Concerning the article about I-80 in Nevada, an understanding of the high desert vastness and climate is crucial. I live there, and here is a simple way of putting it: NEVADA KILLS THE UNPREPARED. The temperature swings between daytime highs and nighttime lows are 40 degrees more often than not, and 60+ degrees frequently. And, you do not sweat in Nevada; the dry atmosphere sucks the moisture out of you. Dehydration is a killer, but before it kills it steals your rationality. While you are still ambulatory, dehydration will disable your mind. We have found victims of the high desert stripped naked because their skin became so dry that their clothing became painful, and they took off their clothes before they died. They, in that condition, thought that was the smart thing to do. There are literally ten thousand places in Nevada where you can park your car on the side of the road, go for a walk, never be seen alive again, and indeed never be seen at all. There is nothing mysterious about it. The desert is deadly.

I am newish to facebook and don't know how to post here from that platform, but the Washoe County Sheriffs Office posted this the evening of 4/26 (I c/p'ed it), and it seems likely this will be the body found in the lake.

As of 2:40 PM Pacific Time, 2 May 2022, the conditions in Ely, NV (closest NWS station to Currie, NV) are as follows:

- Win 26 mph gusting to 36 mph

The release indicates they've tracked Aidan's tracks for over 10 air miles through rough terrain. In reviewing maps, I'm wondering if this is the area around Spruce Mountain which is just north of Currie.

If indeed this is the area, was Aidan familiar (previous road trips) or was this completely random and/or spontaneous. There's not been confirmation as to whether his vehicle broke down; one report indicates mom believed this may have been the case, or did he purposely stop here. It seems if he had broken down, he would have called someone if he had a cell, or attempted to flag someone down.

ELKO – Authorities spent a fifth day Monday searching southeastern Elko County for a 19-year-old California man who apparently wandered into the hills near Currie.

Aidan Clune is believed to have purchased fuel at a gas station in West Wendover on April 27 before traveling to Wells. His 2007 Nissan pickup was found along U.S. Highway 93 south of Wells.

Searchers include Elko and White Pine county sheriff departments, BLM rangers, Great Basin K-9 Search and Rescue, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue, and the Civil Air Patrol.

“They have followed Aidan’s tracks for over 10 air miles through the rough terrain,” stated the Elko sheriff’s office on Monday. “It is unknown why Aidan left his vehicle and has traveled so far on foot.”

Anyone who has seen Clune is asked to contact Elko Central Dispatch at 775-777-7300 or the Elko County Sheriff’s Office at 775-738-3421.

With such dramatic swings in temperature between the daily highs and night time lows it's possible those victims found naked were exhibiting classic signs of hypothermia. It's called paradoxical undressing.
