I'm trying really hard not to take the "family, friends and people who really knew him" comment too personally. Tis true, I don't "know" Steven. However, I look for him every day in my travels. Every day. It's just habit for me now. And I figure, who knows, if I don't find Steven, maybe I'll come across another missing soul someone is looking for.

That said, just this morning on my way to work I saw a young man who had some Steven characteristics. Same coloring, same type of clothing, etc. But his hair was really long. And once again, I thought to myself, what if I do see Steven? Will I recognize him? How many ways might he have changed over these past several months? Does he have long hair now? A beard? A deep tan from being in the sun? Is he wearing the same type of clothes or has he changed his style along with his lifestyle?

I don't know. And I don't know for certain his own mother would recognize him.

This is a big city and there are a lot of buses. I hope they have an army for this search. I hope they have some clues as to where to look.

If there have been more recent possible sightings, why haven't they said so? Do they NOT want help? I'm here, they know that. And they know I'm ready and willing.

I don't get it. But I'm NOT giving up and no one can make me. SO THERE!

We wouldn't even try ;)

Your questions are what I asked about, a couple of months ago. We need a photoshopped image of Steven, showing how he'd look with long hair and a beard....and like you say, suntanned. Thinner, too. The "blue shirt" picture, if he's lost weight, might be the one to manipulate. But I have no talent in that direction.

I don't have that talent, either. But, not knowing what changes he may have undergone - if any - I'm not sure how it would be helpful.

I see homeless people every day. I often wonder if anyone would recognize them.

A year or so ago, there was a young girl - maybe 17 - who was panhandling at intersections on my side of town. I saw her nearly every day for a long time. She was very pretty - for a while. She seemed very fit and didn't appear to be homeless. After about 6 months, she looked WAY different. Dark tan, tattered clothes, a little shaky. I saw her one day with her "boyfriend" - who looked like a poster boy for the Aryan Nation, and shortly after that, she disappeared. Haven't seen her for quite a while and I worry about her still.

I can't see Steven falling prey to this sort of person, but you never know!

"The unemployed man reportedly told friends he was traveling to Henderson in a bid to find a job."

When reporters say reportedly, you know they are on the thinnest of ice.

I analyze this kind of reporting on Chandra Levy in my book. The worst offenders in all the reporting on Chandra were reporters (sometimes anonymous themselves) reporting based on unnamed "friends".

Mims needs to either identify the friends and when they were told this or get into another racket.

So true. But I really wonder how "new" this information is. Is it possible this is something they've known from the beginning and just didn't believe?

The way Mims throws it in there intermingled with quotes from father he implies he's getting this information around same time, maybe even father Rolf told him that friends told him, etc. Thus the reportedly.

But like I say, it's all implied. I'm pretty sure there's at least one quote in this thread from family saying they know of no reason for SK to have gone to Henderson.

The only conclusion to draw then is that "friends" have recently remembered en masse that they were told this by SK. We know that's a crock. In my opinion it's unacceptable journalism, and Mims is a junior leaguer out of his league even in the bush leagues.

The reportedly is the key word. It's trade talk for I don't know what I'm talking about but here goes.

Sorry - I cannot agree. This may very well have been info the family has had from the beginning, but didn't believe it.

Just because they didn't know, first hand, of any reason for Steven to be here, doesn't mean he didn't have a reason. He's 30. I didn't tell my folks everything I was doing when I was 30!

We are the internet people, but we are very caring people, and many people here, have put in many hours to help find Steven. There are many who read what is said here, and it sparks a idea for friends, family, and professionals. i know we could help, and many of us want to, but I am sure there are reasons they do not want our help. I also will be praying they get some answers.

Why publicize it? Why not just do it. If he doesn't' want them to find him and reads or gets wind of it, he may decide to just hide. I don't understand that.....at all. I'm guessing since there was no mention of the PI, he's not going to be involved in this search either. ???

Most of the friends have been heard from, the family has been heard from, and all said they knew of no connection to Henderson, were totally mystified why he parked his car there.

But you would entertain the premise that they all were lying all this time or that more than one "friend" has recently remembered that they knew why he went there after all.

Or a reporter wrote something he didn't understand hedged with reportedly.

Nice post Fairy...your a true trooper and we (WS's) thank you for your heartfelt efforts in finding Steven. Kudos to you lady.

One thing we know we weren't told is all what GW had to say about it. I think the family may have found out something about Steven they did not want to share with the public. Hence, the stop of publicity and now saying they will do this on their own. JMO

The article is pretty "inflated"---in my book.

I'm hoping the family reads WS, as I just wanted to note that some homeless folks hang out at the libraries. Especially during our very hot summers, and a library seems as if it would be of interest to SK. Hopefully this most recent search party will be checking the local libraries.

Plus, there are two churches in oldtown Henderson that serve meals to the homeless & needy. One is near the corner of Van Wagnen (sic) & Pacific. It serves a free pancake breakfast on Saturdays. And, the second church is near the corner of Pacific & Atlantic.

If the family really believes that SK may be living the life of a homeless person they may also want to check with the local labs that pay for blood platelets donations. I believe there are two in Las Vegas. I know there are privacy laws, but it wouldn't hurt to drop off a flyer.

So there is going to be a seasrch for Steven, and it will just include family and close friends, people that would recognize him. And I imagine (since there was a article in the Tribune) there will be press that tags along or is close by. I am curious to know, if any of his friends, like GW or friends that have been here on WS will be there?

I guess if the press goes along, we may find out who is involved with the search.

If any of my family is ever missing (I have learned alot here) I am going to use every resource possible to find my family member. Everyone here on WS has something to offer, and wants to help. For goodness sakes, 7 months, and people love and care for Steven! We have just been waiting to do something more! Well, we all will continue to support and hope for great news.

As I once mentioned, I had a sister in a homeless shelter 20 miles away from me, and could not find her. She did NOT want to be found, and she was not. She had her reasons, and her where abouts were known about by professionals, but it was about confidentiality.

Goodluck to the family and friends, and my prayers are with them.

The following are quotes from the article published by the Standard-Examiner yesterday.

"The teams consist of people who have the best chance of making positive identification, said Rolf Koecher, editor of the Davis County Clipper."

"The volunteers will ride Las Vegas public transit this afternoon and all day Saturday in hopes of finding his 30-year-old son, Koecher said."

"Steven Koecher had traveled to Henderson from his St. George home, but for what purpose remains unknown."

"Rolf Koecher said his son had indicated to friends that he planned to return home after traveling to the Henderson neighborhood where his vehicle was found abandoned, with Christmas presents he had earlier purchased for family members still in the car."

Well after reading and thinking about this search.....I think the family has made this decision from the heart and perhaps from tips they are receiving. I so wish they had more than 30 people.
A hundred people working every day of the week would be a
difficult search in a city that large.

Our local WSers have good information.....see Fairy1 and Sin City posts.

Wonder if buses still have those paper/plastic replaceable ads? How about
supplementing their search with a poster of Steven on some or all of the buses.

Good luck Koecher family.

:banghead:

Good gosh. And another one from KSL adds to the conflicting information:

Specifically went to Henderson
Steven went there for a job
For what purpose remains unknown.
Planned to return home.
GW didn't ask why he was there.
His family says he was looking for work in the Las Vegas area (KSL).

I think the friends should come forward and publicly state exactly what Steven told them.
