So this sounds like they are assuming Collin and Ahmet died? Or that only Collin died? Is Ahmet the "dangerous person" or is a third person implied here?

ETA: upon careful reading I believe Ahmet is NOT the "dangerous person" but also a victim. Both were apparently beaten and bleeding heavily.

The filmed torture sounds like Mexican narco-cartel copy cats.

The victims are very young, and thus seemingly unlikely to be working for one of the cartels, at least not directly. In addition, my general understanding is that the cartels are reluctant to work with non hispanics due to trust / leverage issues- and even with Hispanics, prefer those of who are either Mexican or of direct Mexican descent.

The cartels, however, are very fond of torture / execution videos including some imagery obviously inspired by ISIS videos (black ski masked executioners, confessions, super imposed flames etc). My guess is that a local gang is, in turn, being inspired by the cartel in the same way the cartel was inspired by ISIS regarding some videos.

In regards to snap chat, can up loads be traced back to a particular source? I imagine that if asked, the FBI can assist with some very comprehensive tracing expertise.

My mom recently moved to ABQ from a LA (Los Angeles, not Louisiana) and I swear, the crime seems much worse in ABQ. Perhaps because it is a much smaller town.

That said, no matter what these kids were involved in, no one deserves to be beaten nor to die from it IMO. I hope there is good news for these families soon. Very sad...

Reward offered for missing Albuquerque teens

A $1,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to two missing Albuquerque teens.

Police say 15-year-old Collin Romero and his friend 14-year-old Ahmed Lateef were last seen in a neighborhood near Hoover Middle School Sunday.

[...]

That reward needs to be bumped unto say, 3,000 and then offered in a meaningful way. Go door to door in neighborhood with information about the reward. I would even take the cash with me to show (briefly) to prospective tipsters.

A previous effort using this technique generated meaningful tips fast. There would also be a need to go in a group and take suitable precautions.

Though there could be risks involved, this type of horrific narco cartel imitation needs to be nipped in the bud fast. I dare say that the future of New Mexico depends on it.

#CRIMEOFTHEWEEK - Endangered Missing

$1,000 REWARD

PLEASE SHARE: The Albuquerque Police Departments Missing Person Unit is asking for your help in locating 15 year old Collin Romero. Collin Romero was reported missing by his mother, Amanda Kimbrel, after she was informed that a Snapchat video had circulated showing Collin’s and Ahmed Lateef (pictured below) being beaten in the west mesa area of Albuquerque. The video showed Collin’s and Ahmed bleeding with what appeared to be broken bones. Ahmed Lateef has a felony warrant and is an absconder of the law. Information suggest that both Collin’s and Ahmed were involved in a drug deal that may have gone bad in the area of Tivoli Avenue NE and Golden Gate Avenue NE. Both subjects have not been heard from since and their whereabouts are unknown. Collin Romero was entered into NCIC as an endangered missing person. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers (505) 843-STOP (7867). You can also submit anonymous tips using the P3 Tips mobile app or at P3tips.com. There is a $1,000 reward being offered for information on their whereabouts.

This is not a high crime neighborhood...though the city has plenty of those. It is very residential with schools kids walk to, even young kids. At the corner they mentioned is a very popular diner/restaurant that I often walk to from my apt, about 1/3 mile away maybe. I can’t picture this happening where they said, unless they met someone in the school grounds after hours. Jmo

Thanks for the local perspective. I was envisioning a high crime area known for gang activity. I am glad that you are able to correct that false impression.

It seems like they know who did this. Where is this “very dangerous” kid now? Has he been arrested? If not, why not?

This is eerily similar to what befell Elijah Moore and his friend Enrique Rios. Their killer plotted a revenge on Elijah and was happy to take out as many of his buddies along the way to get to his target.

There is a name of the suspect & vehicle description shared within social media; did not sound like a kid.

The local news sites did not mention the boys last night :( I am shocked they have not been located.

Maybe we can change that. I encourage everyone on this forum to E=-mail the following News Stations requesting coverage:

As horrible is this crime is against two teen-age boys and as intense the pain caused to their mothers, it goes beyond them.

The elements of this crime: Torture video, over kill violence beyond what was needed to say, control a low level drug deal etc screams "Narco" or "Narco wannabe". This needs to be nipped in the bud.

Oh no, this makes me sick. Those poor boys. If they haven’t shown up in a hospital yet, is there any chance they are still alive? This is horrible.
Open fractures require immediate surgery to clean out any sources of bacteria from the wound, tissue, and bone, the danger from infection is incredibly high. I fear that if they didn't get medical care, they would succumb to their injuries by this point.
