Jury begins deliberations in fatal strangling case

Power back for a while and trying to catch up, the wind's crazy. I cannot believe, they didn't start till THREE PM?!?!?! Maybe they had power outages too.

Other than that, that court truly has been slower than molasses.o_Oo_Oo_O
For the love of Pete.
It might be tomorrow then, before a verdict is announced.

“FREEHOLD - Jury deliberations in the Sarah Stern murder trial began about 3 p.m. today.

The panel is considering whether Stern's childhood friend, Liam McAtasney, strangled the 19-year-old budding artist during a 2016 robbery and later dumped her body off the Route 35 bridge from Belmar to Neptune with the help of his roommate.

McAtasney, 21, of Neptune City, is charged with seven crimes, the most serious being murder.

If McAtasney is convicted of murder, and the jury finds that he committed the killing during the course of a robbery, he would face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

McAtasney also is charged with first-degree robbery, felony murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, desecrating human remains, tampering with evidence and hindering his own apprehension.

He has been on trial before Superior Court Judge Richard W. English since Jan. 23.

The Asbury Park Press has reporters at the courthouse and will bring news of a verdict as soon as there is one.“ (BBM)

Sarah stern murder trial update: jury asks to see videos, judge will make it happen Tuesday am. @NBCNewYork
OK let's talk video's. AC secret video of LM. LM and LE outside of his house with PT. Or LM at police station talking with detective. Wonder which one or ones?

In addition to asking to watch the videotaped confession again, the jury also asked to listen to a recording of a phone conversation between a private investigator and a Neptune man who claims to have seen Stern alive after prosecutors says she was murdered.

Stern's body has never been found, which the defense asserts creates doubt about whether she was murdered.

Jurors also asked to see body-camera footage from two police officers who questioned McAtasney in the immediate aftermath of Stern's disappearance and a videotape of McAtasney's roommate at Stern's house re-enacting for investigators how he moved the victim's body from the house to bushes outside, allegedly at McAtasney's behest.

In addition, the jury asked for surveillance video from the house across the street from Stern's, which prosecutors allege shows McAtasney and his roommate, Preston Taylor, returning later that night to load the corpse into the victim's car before taking it to the bridge.

At the trial, Christopher Decker and Meghan Doyle, assistant Monmouth County prosecutors argued that McAtasney strangled Stern in her Neptune City home on Dec. 2, 2016 after convincing her to take money out of the bank, .

Sarah Stern murder: Jury wants to review confession

“The jury in the Sarah Stern murder trial requested Monday to review the chilling video of Stern’s accused killer, Liam McAtasney, talking about how he allegedly executed his plan to strangle Stern for her cash.

The panel of seven women and five men started deliberations just after 3 p.m. They made the request to watch the video and several others just before court ended for the day.

On Tuesday, the jury will watch the secretly-recorded video of McAtasney talking to Anthony Curry, a friend who was working with detectives, about executing his plan to kill Stern. In the video, McAtasney talks in gruesome detail about how he strangled Stern and then watched her die. Curry was cooperating with authorities after he came forward to police with information about McAtasney’s alleged involvement in the disappearance of Stern.

The jury also asked to review several taped interviews McAtasney had with police in the days following Stern’s reported disappearance on Dec. 3, 2016. They also want to review surveillance video from one of Stern’s neighbor’s house that authorities say shows McAtasney and Taylor returning to the residence to remove Stern’s body, as well as a video re-enactment of Taylor showing detectives how the two went about that.

Lastly, the jury wants to listen to a phone call between a witness, Craig Hetzel, and a private investigator working for the defense. In the call, Hetzel talks about how he claims to have seen Stern on the street in Bradley Beach the morning after authorities say she was killed by McAtasney.

Murder confession or horror film audition? Sarah Stern jury asks to review pivotal hidden camera video

That’s quite a bit of material that they are requesting, IMO. Maybe there is a holdout ... sigh.
