The train windows that are possible to open are too small to throw something big out from so that is out of the question.
I totally agree, also, it seemed stupid when I wrote it, but I'm a tinfoil hat person. However, it seems that the size of a random folded kayak (available both larger and smaller) and the window fits, but I have not been able to find a single image of this train type with an open window and it requires that you can make the action unseen. Therefore, I totally agree, this option can be ignored.

No, it is not that stupid, I am not sure, but think the long distance route have older trains with windows that can open a bit more.. Since the one he apparently took is the local train it would be like the one I pictured....

Since the police thinks he took the train to Rognan I would think that he took all his luggage with him on the train and planned to board the train to Trondheim from Rognan instead of Bodø. I am not sure it is somewhere to store luggage at the railway station at Rognan, it is a couple of years since I took the train from that station last time.

The internet says that there are lockers:

Noorse politie vindt spullen van vermiste Arjen Kamphuis

The Norwegian police found belongings of the missing Dutchman Arjen Kamphuis. According to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, the police received a report from a fisherman who saw objects floating off the coast near Mount Kvænflåget - between the towns of Fauske and Rognan in the north of the country.

The police do not want to comment on what exactly was found, but say they know for sure that the items belong to Kamphuis. The Dutchman was last seen on 20 August in a hotel in the town of Bodø. The stuff was found east of that place, where cyber security specialist Kamphuis was on holiday.

Last week the Norwegian police confirmed that two mobile phones from Kamphuis had been switched on the week before. That was ten days after he was last seen. It was to be a private telephone and a work telephone, both of which sent out signals for less than an hour.

The signal came from a town south of Stavanger, about 1700 kilometres south of Bodø. Both SIM cards were removed and replaced by German ones. It is unclear who did this.

The police have reason to assume that Kamphuis took the train from Bodø to Rognan on August 20. He would return home on 22 August.

This is looking bad.....
So how come that phone pinged near Stavanger and people claim to have seen him there??

Whose fingerprints are on the SIM cards? If Arjen's, they may just be keeping quiet until he or his remains are found. If someone else's, it seems foul play is likely.

Arjen Kamphuis would have bought a foldable kayak. This is a flat box / bag that opens and unfolds into a kayak, probably with some clippings.
One commercial ad that I read actually said something like: you can easily take it with you on a cart with your other luggage on the train and get on the water when you feel like.

IMHO he would leave most of his luggage at the railway station if that was possible, but he would take his phone with him. In a watertight bag. Well, that is what most people would do I think, just in case.

And in that case, are his bags still at the station?

Thanks, normally the lockers take cash only and mostly 10 kr and up to 30-40 kroner, but it seems that he mostly used cash anyway.

Media like tv2.no now states that it was his ID-papers who was found floating , but the police dont want to confirm it. Tre gåter rundt Arjens forsvinning

Well, if they found his ID-papers, then they can be sure these are his. But I wonder if ID-papers would float. Unless of course they were in a special bag.

The video is great for an overview of the area ~ the train passes indeed very near the water!

No sim-cards have been recovered IMHO, and his phone would have pinged in the area near Stavanger, 10 days after his alleged disappearance in Rognan. The phone has not been recovered (as far as we are aware).

This disappearance is so confusing. Seems like there are two persons missing. One possibly went into the water near Rognan, and the other travelled to Stavanger where he turned on his phone and switched sim-cards.

The train track runs at the water's edge so it's easy to throw something out of the window but sought-after is a natural type, so it should be very important before he could do such an act.

The first of the locals who are interviewed from the television clip mentions that Arjen's belongings (Id card + something that can keep it floating?) may have been thrown out of the train window.

I misinterpreted the NY Times article which mentioned the phones. I believe you're right. It seems the phone(s) are not yet confirmed as having been recovered, just that LE knows where they were used. Thank you.

Sorry if my thoughts are too out there, but cannot help but wonder if AK has a doppelganger.
It is almost as if someone either directed by AK or otherwise, threw on a hat over a long blond-haired wig and some camouflage or all black clothing as he was widely known to wear, and went one way while the real AK went another way.
Whether AK really ended up in water or not, it seems like either he or somebody wanted it to look like he did, especially if there is any truth to his ID being found.

Speculation, imo.

Apparently, everybody has at least one doppelganger. My spitting image sells jeans in a store in Barcelona, or so I have been told. We never met.
However, while it is very possible that Arjen Kamphuis has at least one doppelganger, and there are a lot more men who look more or less like him, chances that the doppelganger also has the same sim-card are next to nil.

Only if the train is driving slowly, slowly in that area. We were warned that if you throw a can out of the window of a speeding train, the can will hit the train within a few seconds. The speed and the wind will push it back to the train. And it will hit hard.
A piece of paper may be blown back over the roof.

Thinking more of an imposter, perhaps even someone acting under direction of AK himself, or has AK under their control ie accessing the phone, train ticket ect. speculation.

Maybe sealed in a water bottle?

Why would anyone do that? They would only draw attention to themselves.
