Defense attorney opens with words of commendation for court staff.

"We have a young mother, who had a child... who will miss him every day...

We have a young man at the prime of his career..."

CG addresses Corey's mom directly.

[Uses language about Corey dying...not the he mirdered him.]

CG is recalling his last years... says he will remember the good days.

I'm sorry that you think I could do this to our son.

Prosecution
Cruel, depraved

Corey fell... CG bit him on the head, he fell more times
Delineated Corey's injuries

While Corey was going into cardiac arrest, CG was setting up a date....

Didn't call for an ambulance.....

Throws Corey in the backseat....

Tells hospital not to tell Corey's mom. Wouldn't tell her which hospital.

Corey passes away without his loved ones around him.

Corey had no way to fight back against CG. CG knew Corey wouldn't tell. Little, young, vulnerable.

Risk CG could commit further crimes. This crime was motivated by anger. That rage shows us he is dangerous with no impulse control.

Prosecution: CG put as many miles between himself and what he did to Corey.

[State is going through each aggravating/mitigating factors one by one]

Extreme indifference to human lifeI

History of infractions. Taken has a whole, he HASN'T lived a law-abiding life

Corey's grandfather has the first impact letter, reading it for Corey's aunt.

Asking for maximum sentencing because.....

They have a hole in their hearts.

Recounts Corey with an injured lip after being with CG. Corey said CG's hit him.

Recounts Corey hiding, begging not to ho to CG.

It's time for CG to be responsible for his actions.

CG showed Corey no mercy. Asks the Court to show none to CG.

Grandfather adds a personal word, says Corey was trained not to tell. Corey was deadly afraid of CG. Says CG has an anger and hate streak. He's a hurtful, mean person.

Didn’t Grandma file the child support petition that brought the defendant into Corey’s life? She says that the defendant took advantage of her daughter and has had DV issues in his past. And he didn’t want Corey. Why invite him back? Did they not know that if they ask for child support and get the paternity test that the defendant would have parental rights? I don’t know how they wouldn’t know that. JMO

She is a victim, she had no way of knowing requesting child support would end up with Corey dead. Seriously. Who would ever think that?!
