Wendover drives me nuts because it is in both Utah and Nevada. I keep thinking the thread title should be UT. I so associate Wendover with UT, Mesquite and Vegas with Nevada.

Kody was arrested 6.5 hours after they said in the press conference, they had no POI and needed tips.

We all knew he was a POI since Saturday afternoon, he had to know he was a POI... doesn't seem worth lying. Just don't have a press conference until the next morning.

I rarely understand the way LE operates.... but whatever, I am just glad they found her and made an arrest. I am relieved Micaela won't be added to the list of unsolved cases here. It's long enough already.

ELKO, Nev. — Kody Cree Patten took Micaela "Mickey" Costanzo into the desert west of Wendover after school on Thursday and assaulted her with a shovel, killing her, according to court documents.

New details about the death of the 16-year-old West Wendover High School student were revealed Wednesday in court documents.

High school relationships can be so intense. I was actually worried for my daughters welfare when she broke up with her high school boyfriend. He was too much in love and it bordered on obsession. She is a flighty Gemini, a social butterfly and it was just too intense for her. After she broke it off he slashed her car tires in the school parking lot. And he left a voice mail that she was lucky it wasn't her throat. I was upset that she had deleted the voice mail because I wanted to report him and I was very worried. She was not that scared and acted as though that is normal somehow. He stalked her for awhile and my poor son used to be on my speed dial because I made him check up on her all of the time whenever she was out.
I think teen boys are very fragile and vulnerable when heartbroken. They really take it hard. I feel so bad for this poor girls family and friends. God Bless them all.

I read that he confessed to actually killing her, after he first said he just left her in the desert, after a talk with his father who apparently told him to "man up." If true, thank God for his father; I can't count how many parents deny and protect when it comes to crimes their children are accused of.
 
Boy isnt this happening alot .......murders of teens by other teens is certainly on the rise...but of course it has nothing to do with the games they play, the tv and the movies they watch, or the sites they see on the internet.....ok I will stop ranting now.

Judging by what he wrote on his facebook etc I would say this guy was obsessed with her and couldnt take her rejecting him.

If only they could think rationally and know that there are other girls in the future, instead he has destroyed so many lives including his own.
 
You know what bugs me? These creeps always downplay their violence in the murder and tries to make themselves out to not be such a bad guy. The victim falls down, hits their head, has a seizure, won't wake up, somehow hits their head a second time, etc etc. Then the murderer swoops in and humanely puts them out of their misery. Yeah right!

She hit her head and she went into "some sort of seizure," according to Patten. He then told investigators he panicked and hit her in the neck with a shovel that he had with him

I so agree!! And he just "happened" to have a shovel with him in a borrowed vehicle. How convenient. Gag.

That is interesting. One would have thought with his confession that it was an open and shut case. I really thought that his dad had convinced him to "do the right thing", "man up", and tell what happened.

I wonder when this tape was recorded? Could there be a jealous woman out there? Did they do it together? Why would he confess with details (that match her injuries) if he did not do it? Was he just trying to "protect" the "woman that he loves"??

Investigators say 19-year-old Toni Fratto of West Wendover admitted to being involved in the killing in an audio recording from April 22nd.

According to police her involvement was revealed during a hearing in Patten's case earlier this week. During that hearing Patten's lawyers turned over the recordings in which Fratto allegedly admits to using a weapon in the killing and helping to dispose of evidence.

Ohlson said Fratto came to him and said she wanted to talk and told him about her involvement in Micaela's slaying. Ohlson said he doesn't know what prompted her to come forward, but noted that she was "stone cold as ice."

In the recording, Fratto — who is apparently Patten's fiancée — can be heard talking about details of the crime that were not public knowledge, investigators said.
 
there are interesting comments in the above link....especially from Mickie's best friend.

I think what she says is what happened. The fiance Toni was jealous because of a past relationship between her now boyfriend and Mickie and a possibilty that he still held a flame. She has convinced/nagged/"prove you dont love her" this guy to kill her.

I have seen this happen before with jealous girls.
 
Fratto struck and/or kicked Micaela while she was on the ground, hit her in the back with a shovel and then slashed her throat, the charges state.

She then drove to Tooele County and tried to burn several items of evidence...

Fratto "directly or indirectly counseled, encouraged, hired, commanded, induced or otherwise procured the said Kody Cree Patten to commit said murder," the charges state.

Micaela's mother, Celia Costanzo, was shocked Tuesday to hear the details about Fratto's alleged involvement. She was in the middle of designing her daughter's headstone when she learned of the new charges.
