The killer was probably a collector-he kept these items as a "trophy". Whomever he is, when he gets caught, I bet le will find some of the victims personal effects. I actually talked to someone back home in Albuquerque who knows some of the families and who knows about the upcoming documentary...this person told me they know for a fact that Jamie Barela was out there "working".

One of them had their breasts cut off...either Michelle or Jamie....another trophy?

Jayne Perea, Jamie Barela's mom, said that in an interview with the journal or the El Paso Times. Jayne said that one of the detectives told her that confidentially. From the Dateline special, APD released the cause of death as "homicidal violence". It was implied that APD decided to keep the specific cause of death under wraps.

Yes, it seems like that they are very concerned with cause of death and not letting it get out.

we should have this thread made into a forum so that we can merge other threads in the uid/id'd areas here and have vic threads and other related threads--easier to have everything in one spot, especially since it's such a major case, as well as a Danse_Macabre case

sexual sadist.........and extreme rage/anger issues geared towards women, especially prostitutes

More info on the state of the other victims would go a long way to confirming this..it would be helpful, IMO.

Here's an excerpt from a book that devoted a chapter to the west mesa murders. According to this source asphyxiation was the cause of death. This the only source that states something other than homicidal violence.
https://books.google.com/books?id=4...onepage&q=virginia cloven albuquerque&f=false

Now I wonder if the mutilation happened prior to death or after. Prior to death would leave a lot of blood....after death not. My guess is it was after death, as there would be less blood, less clean up...less chance of being caught. But if killer was sadistic, mutilation before death would be more satisfying, I would think.

Hello, the seeker! I'm just bouncing off your post because it had to do with the clothing, or rather the lack of clothing.

This is probably unrelated and I wasn't even going to mention it, but I keep thinking about it...so here goes:

I don't think I can link or quote from it because it is from a thread " downstairs". Anyway, the gist of it is....a poster here came across a display of women's clothing located in a vacant house in a ghost town in NEW MEXICO. There were also things written on the walls and the whole thing was rather creepy. I remember thinking at the time that it looked like a 'trophy room'.

I realize the odds are pretty slim of this being connected. But, I just can't seem to shake the feeling that it might be so I had to say something.

If anyone wants to take a look....the thread is located in the
Jury Room....I bumped it, so it should be on top.
Name of the thread is ' disturbing display I found in a vacant house'.

WOW. Ill take a look. That is interesting for sure...

Doreen Marquez -
-8/31/1976
-5'3 130lbs
-Last seen on 10/27/2003 in Barelas
Barelas a neighborhood in Albuquerque located by the zoo.
-Grew up in Barelas
-Lived with younger sister Julie Gonzales, but Julie asked her to leave when she found needles in her home
-2 daughters
-Sister claimed to have filed 3 police reports before the one that was dated in 2004
-In October of 2008, Lorie G, friend, found out that Fred Reymolds had naked pictures of Doreen, along with some of the other girls, with the word missing on the pics. Before Lorie G. could question him further, he passed away of natural causes (jan. 2009).
-Doreen was known to frequent truck stops. The truck stop on Menaul & University (I-25 and 1-40 intersect by here) was specifically mentioned on her missing flier.
-Heroin was drug of choice.
-Knew Victoria Chavez
-Frequented war zone
-Family and friends searched for her from the time she went missing (posted fliers, went to police, etc.)
-Arrests for drugs and shoplifting
-No arrests for prostitution
-According to APD was a known prostitute

I just found an article that said "Missing" was on one of three pics of the victims. I cannot provide the link because it is expired, and I found it on another forum (that was providing the link with the info) but Im not allowed to link that here.

Anyway, if it was just written on one photo I could see that maybe for whatever reason, he takes pics of the prostitutes hes with (with or without their knowledge-who knows) and then he may have heard about her being missing and decided to write it on there when he heard about it. I feel he is less of a viable suspect...to me, it he took pics of three of his victims, he would have taken pics of more-I feel like as a killer that would be a compulsion, not something you do once or twice. I also feel that if he wrote missing on one, he would have written missing on all three if he was the killer...MOO.

Yes, I have requested different threads for the subjects....it would be so much easier. I have not received an answer though.
That's the next project I'll be working on this week. It will take a couple of days, so hang in there. ;)

I looked into that pretty closely a couple of years ago. I think a couple of other members did, too. It doesn't connect, imo. Here's the link in case anyone else wants to have a look.

:please::please::please:maybe CHILLICOTHE, OH after that? (merge missings threads into it and make a larger forum)--that case is sooo fluid right now

Ok so this is my first time posting, woohoo! :) I actually came across this site a few yrs ago while I was looking into this case. Idk why n I can't explain it, but I'm drawn to this case. Maybe it's bc I'm in recovery so I sympathize with their lifestyles? But one thing I had to say was that it was noted that Jamie's breast was cut off. Well I figured by the time the bodies were found, they would've been too decomposed to be able to tell something like that right? Tissue and muscle don't stay on bodies like that for years, so how can they tell her breast was cut off? Also I'll happily take Victoria if no-one has her yet? Look forward to getting to know everyone on here!!

Good question. I've wondered that, too. I'm going to do some research on that today

So from news sources we can connect Fred Reynolds to:
Victoria Chavez
Doreen Marquez
Vanessa Reed
Unfortunately, this could mean nothing. He owned an escort business and the girls were known prostitutes.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful welcome! :happydance:

So I've read somewhere before that someone on the WM case said they believed the deaths were tied to a "single incident". Meaning, everyone dying at the same time... Some of these girls went missing around 2yrs apart. So you're telling me that Monica Candelaria who went missing in 2003 died the same time as Victoria Chavez who was reported missing in 2005? I find that hard to believe. Also, if they were tied to a single incident, who could've kept this many girls together without them trying to retaliate? It would have to be a big group of people. I couldn't stand by and watch someone being murdered. Now if they had a gun on them, maybe that would convince them to stay put. But, they didn't die from GSW. And, Jamie Barela supposedly had a breast cut off. Could the killer really cut off someone's breast as the rest stood by to watch? Unless of course it was post mortem, but I just don't believe the single incident scenario one bit. I'll post the link where it mentioned that, I just have to find it. And, there were rumors flying amongst the girls on the street, as they were being picked off one by one. The Valdez family received that call about Michelle and Cinnamon being buried on the WM. These rumors had to start somewhere. Someone knew what was going on, and was letting people know. This case was badly botched from the beginning. I understand that because of the lifestyle, it's hard to pinpoint exactly when some of them went missing, so I do understand that it wasn't gonna be as easy to follow up on leads, etc. I don't think this was the work of L.E., but I do think they know who committed the murders, and that APD has some type of tie in to it with corruption, etc., so if they exposed the killer than they'd be exposing their crimes along the way too.
