Naegle answered a long list today.

I've posted them here: Jan 20, 2009

THE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT THE PASSPORT WERE:

The passport being missing: is that THE fact you were told not to reveal? Yes. I was hoping that if someone stole it from Steven they would use it and get caught. Since WS is so public I didn't want to inform "the bad guy" that we were watching for it. I welcome all your thoughts about it now. Does anyone know of a way to track passports without going through the government?

Was it current? Yes

Has it been used to leave/re-enter the US?
IDK I think if LE knew that it had been used they would would be all over that angle and they don't seem to be investigating in that direction

--------------------------------------
Here's my suggested reply Naegle on this issue. Any other thoughts?

In hindsight, I think the best way to handle this, would have been to alert the State Department RIGHT AWAY and have them REVOKE the passport. Or report it lost or stolen. That way, anyone attempting to use it to leave/enter the country would have been caught.

If the passport details were given to LE, they may have notified the State Department...but someone needs to check; the government (the State Department) is the agency that issues and revokes passports.

Instructions are here:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/lost/us/us_848.html#Reportloststln
Steven's parent(s) could call the number and explain the situation. I think the passport would be immediately revoked in such a case.

I don't understand the desire to avoid the government here.

Me neither. AND it should be very simple for LE to find out if he used his passport to travel internationally. With airport security being what it is (please don't laugh!), it would be highly unlikely that someone else would have used Steven's passport and ID to travel.

I know. It's scanned right into the computers, and even if someone was re-entering the country with it, it'd be caught.

Well, this does put a bit of a different spin on things. The family needs to pressure LE to determine whether Steven travelled internationally or not. If he's sunning on a beach somewhere in Brazil, I'm not going to be happy about visiting the Arizona Charlies RV park tomorrow.

And here we are again - with few answers on GW.

I would also like to know the family's feeling about the IHOP sightings. Do they feel this is a reliable lead? On a scale of 1 - 10?

You could always sun yourself by the pool at Arizona Charlie's...next to some old guy in a Hawaiian shirt, chewing on a cigar.

The IHOP thing is reliable enough, because Naegle posted (on the FB page, I think) that the family was going to Vegas this weekend and check it out. Probably other stuff, too. I'd probably have made my husband haul the fifth wheel down there, I'd be living at Arizona Charlie's, and I'd be walking the streets all day with flyers. And sunning myself at an RV park pool next to that guy with the cigar.

Laytonian - thank you so much for putting everything together today. At least we have a handle on everything and your timeline just gets better by the day!

Hi guys.

I wrote the most recent story that appeared on LasVegasNOW. About the Nevada Center for Missing Loved Ones -- I believe they coordinated the search with help from other LE agencies, but I could have the fact wrong. They work very close with LE and have done aerial/ATV searches using volunteers in the past. When I heard they were involved, I assumed they coordinated. But I'll check in the AM and get back.

I can also answer this question, "CONCRNED CTZN - Anthem "car patrol" left a message on Steven's cellphone, after the car was reported abandoned. Does anyone know how they got his cellphone number to leave that message?"

Naegel has it right. They saw the number on the flyer, called his boss, and the boss gave up the cell number.

I would do it for the greater good - but we have no sunshine - only rain!

I'm going to try to find out more about Donna. It's seems a bit odd to me that a woman would be travelling alone between Vegas and St. Louis considering the weather the midwest has been suffering of late.

I've not done a timeline for years; I used to be better at it. During the Yosemite Murders case, it went on for months. During the Bonnie Bakley (Robert Blake) investigation, my timeline somehow became a subject of a weekly radio segment in Sacramento. The DJs would call and interview me. I was the "Robert Blake murder lady". Ha. Interestingly, I had quite a lengthy correspondence with Christian Brando's girlfriend (Blake was trying to pin the murder on him)....and she sent me some recent family pictures of Marlon, Christian and herself. Then Bakley's sister emailed me, all PO'd and wanted to give me "private information" if I'd take down the comments from Brando's girlfriend. I refused. Unfortunately, all the Brando pictures were lost in a hard drive crash.

I believe that fliers from the window washing job were visible in the window of the car. Contact info for Travis(or Steven) was on the flyer and when the car patrol saw that they called him... I believe that's how it happened.

Wow...this really gets me. I think this demonstrates that someone told him to park there or he chose to park for some reason that is related to where he was going around the corner, because why would he leave that information visible if he was just walking away. If he was trying to get "lost" or do something to himself and that is why he chose that spot, I highly doubt he would take the time to park there and then leave the information in wide view. He had no idea how long it would take for someone to realize the car had been left there.

Gee, what kind of a PUTZ is that boss?
He gets a report that his employee's car has been abandoned, and doesn't even think to call someone who knows Steven...or call Steven himself to see what's going on?
Why wouldn't he do that?

It's these kinds of details that add more to the timeline, every day.

Thanks for doing that story!
One small thing (you've probably already fixed it); you have two maps in your story, and the second one (to the Anthem neighborhood) links to the Ruby Valley map. There's a link on our timeline that has the exact spot the car was found in, mapped out....if you want to use that same URL.
I hope your story gets lots of readership. I think it's quite compelling.

I also want to add - grudgingly - that if the family and LE believe further ground searches are warranted, it would be extremely worthwhile to contact Texas Equusearch. They are truly amazing and the weather conditions (current rain notwithstanding) would not be a restriction here. The request for their assistance must be made by the family or investigating agency and here is their website:

You're a celebrity!!! We're very fortunate to have you here. Thank you.

GW...another thing that gets me. The question of him making the meeting was asked on Facebook where the clerk posted the original time line of events that he was involved in. Even he (the clerk) did not answer that simple question from others who posted that same question and are not on here. I feel like if the answer was a resounding yes, we would know that. There is a reason why no one has an answer to that.

In regards to GW, maybe Naegle could get some more events for the time line from him. I am assuming that GW and Steven performed their church duties together at least bi-weekly. Or maybe if Steven had started canceling on him, that would be important too, especially if he gave reasons, like "I am in Vegas" or "I am going to Vegas". If GW is not involved...or a POI, then he should be a resource, ONE would think.

Ugh... I hate it when mistakes like that happen. I'll get them fixed.

It's a very interesting case. I remember when the press release hit my inbox. I live about 2 miles from where his car was found and thought, "Who disappears in Anthem?"

Thank you and welcome! Can you give us any direction on how to move this case forward in LV?

I just don't know. It's hard to say. I'll be following the story for my outlet, but as far as getting more play? Do more searches, canvass neighborhoods, offer a reward. And alert the media every step you make. Who knows when an outlet will bite?

No, I'm not. It's just that I was doing some things back in 1999, that got noticed because no one else was doing it. Now, it's common.

Since we have a real, live reporter here - I also want to mention that I've seen a number of reports and such with conflicting information. I've seen Steven is 5'8", 5'10" and the poster I have now from Project Jason says 5'11". I've also seen reports saying he went missing 12/13, 12/14 and 12/15. There are more, but you get the gist.

I sure would love to see these details nailed down.

I couldn't agree more! I think GW's silence is deafening. He has to surely know about this website by now if he is truely trying to help find his "friend". If you google "Steven Koecher" Greg Webb now shows up because of all the posting about him on this very website. If my friend is missing and people are accusing me or implying that I'm involved and I had nothing to do with it 1. I'm mad as hell! and 2. I'm telling them the answers to their questions that they keep asking about me to help find my friend and clear my name. So here I am calling you out Greg Webb. Are you gonna man up and answer our questions to help us find your "friend". Hell, with friends like you, who needs enemies. If you have nothing to hide and I hope you don't. Prove it!

One WOULD think, of course.

Don't forget that these are three of the four (male) leaders of the ward, and could invoke clergy-penitent privilege. The LDS do have an exemption now, if someone confesses child sexual abuse to their Bishop, but other communications can be as sacrosanct as those in a formal Catholic confessional. There's also self-sufficiency and possible protection of others.

Naegle is hundreds of miles away, and wouldn't be in a position to investigate people, even if she were closer.

But I don't see anything wrong with another member of the Priesthood, especially one related to Steven, talking to those men and at least clearing the air.
