Was it an AR-15 that the shooter used? By the sound of the gunfire that people recorded on their electronic devices, the gun sounded very well maintained (no hesitation in firing, no jamming, etc). He reloaded as well, right?

I have no clue what he used, but whenever I hear of an automatic weapon, I think of something like an AR-15. I have VERY limited knowledge of guns!

On the Today Show, a rep from the local hospital is saying they have about 15 patients in critical condition, others less serious. Four others have died, not sure if that's included in the tally of 50 now being reported.

Two LE also injured at the site, neither seriously.

the guy is old enough to have been in Viet Nam, my brother brought back all kinds of guns, knives, diamonds etc from his service, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was his from the war

Or, my first thought was maybe self modified/made...

My Hubby had to pick his twin sister up last night from the Toronto Airport. She was in Vegas and staying at the Mandalay Bay. She checked out at Noon local time. I cannot even imagine what peoples loved ones are going through. Such a sick world we live in.

Imagine the people today who will be waking this morning with news about their family members. I am waiting to hear back myself from some friends that are like family to me. They live in vegas but love music and go to all kinds of concerts all the time. They generally don't hang out on the strip though, as many locals don't.

Just to clear up something... AR, as in AR-15 does not stand for Automatic Rifle. Automatic rifles have been banned for years to the general public in the US, with military, secret service, etc. having the only access to those weapons. There were several rifles found, according to the media, none of which have been identified.

I've got so many question as to motivation...

I saw a picture of the "wife" in the Middle East, in Dubai but, ...maybe they were just vacationing?

If I can make a sweeping judgement, it may be fair to say that the group he/they targeted was mostly White and Conservative festival goers.

Also, it certainly looks like the house they shared on Babbling Brook Ct. in Mesquite, NV makes them rather comfortable financially.

So many questions...

RIP Las Vegas victims and God Bless all.

Wow...

It seems totally bonkers. Hand guns I (reluctantly) understand for protecting yourself, hell I think I'd have to have one if I lived there knowing every other person did, but I can't see how these types of mass murder weapons can be justified for anything except a battlefield situation.

Anyway, it's not the time or the place. This particular incident is truly shocking, one of the biggest mass shootings anywhere in the world, ever.

Indeed, it is shocking. I am thankful, too, that despite how frequently these mass shootings occur, I can still BE shocked.

I woud also like some more info on this shooter. (Terribly impatient of me, I know)

Good lord

Is the 50 falak confirmed and done climbing?

You honestly do not believe that 50 people getting killed and over 100 shot in the worst mass shooting in America's history will not leave people terrified, and bring about political upheaval? Seriously????

If you think this was political or terrorism, what change do you think the gunman had in mind? To bring about gun control? A ban on country music?

There's no evidence that this was anything to do with Islamic terrorism. The gunman was a traditional white male American mass shooter of whom there have been hundreds, if not thousands, over the years. With those types it always comes down to personal anger, revenge or spite.

Nothing political about it at all.

BBM. What is shocking to me is that I was NOT shocked initially when I read the news on my phone this morning.....20 dead. I'm ashamed to say I was not shocked or even moved....it felt like just another news story, another day, not as bad as Orlando or UK, anyway. How sick is that??? It really wasn't until I heard "worst mass shooting in U.S. history" did I actually feel shock. I am truly becoming desensitized :(.

The witness, 21, told local news: “She had been messing with a lady in front of her and telling her she was going to die, that we were all going to die.

“They escorted her out to make her stop messing around with all the other people, but none of us knew it was going to be serious.”

She described the lady as Hispanic. The lady was escorted from the venue along with a man.

Interesting. This is a different definition of terrorism that we've traditionally used in Europe where terrorism is invariably connected with attempting to force political change rather than perpetrating violence for its own sake.

I stand corrected in the US context.

He said Paddock was born on 9 April 1953, adding: "As far as history and background we haven’t completed that part of the investigation."

Records show Paddock lived in a three-year-old, $396,000 (£297,554) two-bedroom home in the small community of Mesquite, 80 miles north east of Las Vegas near the Arizona state border.

Local media said he had also previously lived in Reno, Nevada, California and Florida.
