.

Thing is if there was a required "pin / password" not everyone would know that pin associated to her particular number. To me that points to her being alive at the time of those calls. Not necessarily so but a strong possibility. I also wonder how high up the light bulbs were that someone could loosen them from the socket without say the aide of a step stool / ladder. If an older house the ceilings were probably pretty high a person would be relatively tall to be able to unscrew 2 / 3 floors of light bulbs, though not necessarily so, but would image one would need to be fairly tall to reach. And one more thing why go up the front hallway instead of the back ?
.
If this is the house it was built in 1910:

A Manchester girl has not been seen or heard from since her disappearance in 1980.

NH Cold Case Unit

-- Last seen alive: April 26 or 27, 1980
-- Case status: Missing person

Laureen Rahn, 14, was last seen alive the evening of April 26, 1980, or the early-morning hours of April 27, 1980.

Rahn's mother reported her missing at 3:45 a.m. April 27, 1980, police said.

Her mother told officers that she went out of town with a friend and her daughter asked to remain home. When the mother arrived home about 1:15 a.m., she found that the apartment's back door was open, the front door was unlocked and her daughter's friend was sleeping in her daughter's bed

Rahn's friend told police that she and Rahn had been drinking. She said Rahn had been in bed, but left the bedroom and took a pillow and blanket to sleep on a couch in another room.

Police said there were no signs of a struggle in the apartment. They said Rahn may have left the apartment willingly with the intent to return shortly thereafter as she did not leave with any clothing, money or personal items.

Rahn has not been seen or heard from since.

I looked but could not find a thread... I read her case and it sounded so creepy with the phone numbers she called and the Doctor and his wife..

Circumstances of Disappearance
Rahn was last seen at her mother's Merrimack Street apartment in Manchester during the evening hours of April 27, 1980. There were no clues at the apartment where she last was seen, and there was nothing to be learned from the two friends who had seen her within an hour of when she disappeared.

Laureen's mother found that her October 1980 phone bill included charges for three calls placed from Santa Monica, California on October 1. She immediately decided that Laureen must have placed the calls.
With the help of Santa Monica police, Rahn discovered that two of the calls were placed from a motel pay phone to a motel in nearby Santa Ana.
The third call was to a hotline for teens who had questions about sex. Police investigators contacted the doctor who ran the hotline, but apparently were unable to find out what he knew.
An investigator followed up on the hotline tip in 1985. A man identifying himself as a plastic surgeon answered the call. He said that numerous runaway girls occasionally visited his wife at their home. He also told the investigator that one of the young women may have been from New Hampshire.

An investigator visited California in 1986 and located the two motels involved in the October 1980 phone calls. Authorities said that one of the establishments may have been used by a child pornographer named "Dr. Z." Investigators were unable to link "Dr. Z" to the teen hotline. Authorities suspect that foul play was involved in Rahn's disappearance.

What's your theory?

Interesting find... I just had the local librarian look up the address and phone number for Judith R. In 1980. The address was 289 Hanover St. in Manchester NH. All the information I have seen stated that they lived on Merrimack St. (don't know the actual number). Picking a random address on Merrimack St. and it is less than a mile from Hanover St. Looking at google earth street view and it looks like the Hanover St. address is a 3-story apartment building with back doors. Not sure how this fits in but either the family had recently moved or the wrong street name was publicized, perhaps on purpose. I am having the librarian check for addresses and phone numbers in a 5 year range before and after 1980 just to see if any other addresses come up. I was also hoping for a phone number because I am very curious if the person who got that number after Judith got rid of it if they received any strange calls. Of course it's wishful thinking on my part that that same person still has that phone number since 1981 or whenever exactly Judith got rid of it.
289 Merrimack...

The clues to solving this case are right there in NH IMO, not in CA. I agree with some posters that the stories of the two friends from the night she disappeared sound quite fishy. Obviously she didnt go to CA overnight to end up in the "business". There are huge gaps in the story and the solution is most likely in her circle of friends and family.

The calls from Santa Monica are interesting and its simply too much of a coincidence to be entirely unrelated to the case to simply dismiss them, but I'm thinking more those were pranks or maybe even made by the perp(s) to generate some fake clues and send everyone on a wild goose chase.

I'm thinking this is solveable if her social life prior to her disappearance is dissected.
