Witness: Michelle Lodzinski did not have her son at carnival

Laura Mechkowski told a jury Tuesday morning she and her family went to the carnival at Kennedy Park in Sayreville the evening of May 25, 1991 and decided to get them food.

At the concession stand, a young woman was in front of her having a conversation with a man behind the concession stand, but she didn't order anything, Mechkowski testified.

After Mechkowski ordered her food, the two women began to talk.

"We discussed the weather," Mechkowski remembered. "She was pleasant, happy."

That woman, she said she later learned, was Michelle Lodzinski, who is on trial for murdering her 5-year-old son Timothy Wiltsey 25 years ago. Lodzinski has claimed that her son went missing at that carnival.

But Mechkowski said she never saw Timothy at the carnival.

Dilcher, one of their key witnesses in the high-profile murder trial, dabbed at her eyes as a prosecutor showed her a photo of her cousin, 5-year-old Timothy Wiltsey.

A short time later, Dilcher identified a dirty blue blanket discovered with the boy's remains when he was found in a desolate marsh in Edison more than two decades ago as one she had seen in Lodzinski's South Amboy home...

"Timmy is not discussed among the family," said Dilcher, of Plainfield. "He is taboo. The subject of Timmy doesn't come up."

Very interesting case. Still getting caught up. I wish there was more coverage of the trial that is currently taking place....

An anonymous tip that came into the Crime Stoppers hotline on June 1, 2011, about the disappearance of Timothy “Timmy” Wiltsey in May 1991 prompted the reopening of the cold case.

Police Sgt. Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office told the jury sitting on Michelle Lodzinski’s murder trial that he followed up on the tip, which his office determined was inaccurate information; however, it prompted his decision to reopen the 25-year-old case...

Crocco said they focused on where Timmy’s skeletal remains were found in a drainage ditch at the Raritan Center, Edison, on April 23, 1992, and the items found in and around the drainage ditch... “We felt if we could link the items to the defendant [Lodzinski], it would be very powerful,” he said.

Prosecutors revealed their case over the last two weeks as to why a jury should convict Michelle Lodzinski of murder for killing her 5-year-old son Timothy Wiltsey nearly 25 years ago...

Fourteen days of testimony and 39 witnesses were presented to jurors before prosecutors rested their case last week...

The trial resumes Tuesday morning before Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves with the defense calling witnesses.

The Lodzinski family took center stage Tuesday morning in the trial of Michelle Lodzinski for the murder of her 5-year-old son, Timothy Wiltsey in May 1991.

The first two witnesses in the trial were her two sons, Daniel, 18, and Benjamin, 14, who testified their mother told them they had an older brother named Timmy who died...

The brothers were followed by their grandfather and Michelle's father, Edward Lodzinski Sr., who recalled learning about his grandson's disappearance and death.

The coverage for this trial is terrible. A reporter goes some days, will tweet who is on the stand and what they are testifying about in as few words possible tweet what they said, but it leaves me with lots of questions. #lodzinskitrial

Michelle Lodzinski suffered from a mixed personality disorder with anti-social traits in 1991 when her son allegedly disappeared from a Sayreville carnival, according to a forensic psychologist.

But whether jurors in Lodzinski's murder trial will be allowed to hear testimony from Dr. Louis Schlesinger, in response to a defense witness, Dr. Kenneth Weiss, a forensic psychiatrist, who said Lodzinski suffered from no mental illness, has yet to be decided by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves...

Howard Ryan, a retired New Jersey State Trooper who now works as a crime scene investigator... testified that Timothy's remains were found in a marshy area in Raritan Center with moving water. He said the creek where the remains were found winds in from the Raritan River...

He also questioned if two major storms between May 25,1991, when Timothy allegedly disappeared, and April 1992, when his remains were found, could have carried his body to the creek off Olympic Drive where they were found. "It expands your search area," he said, adding that 90 percent of Timothy's remains are still missing.

An Arizona man believes a former jail cellmate may have killed 5-year-old Timothy Wiltsey in 1991.

Testifying before jurors Wednesday in the Michelle Lodzinski murder trial, Damien Dowdle, 42, a convicted bank robber, said Bernard Joseph McShane told him in 1991 that he killed a little boy at a park...

Michael Lynch, 46, of Old Bridge, the final witness of the day, testified that the day after the carnival, he saw two men run into an apartment complex near the park, come out carrying a 4-foot-long object rolled up, throw it in the trunk of the car and drive off without the vehicle's headlights on.

http://www.nj.com/middlesex/index.s...mom_wont_testify_at_her_trial_for_murder.html

Michelle Lodzinski told a judge Tuesday afternoon that she will not take the witness stand at her own trial for the murder of her 5-year-old son, Timothy Wiltsey...

Nieves's questioning of Lodzinski on whether she would testify came as the defense presentation of witnesses was coming to an end...

The trial will resume Wednesday morning when the prosecution will begin calling rebuttal witnesses.

From what I've read, I'm not sure they have enough to convict her. What does everyone think? There seems to be little evidence against her... She changed her story about how he disappeared, but she has a personality disorder and may just be a compulsive liar... Maybe Timmy really was at the fair. Maybe the people who identified the blanket as his years later were wrong. Or maybe someone she knew killed and disposed of Timmy, and she covered up for them by pretending he disappeared at the fair. Her boyfriend of the time was a suspect for a while....

I think there's reasonable doubt.

Bernard Joseph McShane testified Wednesday that he has never been to New Jersey, Atlantic City, Sayreville, Edison or Raritan Center and did not kill Timothy Wiltsey.

McShane, 53, of Phoenix, testified for the prosecution as a rebuttal witness to testimony last week by defense witness Damien Dowdle, also of Arizona.

The trial is scheduled to resume Tuesday and that the two sides will rest their cases next week.

Under questioning by Gerald Krovatin, Lodzinski's attorney, Fulciniti denied ever telling two Sayreville police officers on May 26, 1991 that she saw a young boy wearing red clothing, trying to get away from a man in his late 20's between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. the night of May 25, 1991.

"I did not speak to Sayreville police," she said."I didn't work on Sunday, May 26, 1991 because my husband was sick."

Fulciniti became adamant.

"I did not see him (Wiltsey) at the carnival," she said.
