This news item says that Arjen's kayak was pulled on land days before police found it:

But still, private aircrafts fly.

Here is some info on that Rognan air strip. It says (Google translate): Private and taxi lifts up to 5700kg and max. 10 people between Norway and Schengen countries.
No landing permission, no landing fee, no hangar, no fuel (Shell = 500 metres away).

Can't read the article .... would love to know if they know who did that. Was it pulled on land as a kayak?

There is a big mystery here.

Seems it was pulled on land as a kayak, but that is only my interpretation of the article. Would have thought that the people who pulled it on land had called the police if not... It is often objects who floats there so that why the persons only pulled it on land and not called the police states an.no. Police got information about the persons, so it seems they have got it by third person and not from the persons themself, but who knows?

Wat is er gebeurd met cyberexpert Arjen Kamphuis? | TROUW

The kayak, the identity papers and some other items of the Amsterdam-born Amsterdammer Arjen Kamphuis have already been found. But where the 47-year-old expert in the field of digital security is himself, that remains a big mystery.
Three weeks ago, on Monday 20 August, Kamphuis disappeared from the radar in Norway, the country where the experienced hiker was celebrating his holidays alone. That day he checked out at his hotel in Bodø, a coastal town in the north of Norway. According to his plan, he would fly back to Schiphol two days later from Trondheim, 700 kilometers further south. But he never sat in that plane. Typical for Kamphuis is that he is occasionally unreachable for family and friends. That is why they only issued an alarm when he did not show up in the Netherlands with a number of appointments.

Kamphuis's telephone would have been on for ten days after his disappearance. He would also have been seen in Denmark Since the disappearance, time and time again, snippets pop up information that raises more questions than answers. For example, Kamphuis' telephone appears to have been on for a while ten days after his disappearance. The signal was picked up by telephone poles that are many hundreds of kilometers to the south than Bodø. He would also have been seen in Denmark. Thanks to this kind of secrecy and the personality of Kamphuis, his disappearance is quickly picked up by various media. Intelligence services Kamphuis - type computer nerd with several laptops in his backpack, a flawless beard and framesless glasses - is one of those who knows everything about hacks, computers, data and all other facets that are related to bits and bytes. A smart man who really gets into action when it comes to matters such as the technical capabilities of the American secret service NSA, described a Kamphuis expert in an article in Vrij Nederland. Someone who knows in detail dozens of ways in which a foreign power could hack the elections in the Netherlands. And who warns anyone who wants to listen for the power of intelligence services.

Did he knew more than good for him? The conspiracy theories are already flying over the internet. He would have deliberately disappeared under the radar or were abducted by security services. It is also suggested that he joined Julian Assange of Wikileaks, with whom he spoke several times in the past.

The Norwegian police, which has to do with the facts, says evidence to have that Kamphuis after checking traveled in his hotel from Bodo to Rognan, a town half an hour to the east by train. There a fisherman found the kayak, the tent and the passport of Kamphuis. Why he set up his bivouac in the middle of nature is still a mystery.

It's not because I'm a Dane, but I still think it's important to have the Danish track in your reflections. The easy access, if it is the intention, unseen from south Norway to Denmark. Ribe in Jutland / Denmark with which you can easily cross the border with Germany unseen. The mobile phone hits in southern Norway, the many witnesses in the Stavanger / Rogaland area, especially the witness from VG who has seen 2 Dutch and German speaking with the Arjen.

ad.nl 13-09-18, 13:54

"Earlier, two witnesses also reported that Kamphuis said on Monday, September 3, in Denmark. He would have been spotted in Ribe in Jutland. ,, We are in close contact with the police services in Norway, Denmark and Germany '', said a spokesman for the police. "These kinds of details are now being announced to ask people to be alert to the disappearance in those countries as well. He can still sit in many places. "

Van de Leest emphasizes that, independently of each other, two different tips came from Denmark. "Based on one tip, we took the other one seriously."

The Danish police and Sirene bureau, which has access to travel data from Schengen countries, are investigating this. The police also checks camera images to see if Kamphuis really has been there. Van de Leest: ,, I am more hopeful about these tips, because they have been done independently. The locations of these reports were close together. ''
(Google translate)

I have contacted local newspapers and television stations in South Jutland to bring a story about a search for Arjen, they returned with the reply that it was a very exciting story and thanks for the tip but none of them have shown a feature about the missing Arjen. As a media blackout, I suppose it's because the police in Denmark have not yet called for him officially as sought after. But it now seems to change according to the Dutch article.

What confuses me most with the Denmark's Track is the number of observations and dates for these. As of September 1st, 2 dates are mentioned. (Very quick to get a tip, he just got wanted at that time)

Ancilla tweet 1 sep.

"We got a tip from Ribe, Denmark about a man spotted that looked like #ArjenKamphuis on 28th and 29th. Could be nothing, could be something. Danes, please keep your eyes open
1f64f.png
#Ribe #Denmark #FindArjen

2:47 PM - 1 Sep 2018"

Then, two independent observations are mentioned, has happened on September 3 in Ribe and there is also an observation mentioned in NYT in the nearby city of Esbjerg (Where is the NYT information from? And what day did the observation take place?)

Information coming from Ancilla is usually info that has been confirmed ~not saying that the content is true in this case, but the tips themselves are.

IMHO, both the sightings from Denmark and the Stavanger area are about men who are unsuspecting hikers and not Arjen Kamphuis. It is hard to imagine that Arjen Kamphuis would want to disappear and then decide to go hiking with a group. And none of the participants thinks about alerting the police.

Should the police manage to locate them, both men are in for a big shock.

That surprises me. Techies here tend to use credit or debit cards.
where is "here"? In the US, everyone uses credit cards or now their phones for everything. In Germany, you have use cash for most things. Only some places take cards and definitely not lockers. You need Kleingeld for those. Not sure about Norway.

It is also sure that Ancilla's tweets are valid, based on serious sources :) . September 1 is still very early in the process. At that time, only Ancilla and Wikileaks are looking for him. Police saying (September 1) that he has not formally been declared missing yet and is only covered by Norwegian newspapers on September 1 (Not in Denmark).

Ancilla´s first tweet 8:45 PM - 31 Aug 2018
Wikileaks´s first 1:43 AM - 1 Sep 2018
Ancilla´s "Ribe" tweet 2:47 PM - 1 Sep 2018

I think that the tips that came from Ribe on August 31 - September 1 are based one of the two tweets (or private comm). One might suppose they have the same interests as Ancilla or Wikileaks (unless they respond to a re-tweet) and know Arjen (not necessary personally) as a public person, something most people did not. (Without a private aircraft, these 28-29 August observations do not match the August 30 event and possible observations of him in the area).

September 3, the observations in Ribe are obviously emphasized so much that they are still on the Dutch police website. And the new information (September 12) indicates that Danish police escalate the investigation (ad.nl)

The only connection I can make between southern Norway, southern Denmark and a person with Arjan's interests is an important seacable.

Submarine Cable Map

Havfrue/AEC-2

  • RFS: Q4 2019
  • Cable Length: 7,200 km
  • Owners: Aqua Comms, Facebook, Bulk Infrastructure, Google
  • Notes: Aqua Comms ((http://www.aquacomms.com)acts as the overall system administrator for the Havfrue cable, and has dubbed the portion of the cable where it has ownership (Denmark, Ireland, and U.S. segments) as AEC-2. Bulk Infrastructure (Bulk Infrastructure AS) is the Norwegian landing party for Havfrue.

Police have received 80 tips about the missing Arjen Kamphuis

The police have received 80 tips about the Dutchman Arjan Kamphuis (46) who has been reported missing after he was last seen in Bodø on August 20th.

Police lack secure and confirmed observations of the security expert working with WikiLeaks. Almost one month after he apparently checked out of the hotel where he stayed in Bodø, many have said they have seen him in different places, but the police have not been able to verify any of the tips.

"There are many questions we do not have answers to. We have 80 different tips to follow up, so it's a comprehensive investigation, " police inspector Bjarte Walla in the Nordland police district told NTB.

He leads the investigation into the man who has unexpectedly disappeared. Arjen Kamphuis checked out of his hotel in Bodø on 20 August, allegedly with two dark bags. In one, the police believe he had a folding canoe which, along with several personal belongings, was found in the sea between Fauske and Rognan on Tuesday night.

Kamphuis was planning to travel from Nordland by train to Trondheim and then fly home to Amsterdam on 22 August, but he never used this flight ticket.

Without any preceding signs, his phone contacted a base station in the small town Vikeså in Bjerkreim south of Rogaland in the hour before midnight on the 30th of August. First, it was his Dutch SIM card that was registered, then it was switched to a German SIM card that is also registered in his name. Since then there have been no technical traces of the man.

According to VG, a witness should have observed Kamphuis together with two other men in Vikeså the same evening the phone was registered by the base station. All three should have had walking gear and two of them spoke Dutch while the third spoke German.

"We have a tip about an observation in Denmark at the beginning of September. We cooperate with Danish police about this, but it's completely impossible to say anything about the validity of these tips," Walla says.

He reiterates that the police keep everything open about what may have happened to the Dutchman. They have three main hypotheses: that the 46-year-old may have been exposed to an accident, that he himself has chosen to remain hidden or that he has been subjected to a criminal offense.

"We have so far no information in the case that allows us to exclude any of the three hypotheses," says Walla, adding: "His described affiliation with WikiLeaks has no impact on the job the police do. We investigate this the same way as any other missing persons case."

This is a slightly different story about the sim cards.... is it confirmed that both would have been his? It was said AK has a phone with two sim cards anyway. I understood before that one of the sim cards was taken out and replaced by another. The way it is described here, the phone would have been switched from one card to the other. Maybe it was in the phone already, maybe it wasn't but it was his and he had it with him.

Frustrating! Would have been better if the German sim card had remained in use so it could be traced!

The Coast Guard is helping to search for AK: Nederlender savnet i Bodø

.... with help of the armed forces, if I understand that well.

The army has been requested to assist in the search for Arjen Kamphuis, according to TV 2, writes Avisa Nordland. According to AN, the Armed Forces will contribute a coastguard vessel to the search.

Officially keeping all hypotheses open ....

The army has been asked to assist in the search for Arjen Kamphuis, according to TV 2. The Armed Forces Headquarters (FOH) confirms this to Avisa Nordland.

"I can confirm that the Armed Forces have received a request for assistance from the police," according to press officer Elisabeth Q. Eikeland at FOH.
Armed Forces will support the search with a coast guard vessel. Eikeland further states that it is the police that lead the operation and they can provide more information about the Armed Forces resources.

The search for missing Arjen Kamphuis takes place at the innermost part of Skjerstadfjorden. The police have found Kamphuis's kayak and items belonging to the safety expert and Wikileaks associate.

Last known observation by Arjen Kamphuis was August 20th. Then he checked out of Scandic Bodø. He had an plane ticket from Trondheim for August 22 and was going to Amsterdam. The police have reason to believe that he took the local train from Bodø to Rognan after check-out of the hotel. Departure from Bodø was 16.05 hrs and arrival Rognan was 17.29. hrs.

Aagh... this is confusing for non-Norwegians. The coast guard is part of the Army in Norway?

Ifølge AN vil Forsvaret bidra med et kystvaktfartøy i søket.
I think this means: volgens AN zal Forsvaret (het leger) de kustwacht helpen met zoeken

Yes, it is! It is the maritime military force which is part of our navy. They does among other things fishery inspections, border control and customs besides rescuing and search.
Zo if we translate that sentence, it would be: the Armed Forces will help the coast guard in the searches.

Wat does that mean? The norwegian army or the air force will help the coast guard?

Norwegian Coast Guard (Kystvakten) is one of three main divisions of the Royal Norwegian Navy. It was established on April 1, 1977 when Norway established an economic zone, 200 miles from the coast. The previous fishing surveillance was closed. The Coast Guard's tasks are sovereignty in Norwegian waters, fisheries, customs and environmental surveillance, call control, rescue services and offshore assistance.

In 2010, the Coast Guard operated a total of 15 ships. In addition, they use the P-3 Orion aircraft and Westland Lynx helicopters (The latter is phased out and replaced by NHI NH90 helicopters) from the Air Force. :)

Norwegian Armed Forces contains all the branches, army, air force and naval defense.
As I understand, the Norwegian Armed Forces has asked the branch, the Navy, to assist. At least in this article.

I have my doubt that the kayak was in one of two black bags, it might be a black bag and a gray/black backpack. The kayak can be worn with a matching shoulder strap and it is white and orange. You can also buy a bag that fits the kayak, same brand (Oru). It is gray with a little black on it. It's not a bag that you sneak around with. (Exactly the same model as the found kayak costs 2770 euros including a bag, in Holland.)
Oru pack.
