Well, laytonian, there is no doubt that my idea may be a LITTLE crazy but a 30 year old guy just disappearing in the middle of a 55+ neighborhood on a Sunday at noon where he is also caught on video is crazier. But, I think that is what has drawn a lot of us to this case. We are all just a little in disbelief that someone could disappear under these circumstances whether by force, by desire, or by accident. I should say, though, that there are many cases where criminals left "stupid" evidence. . .ID, phone number, address, etc. . .at the scene.

What I keep coming back to is that still, no one, me included, has been able to explain what Steven was doing there on that day. Excluding those who believe he lost his mind, the rest of us think that he was on that street for a reason, whether it was his first time there or his tenth time there. Meaning, somebody had to give him the information. And there are only so many ways to communicate to another person:

-text
-email
-cell phone
-regular phone
-face to face
-letter
-instant messenger
-pre-paid phone

Those are the major ways we communicate. "Letter" is probably not conceivable in this case. His own cell phone has been excluded. Thus, texting is out as well. "Face to face" could be a possibility but what are the chances that he just happened to run into someone who gave him directions there without having contact with that person by some other means in the first place.

So, we are down to: regular phone, email, instant messenger, or pre-paid phone. Pre-paid phone sounds risky to me and it would suggest that Steven was definitely doing something underhanded. I know drug dealers allegedly use pre-paid phones but would a criminal really tell Steven to get a pre-paid phone? Really? It doesn't sound realistic to me. A newbie carrying a pre-paid phone would just make a criminal more nervous right? What if the newbie gets cold feet? Turns the phone over to the cops?

So, we are left with regular phone, email, instant messenger. And that takes me back to my first post today: computer and regular phones. Regular phones: That's a tough one. He would be using them when he could which means they could be anywhere. So, for ease and convenience, the last choice is his computer. And what do you know. . .it just happens to be devoid of information. Wiped clean from what I hear. Sounds like someone who is doing something he shouldn't be. Amnesia victims don't erase the info on their computers. People who are leaving their life don't wipe their computers clean because when people disappear they want to make it look by accident. When you wipe your computer clean, that means there was pre-planning to disappearing involved. If I have *advertiser censored* on there or whatever, what would I care. . .my family is not going to see me again anyway. If I dislike them enough to vanish, why would I care what they think of what I have on my computer?

This is not rambling but I am sorry if it sounds like it is. Just trying to put the info out there. Maybe it will ring true with someone and they can run with it. But I am sticking to my idea that Steven was up to no good, whether by force or by choice.

The computer hard drive was NOT wiped clean.

Naegle told us in her 01-11-2010, 12:10 PM posting:
"Both the police and members of my family have searched his computer. We have quite a few computer engineers in the family, but no one has found anything suspicious on his laptop."

.......(snippage)......
So, for ease and convenience, the last choice is his computer. And what do you know. . .it just happens to be devoid of information. Wiped clean from what I hear.

I don't know where you all got the idea that the computer was wiped clean. That's a flat out lie. It wasn't wiped clean.

I'm writing un update now and also compiling the recipts. If you have questions. Post them now.

Thank you, Naegle.
We "all" didn't get the idea it was wiped clean.

Wow, the receipt information would be GREAT. Thank you.
I guess that tell us "no news".

Question for you Naegle, has the family gained access to Steven's email accounts? I realize passwords can be hard to guess but often the "secret question" used if you forget your password is family related and could be guessed by a relative.

I hadn't thought it was wiped clean. Ive been popping in and out infrequently the last few days and thought I could have missed something.

I think it would be BEST if we all just deleted the posts that refer to a "wiped" computer OR edit them to put a warning at the top "the computer hard drive was NOT wiped clean".

If they didnt find anything it leaves three scenarios as to how his computer fits in.

1. Wasnt used for anything related to his disappearance.
2. Was used but he knew how to wipe his info permanently.
3. He formatted the drive and reinstalled his OS. If he did this he was really very serious about hiding his data.

Naegle,
Have you been able to find out any more about Gregg Webb?

A million thanks go to Fairy for going out to IHOP and checking things out. Here’s what our family has decided to do.
The people at IHOP have a very particular man in mind when they’re talking to us. They also say that he comes in fairly regularly. For these reasons we are waiting on their signal to act. This area is a big area and even a thousand people couldn’t comb it top to bottom. On top of that, even if we could get a thousand volunteers, it’s not the safest place to be combing. If we did do an all out search it could scare this man we’re hoping is Steven away. We DO NOT want to do that. Who knows where he would surface again? Also, homeless people tend to band together when they smell trouble. They may know exactly where this man is and point us in the opposite direction to protect him. We have family very nearby who can act quickly if the man returns to IHOP. LE has been alerted about the situation. There was the rumor that the man had been asked not to sleep at IHOP anymore. We are contacting similar restaurants in the area and asking them to be on the look-out in case he starts showing up there. We are also trying to get video from restaurants in the area.
I know you all are just on edge to get him home safely because of the storm and his probable mental state and I’ll tell you we are too, but we have decided (after much debate) that this is the best way to proceed. As a favor to me, am asking you all not to criticize this decision. I want to stay and help you all, but this is one thing I wouldn’t be able to handle reading. That being said, your theories about why he might be there don’t upset me so please don’t feel like you have to hold those back.
Thank you all, again, for your help.

We do have access to his email and fb accounts. Again, maddeningly, all seems normal.
Where in the world did I leave off with GW? His story checks out, I think the conclusion to that was that Paul Doxey never called, but was present when Steth talked to Steven.

I don't think I would handle it any differently than you have stated above.

A family decision is the logical way to handle this, and I'd support it, too.
It'd be tough. I know it was tough.

The fact that a guy WAS sleeping at IHOP, tells me that man is not a "regular" homeless who knows the homeless code..ya know?

I think the Webb question was "Did he ever show up at the PEC meeting" -- because once we put the timeline up, it seemed like he should have been able to get there in time, from when he talked to Steven.

Thank you, Naegle. I think this course of action is perfect, under the circumstances.

As I've said, I can easily use alternate routes coming home from work each day that will take me through the specific area that's been discussed - and a bit wider but still the general area. It's still light out when I drive home, so I will be able to see! And obviously, he's not at IHOP ALL of the time.

Thank you for the update on GW. I'm afraid I was having darker thoughts on that front.

Laytonian this list is a mess! I'm sure it would be easier to read if you added it to your master time line. ALSO, Steven visited the Neffs on Wed Dec 9th not the 8th!

Jeez - he was all over the place! Thanks for this info Naegle. Should be very helpful to Laytonian's timeline masterpiece!

whew, some forward progress. My stomach is in knots so I'm sure your nerves are shot Naegle.

Fasteddy4~ let me stem from your ways of communication for a second...how about using those ways of communication, but speaking to a "go between". So what may seem like an innocent everyday phone call or text may not have been. Just adding some brainstorming ideas.

Oh, and Naegle, I'd like to add that I think your family's decision was an well thought out and hopefully will be well executed plan.

Also what does the Kmart receipt show purchased for $9.42? He bought 2 Christmas gifts for $9.42?

Couple more things before I crawl off into a corner to try to recover from the weekend.

-The trip to Mesquite seems to have gone futher west. There was a ping from Steven's AT&T cell phone on the Overton cell tower which, I understand, is near lake mead? Could someone become a wikipedia expert on how/when cell towers pass different cell phones??

-Travis Hansen (steven's boss) saw him Tuesday the 8th in St George.

-Does Jordan Zirkle (steven's roommate) have family in Vegas as he claims? He made lots of calls to Vegas to "family"

Were Steven and Jordan "friends"? Were there calls/texts showing they had some sort of friendship?
