does anyone know when the documentry about tara's case is going to be ready to watch ..i know recently the actor from breaking bad just sighned up to produce or direct it .

I was also wondering this. The Facebook page on the documentary seems to indicate they are having difficulty getting funding for its distribution and are now pitching it to a number of cable networks. Hopefully RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad)'s involvement will bring more attention to it.

The case had previously been handled by Valencia County sheriff’s deputies, but now a six-person task force that includes agents from federal Homeland Security Investigations, the New Mexico State Police Department, the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, the Albuquerque Police Department and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will re-investigate Calico’s disappearance.

The new detectives will look at every piece of evidence that have been gathered over the 25 years. They will also re-interview several people.

The massive workload is already underway.

"I know we have transferred some of the original evidence from the incident here," Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said.

Melinda Esquibel was friends with Calico, and has been making a documentary about her disappearance. She says she believes all of Belen knows what happened to Calico, but says law enforcement hasn't had enough evidence to put anyone behind bars. She does hope the task force helps bring the people responsible for Calico's disappearance to justice.

I'm so happy to see these cold cases reopened. Amber Swartz-Garcia's got opened again as well. I hope they find Tara. Sounds like they are close. If they could find her, the case looks like it could be easily closed!

"ust recently, The Valencia County News Bulletin received an email from a former Georgia sheriff’s deputy, who said a young woman’s body matching Calico’s description was found on the side of an interstate in Georgia.

That woman is buried in an unmarked grave there. Her DNA was sent to a lab in Atlanta, but the body was never confirmed to be Calico’s."

hmmmm

Does this UID have a page on NAMUS or DOE Network?

I dont know, this was on page two of the article posted above about them re opening the case.

The way DNA is checked puzzles me. I guess I had assumed over the years that when DNA was loaded into the system, it would run until it hit a match with other DNA profiles. But from what I understand, you literally have to take a DNA profile and try and match to what you think might match. Very confusing.
I hope as this science continues to grow, that they get a better way to solve these cases with matching. So if a DNA profile loaded from San Francisco, will automatically match with a DOE that was found in New York, without police officers having to search out an unidentified that matches the profile of the person missing.

Because lets say a child that went missing in Newark New Jersey in 1985, but a body was found of a grown women in Oregon in 2002. By all reasoning no one would try and match the DNA of this victim. So neither one is matched up and the case is not solved. When it could be that the child was kept alive in secret ( Like Ariel Castro did) and they get older and die.

Very frustrating!

While the investigation is ongoing, a film crew is wrapping up work on a documentary, “Vanished: The Tara Calico Story.”

On Sept. 20, 1988, Calico, a student at the University of New Mexico, disappeared while riding her bike about 150 yards from the Rio Communities golf course near her home in Belen.

I'm very glad to hear that they are about finished on the documentary, I had began to think for a while if it had been scrapped.

A few things come to mind when reading about Tara. The witnesses say they spotted a white or light grey ford pickup truck following Tara. The car is said to be of the 1953 model. How many of these cars were registered in or around the county? This car would possibly have a custom built white shell.

The car was about 35 years old back in 88,

Continued... A 35 year old car requires some tlc. Any mechanics in the area? Oh, thats right. David Parker ray. Aka the toy box killer. I know he has been mentioned before. But he were approximately 116 miles from where she disappeared. In one of the tapes he allegedly played to his victims he mentions that he and his girlfriend would drive far to find a victim, and they rarely got back empty handed.

I know that the sheriff’s office has a completely different theory, but seriously. This guy, that close at the time? Also he has got the know how to keep a 35 year old car running and possibly he could have built the white shell the witnesses mention to transport newly kidnapped victims. I dont belive he took his god awful toy box out on the roads. A bit risky i feel.

Everything above are my crazed speculation and nothing else. I mean no disrespect to the family or the officers working this. It's just so weird that this guy were out and about at the time, in that area.

I think you have something very good going on here with the truck as well. Indeed, how many of these models were white/grey, had a custom shell and were located or sold in an area not too far from Tara?

I have a question. I guess it was discussed before, but I can't find the answer. Since the police seems to have never believed it was Calico and Henley in the infamous polaroid, has there been any OFFICIAL comments as to who it might be? Was it or is it the subject of a separate investigation? I know there was a lot of speculation, but can't find much from the official side. Thanks!

It makes my think of the declaration of the sheriff some years ago who said he knew who did it, that it was local people and she died in some sort of "accident". Maybe the local police know perfectly well who the owner, was but can't say it because of lack of proof. In his abstract, the guy who is working on a documentary hint in the same way: "Outrage at the cover up by the parents who were involved with her disappearance, and frustration that several of the boys, now men, that were involved with her death, are alive and well and living in the community."
